2 things.  Again, I want to reiterate that I'm a John Pelphrey supporter and I still believe he deserves 2 more years after this one to get things together.

I think most reasonable fans agree with this.

The SEC is so bad that they aren't close to any major conference. The Big 12 is down this year, but they are noticeably better than the SEC.

Hey, don't get mad at me for correcting your baseless statement. You're the guy who doesn't know the conference rankings. Just keeping it real.

I used to argue with HA about how Pel ran the basketball team.  I've since learned to like and respect him.  In fact, I'd go as far to say that HA is well connected or extremely perceptive. - Porkatarian, 11/7/12

Broyles thought he couldn't hire a white coach at the time after firing Nolan because UA was trying to avoid a racial discrimination lawsuit. Heath was the perfect fit (and hot after Kent State went to the Sweet 16 that year).

No one is mad, but out of the 6 major conferences, the SEC is 6th. By your theory, the Atlantic 10 is almost as good as the SEC. Just keeping it real as well.

Are you trying to say it was a top tier basketball job 10 years ago and before?

If so, I diisagree.

They had a great run in the 70's under Bartow with Finch playing.

They had a great run in the 80's with Kirk with Keith Lee, Andre Turner and so on playing.

Finch had some great teams talent wise, impeded by coaching from getting there, Penny comes to mind.

They were on the scene before Arkansas was under Sutton, a tad bit less consistant and while close, never won an NC. Memphis basketball existed before Cal and the whole nation knew of the talent in Memphis as well.

The only thing Memphis has ever lacked was a strong conference affiliation and a limited but loyal fan base.

And, I hate the Tigers, but lets give them some credit for their basketball tradition.
