If I gave you $10,000 which you had to put in a safe for 10 years before using it, would you want me to put 10,000 one-dollar bills OR $10,000 in gold bullion (at its current price) in your safe?

Put the 10000 one-dollar bills in my safe.  They will have more buying power in 10 years.

Diversify- Put 5000 one-dollar bills and $5000 in gold bullion in my safe.

Since you are putting 10 year handcuffs on me, and limiting the options, the only choice would be gold bullion.

Gold will in all likelihood be lower in 10 years than it is today. I'll take the cash and gladly lose to low-medium inflation. At least I won't be stuck in a non-performing asset.

Buy gold in 70s/80s/90s -- don't see profit until mid-late 00s. Rinse repeat.

And whoever voted for modern proof bullion coins... grab your ankles.
