Why did the "Felix is Staying" thread get merged with "DMAC ineligible?" thread?

The problem with that being that 2nd round picks are not guaranteed deals;  you are only entitled to your signing bonus.   You don't get the promise of a roster spot that accompanies 1st round status, contractually.   Likewise, that money he could be 'out' can be hedged against, with insurance.

Look at it this way; NFL RBs are 'two contract' players.   The typical 2nd round deal is 3-4 years, 1st round deal 5-7 years.    He can take a 5 million dollar insurance policy out, and if he gets hurt and never plays again, it would be very comparable to a guy who signs one contract, and either gets hurt or can't play anymore at the end of the deal--  so that's a wash.

Say he gets hurt, but still goes to the NFL as a minimum salary guy thereafter; he gets the value of the insurance policy for injury, plus the NFL minimum salary, presuming he lands a roster spot.  Another wash.

Say he returns, doesn't get hurt, but doesn't improve his draft status, or worsens it slightly;  he is out a single year's non-guaranteed pay, at worst, and a partial year's pay at best.

He returns, doesn't get hurt, and improves his draft status slightly--- he makes a financial windfall.

If he is slated to go 40th or lower by the advisory committee, I don't see any reason why he would want to go.

I thought the policy would only pay if he were prevented from playing professionally.
signature removed by Hogville staff. (but Erie's quote revived because I missed it)

In an era where there are over $70 trillion in future obligations, beyond the debt,   taking up practices in budgeting that are tantamount to saying 'And then in 2040, a magic dragon will sh*tpoopy $100 trillion and fix our problems'  simply isn't wise. --ErieHog

I thought the policy would only pay if he were prevented from playing professionally.

Most policies also have partial rehabilitation provisions; for example, if you get hurt in the bowl game, and will be healthy for the next season, but not for the draft combine, or if you slip in value because of injury it compensates you based upon your agreed to value at the time of the insuring.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Petrino prefers his backs to be a little bigger and pound it with the run. Felix I'd assume would be used more on recieving out of the back field.  BP likes to pound it when he runs with the big guys like Micheal Bush, Brandon Jacobs style.

Thanks for the scripture, I needed that.

If he goes this year he could be foregoing future income.  If he comes back he could be worth twice as much next year plus have a college degree.  Conversely he could have a career ending injury this year if he comes back.  however, if he takes out an insurance policy for a million and gets his college degree then even if he blows a knee he will still have a college degree and a million dollars.  I could have a real comfortable life with a million.

Maybe he believes what Jesus said:  "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt. 6:19-21)

Can anyone please confirm?  I'm away from radio but i'm getting multiple texts saying Felix did interview and said he is staying.  However, this AM on radio they said he's declared.  ANYONE HELP?!?!?!

no you are right, Felix has declared for the draft. He is projected as the 31st pick in the 1st round to the Dallas Cowboys. I am not BS'ing you and heard JJ talking about him today. Very excited, of course cannot discuss it openly at this point. Hopefully Felix will be a Cowpoke!!!
