I'm sure this has been discussed, but could someone catch me up on this story?  Horrible defense and we have a 4 star caliber current Alabama DT commit down the street.  How/why were we late to the party on Byers?

I guess the last Byers thread rolled off the front page.

Byers has been considered an academic long-shot (might be kind) for quite a while.

UA cannot offer in-state players and later not honor the offer while maintaining good in-state PR. The SEC does not allow for an LOI to be signed but not used in the class (ie, oversigning). So, if you offer an in-stater and are politically forced to honor the commit then the player better be academically viable at the time of the offer. Byers has been a risk since day one.

Doesn't dismiss his talent. Doesn't mean that something miraculous might happen.

Remember, too: have a huge jump on test scores or a big boost in GPA (all of a sudden) tends to get flagged by the NCAA.
I am a Hog fan. I was long before my name was etched, twice, on the sidewalks on the Hill. I will be long after Sam Pittman and Eric Mussleman are coaches, and Hunter Yuracheck is AD. I am a Hog fan when we win, when we lose and when we don't play. I love hearing the UA band play the National Anthem on game day, but I sing along to the Alma Mater.
