Look back/ahead to the Top 100 College Basketball recruits in the SEC

A little update on Arlando Cook, just read an article, said he'd make his decision in the Spring, guess that removes him from possible Fall signees.  He said he will take all 5 official visits.  Mentioned us as one of the schools recruiting him the hardest.

Monk could really help the optimism and direction of this Arkansas recruiting class if he would verbal sooner than later. 

Usually a very high percentage of your top 100 ranked players sign in the early signing period.  So I think if we are to sign 2 or 3 top 100 players then I think we have  a much higher chance of getting them to sign in November.  I will be surprised if Monk waits unless he is going out of state..  I know what he says but if he is coming to Arkansas then he will sign early.  If he wants out of the state then I think he will sign late just to keep the Boo Birds away at his HS games.

None I see fall signing class of Smith, Bailey or Parrish. None of them are rank in top 100. We have time getting top 100 players for some reason.

Cheick Diallo, a one-time Kentucky basketball target who signed to play at Kansas, is still awaiting to see if he is going to be eligible for the Jayhawks for 2015-16.

6-foot-9 McDonald's All-American, ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the Class of 2015 by Rivals, has not been cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center. And Kansas coach Bill Self said this week he is not sure when Diallo can anticipate a ruling.

"I don't anticipate this being cleared up in the near future," Self said.

According to The Star, "The eligibility questions appear to focus Diallo's time at Our Savior New American School, a private high school in Centereach, N.Y., a town of 31,000 on Long Island. Diallo, a native of Mali, attended the school after coming to the United States to pursue a college basketball career."

NEW YORK – Mustapha Heron has a top five, but the 6-foot-5 wing out of Sacred Heart (CT) High School admits that his list of St. John's, Auburn, Mississippi State, Marquette and Alabama could still change.

Heron's father, Bryan, was quoted in the Republican-American newspaper earlier this week as saying that Kentucky, Duke and North Carolina are also recruiting his son.

"My options are staying open, but those are the five I'm most comfortable with and the places I feel like I can go and have a huge impact right away," Heron told SNY.tv Friday afternoon at practice for Saturday night's Big Strick Classic at Gauchos Gym in the Bronx.

1. Nerlens Noel UK ... Noel was setting shot blocking records when he suffered a late-season ACL injury dodging an ESPN cameraman in one of those swivel chairs.  He has been seen taking terminal ill children to the Kentucky Derby at least twice. After missing '13-14 he was an NBA All-Rookie selection in '15-16.

13. Alex Poythress UK ... Medical redshirt Junior returns to Kentucky.  Early season ACL ended UK's true 10-man platoon.  Poythress received his degree in three years and may leave with a Masters.  '15-16 is his chance as UK recruited no PFs and that is his best college position.  Would need to play SF at the next level.

15. Archie Goodwin UK ... Sylvan Hills SG played one unmemorable season as a UK teammate of Noel, Poythress, and Cauley-Stein. 1st round pick was traded twice on draft day and landed with Phoenix. "Entering the 2015-16 season, the Suns only have two proven starters in the back court - Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight. Behind them are Ronnie Price, Sonny Weems, rookie Devin Booker and Goodwin." Phoenix traded yet another former guard, Harrison.

19. Danuel House  Houston -> A&M ... Averaged 15 ppg for A&M and still has three to play two. Aggies missed him on their international summer tour due to a knee injury.

28. Devonta Pollard  Bama -> Juco -> Houston  Former Mr. Mississippi Basketball, scored 4 ppg as a Tide freshman.  His mom involved Devonta in a bizarre child kidnapping and ransom around the time that Devonta would have been declaring for the NBA draft after being a one-n-done according to plan. His mother went to prison and Pollard is getting another chance with Houston.

40. Willie Cauley  UK  In '14-15, he became the first player to make the Consensus five member 1st All-American Team and average less than 10 ppg.  Joins Demarcus Cousins, Rajon Rondo, et al. with the Kings.  Lived with NFL Hall of Famer Will Shields in Olathe during his high school athletic days as a multi-sport star.  Fun fact: His German-American grandparents raised him in rural Kansas, just like Adolph Rupp's did.

8. Scotty Hopson  Vols ... A Kentucky high school player that Coach Pearl was able to lure to Knoxville, Hopson played 7 minutes in the NBA for the '14 Cavs.

16. Mike Rosario  Rutgers -> Florida  After playing for Bob Hurley at St. Anthony's, Rosario became the first of Coach Donovan's Rutgers to Florida pipeline.  He plays for the Puerto Rican Leones de Ponce (Ponce Lions).

33. Darius Miller  UK  Was a younger teammate of Chris Lofton at Mason County and Bruce Pearl and Billy Gillispie waged war to get his services.  Miller landed at UK and Gillispie's dog house.  Miller became a glue guy for Calipari and staying for 4 years, got an NCAA championship ring.  After a run with the Pelicans as then 18-year-old Anthony Davis' "big brother", he now plays in Germany.

41. Eloy Vargas  Florida -> Juco -> UK  Only player to play for both Donovan and Calipari, Vargas was the reserve big man on two Final Four teams at UK.  Plays in the Dominican Republic.

10. Nick Calathes UF ... All-SEC and scored 33 points against UK.  Ran off Jai Lucas who would not compete for lead guard spot.  After two seasons he entered the draft, was a 2nd round pick, and landed in Greece.  In '13 he got on with the Grizzlies.

19. Jai Lucas UF -> Tejas ... Florida won the battle over UK for John Lucas II's son... After one season playing ... Transferred to Longhorns after one season ... After time in D-League he was a special assistant to Rick Barnes and stayed on with Shaka Smart.

De'Aaron Fox helps UK fan meet Coach Cal

Last night he was in Houston, visiting De'Aaron Fox, who may just be the best lead guard in a class overloaded with talented floor generals. Cal's visit is a story in and of itself, but what happened during the visit is much more interesting that the visit itself.

You see, Fox invited a classmate of his to the visit, a student named Seth Barnett. Barnett is a diehard Kentucky fan, his family relocating to Texas when Seth's dad got a job there, according to Kentucky Sports Radio:

Once The Heralded Scoring Guard, Tallahasee's JT Escobar To Adjust At Ole Miss

Escobar authored a 62-point explosion during a scrimmage against Oak Hill.

Escobar sustained the smoking-hot hand for two 20-minute halves at Oak Hill, burying 21-for-25 during one sequence.

The basket looked wider than the Biscayne Bay for Escobar, who averaged 30.2 PPG during an 815-point senior year at FAMU.

He'll also honor Ole Miss' need for a depth at the point guard position. Escobar readied himself for the role during his post-grad season at Elev8, where he hunted for his shot less and dished more.

At Elev8 Prep (FL), Escobar focused more on orchestrating the offense. He deferred more than ever on a squad that featured 6-foot-5 man-child wing Kobie Eubanks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).

While acclimatizing to Ole Miss, Escobar will once again be a role player.
