SEC players from 2015-16 who would be in consideration for making the school's all-time team spanning the last 25 years:

Tyler Ulis, UK and Danuel House, A&M

Ulis vs. House in Aggies' 82-77 overtime loss to Kentucky in the SEC tournament title game.

QuoteTwo of the SEC's top players were at their best in the league title game, as UK's Tyler Ulis scored a career-high 30 points, and A&M's Danuel House led all scorers with 32 points.

"The fight from both teams was outstanding," A&M senior Alex Caruso said. "That's why we finished co-champions of the SEC, and there were two really good teams battling it out."

The No. 16 Wildcats led 64-60 with about four minutes left when Murray missed a 3-point attempt from the right corner. Teammate Isaiah Briscoe snagged the rebound on the other side of the basket, and fired the ball right back to Murray, who smoothly sank his second attempt from the same spot.

Down seven at that point, the No. 17 Aggies clawed back and tied the game at 71 on House's off-balance runner in the lane with 19 seconds left. Ulis started the scoring in overtime with a 3-pointer, and House again tied the game at 75 with a 3-pointer.

Aggies were trying to win their first league tournament since 1987, a little more than a week after earning at least a share of a regular-season title for the first time since 1986. Both those triumphs took place in the long-gone Southwest Conference.

Kentucky, in snapping an eight-game A&M winning streak, also earned its league-record 30th SEC tournament title.

SEC players from 2015-16 who would be in consideration for making the school's all-time team spanning the last 25 years:

Stefan Moody, Ole Miss

Senior Stefan Moody has been named the 2016 C Spire Howell Trophy winner, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame announced Monday. It is the second-straight year Moody has received the honor.

QuoteThe Howell Trophy, named for the legendary Bailey Howell, goes to the most outstanding men's collegiate basketball player in Mississippi. Moody, a native of Kissimmee, Florida, joins Jarvis Varnado as the only two players in the award's history to win the trophy back-to-back years.

The is the four-straight year a Rebel has been named the state's top player after Jarvis Summers took home the award in 2014 and Marshall Henderson won the honor in 2013. Moody edged Mississippi State's Gavin Ware and Quindary Weatherspoon to receive the honor.

The fifth-fastest player in reach 1,000 career points in Ole Miss history, Moody leads the SEC, and ranks ninth nationally, in scoring at 23.1 point per game. He became only the fifth player in Ole Miss history and the 26th player in SEC history to top 700 points in a season. His 43-point performance against MSU on Senior Night is tied for the highest single-game total in the SEC this year, the 11th highest in nation and the 13th highest in school history. It also marked the most points scored by a Rebel since Gerald Glass dropped 53 on LSU in 1989 and was the most in a league game since Kentucky's Jodie Meeks scored 45 against Arkansas in 2009...

A&M senior guard and co-leading scorer Danuel House felt slighted by the reaction to the Aggies receiving the higher seed.

Quote"[We felt] not respected," House said, according to TexAgs.com. "We played four Big 12 games early and we won all of them."

However, Texas A&M coach Billy Kennedy took a diplomatic approach.

"We're happy with where we were seeded," Kennedy said.

Kentucky and Texas A&M will have a chance to earn respect. Aggies begin Friday against No. 14 Green Bay.

SEC players from 2015-16 who would be in consideration for making the school's all-time team spanning the last 25 years:

Kevin Punter, Tennessee

WJHL-TV: League Coaches Name Vols Kevin Punter Jr. To All-SEC Team

QuoteSoutheastern Conference men's basketball coaches' postseason awards were announced Tuesday, and Tennessee point guard Kevin Punter Jr. was a second team All-SEC selection.

Punter made his final appearance of the season Feb. 18 at Kentucky. A stress fracture in his right foot ended his collegiate career after he averaged 22.2 points per game through 26 contests during the 2015-16 season.

In addition to shifting from shooting guard to point guard this season, Punter also underwent a complete mechanical overhaul of his jump shot this past summer. The results were extraordinary.

The senior started all 26 games in which he appeared and finished as the second-leading scorer in the SEC. He scored 20 or more points 18 times and posted three 30-point games.

His .460 field-goal percentage was the second-best among all guards in the SEC this season, and he also shot .369 from 3-point range and .817 from the free-throw line.

In five games against opponents ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, Punter was at his best, averaging 25.6 points per game. His top scoring performance of the year was a career-high 36 points in Tennessee's win over 24th-ranked South Carolina on Jan. 23.

The Bronx, New York, native ranked second on the team in assists (3.5 apg) and steals (1.4 spg) while playing 34.1 minutes per game.

Punter did not travel with the Vols to Nashville for this week's SEC Tournament because he is undergoing surgery on his right foot in his hometown of New York City Tuesday.

This marks the 11th consecutive season in which Tennessee has produced a first- or second-team All-SEC honoree.

Almost goes with saying, here is one more SEC player from 2015-16 who would be in consideration for making the school's all-time team spanning the last 25 years:

A Salute to Alex Caruso: one of the most decorated players in A&M history

QuoteA largely unheralded wing for A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, Caruso wasn't even the most coveted prospect in A&M's signing class. That distinction went to another hometown hero: Bryan's J-Mychal Reese. Reese was ranked by many as the No. 1 high school point guard in the country and a top-100 player nationally.

Most recruiting gurus considered Reese to be a lynchpin recruit who would play the Aggies into several NCAA Tournaments. Caruso, meanwhile, was looked at as more of a feel-good story: a solid player who was staying home to play for the school where his father, Mike, was a longtime associate athletic director.

Those so-called experts couldn't have been more wrong.

Reese transferred from A&M after playing in 39 games. Caruso, meanwhile, worked his way into the starting lineup as a freshman and never looked back. After starting 17 contests as a rookie, Caruso has missed just one start since his sophomore season.

"It's interesting how it has worked out like that," said Caruso, now the A&M record holder in steals and assists. "It's special, and it's a testament to how hard I have worked, and how hard the guys around me have worked in both high school and college."

Caruso spent much of his first three years at A&M playing point guard for the Aggies, but the arrival of graduate transfer Anthony Collins took some pressure off of Caruso to be the team's quarterback.

Caruso is no longer A&M's starting point guard, but he may be the team's most important player. He has been spectacular in the last four contests--all wins--by dishing out 27 assists while having just three turnovers. When the Aggies lost five games between Jan. 27 and Feb. 13, Caruso had 17 turnovers and 23 assists.

QuoteThe last Kentucky player to average more minutes than Ulis in a season was Col. Tom Parker. He averaged 37.9 minutes in 1971-72.

Dan Issel averaged 37.3 minutes in 1969-70 and 37.9 minutes in 1968-69.

Wade Baldwin IV, Damian Jones

Vanderbilt's Damian Jones, Wade Baldwin and Luke Kornet joined Tennessee's Kevin Punter among the All-SEC award recipients

QuoteJones, a junior center, was named to the All-SEC first team for a second straight year. Baldwin, a sophomore point guard, was tabbed an All-SEC second-teamer. Kornet, a junior forward, made the all-defensive team.

Vanderbilt's trio led the Commodores to a late-season run, winning 11 of their last 15 SEC games. Jones averaged 14.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while shooting 59.4 percent from the field, second-best in the league. Baldwin led Vanderbilt in scoring (14.3 ppg) and ranked third in the SEC in assists (5.1). Kornet led the conference in blocks per game (2.96) and ranked seventh nationally.

Former #Auburn star Wes Flanigan lands first head coaching job: http://ow.ly/109kS6

Quote"As someone who was born and raised in Little Rock, this is a dream come true," Flanigan said, according to a news release. "I want to thank Chasse Conque and Chancellor Joel Anderson for this opportunity. I also want to thank my family for their love and support. But none of this happens without the student-athletes on our team. We asked each of them to sacrifice, and they bought in, worked hard, were unselfish, and through that we have established a culture. The next step for us is determining how far we can go as a team. For all the success we had last season, together we all can help Little Rock take the next step."

Flanigan, a Little Rock native, previously served as an assistant at Mississippi State, Nebraska, UAB and at UALR from 2004-2008.

During his playing career Flanigan averaged 10.1 points and 4.8 assists as an Auburn point guard from 1994 to 1997. He was named to the All-SEC Team as a junior and his 573 assists rank second all-time in program history. Prior to his senior season Flanigan had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor on his left arm.

"I think Little Rock has gotten a gem," said Coastal Carolina head coach Cliff Ellis, Flanigan's head coach at Auburn. "This guy knows the game and understands the game. It's been bred into him by his family. He understands the state of Arkansas and is constantly studying the game. He's got it all – he understands the game, is a great recruiter and understands all the parts of the job that come with it."

The Trojans (30-5) won their first outright Sun Belt Championship this season.

No future Kentucky Wildcat has ever been crowned the McDonald's slam dunk champion, in an annual contest that dates back to 1984.

Thirty years ago, Rex Chapman almost took home the honor.

QuoteChapman earned a perfect score for what would come to be known as "The Flip" — a dunk in which he flipped the ball over his head, caught it in the air and finished with a reverse jam.

"Unbelievable!" exclaimed Dick Vitale on that year's broadcast. "Scintillating, sizzling, and they're going to love him in Kentucky."

Unfortunately for Chapman, a botched dunk attempt earlier in the the contest prevented him from achieving the highest total score. The winner that year was Chris Brooks...

QuoteHouston: "When I think of playing Kentucky, I tend to think of the four-point play ... more than any other game."

Two weeks before the 61-point blowout, Tennessee beat Kentucky 78-77 thanks to a four-point trip down court in the final seconds (a put-back of a missed free throw figured prominently).

Kentucky exacted plenty of payback in the SEC Tournament. The Cats led 41-17 at halftime, before really putting it on Tennessee (60-23 in the second half).

Of that humiliation, Houston said, "I try to find a silver lining in everything."

Here's what he came up with: Had he played well, perhaps he would have been drafted earlier than by the Detroit Pistons with the 11th pick in the 1993 NBA Draft.

"I ended up meeting my wife (Tamara), who was from Detroit," Houston said. "So I always try to find a silver lining."

Pitino had UK foul Allan to prevent a 3-point shot to tie the game. Houston made the first and missed the second.  Allen was fouled on a rebound put back and one.

Great to hear that Kim English was bumped up by Tulsa's Frank Haith. Now a full-time assistant on the road. Long way from Notre Dame Prep!
