Actually Smith leads off for UVA, and he grounds out for out 1

GatorHog

GatorHog

McCarthy is 0-3 with a strikeout tonight, hitting .189

GatorHog

Woodruff, pinch-running for Coman, is gunned down trying to take 2B, 2 down

GatorHog

GatorHog

Doherty Ks to end the inning.

UVA: 4
Vandy: 2

Nathan Kirby on to pitch for the Cavs - He'll face the top of the order for Vandy:

1. Reynolds (0-2, run, walk)
2. Wiseman (2-3, run)
3. Swanson (0-3, RBI)

GatorHog

Kirby (2.61) hasn't thrown much in the post-season and got roughed up last time.  Looking for his first career save.

GatorHog

Kirby Ks Reynolds on a nasty slider, 1 down

GatorHog

Kirby's full-count delivery to Wiseman is way off, 1 on for Swanson

GatorHog

GatorHog

Wow, Costello just called Swanson out on a check swing for out number two

GatorHog

Imagine that....Costello blowing a call....

Dr. Starcs

If Virginia didnt take 45 seconds between pitches, their catcher wouldn't be cramping up.

Truth
"He hits from both sides of the plate.  He's amphibious."

GatorHog

Wiel swings and misses on a slider in the dirt, catcher throws down to first for out 3.  Vandy is down to three outs.

UVA: 4
Vandy: 2

Due up for the Cavs in the top of the 9th:

9. Clement (0-3)
1. Haseley (2-2, 2 runs, 2 walks)
2. Pinero (1-2)

The long Grey line will never fail our country.

GatorHog

GatorHog

Haseley and Pinero both ground out to Swanson - inning over.

THIS IS IT:

Virginia: 4
Vandy: 2

Last hope for Vandy:

5. Toffey (0-3)
6. Kendall (0-3)
7. Murfee (1-3)

GatorHog

Gonna take a miracle, Kirby's slider is working

Iwastherein1969

the Dores' need Cox and Eibner to walk through the door, warmed up and ready to go...somehow, I get the feeling those two aren't going to show up.....hate it for Vandy

don't see it happening, Vandy hasn't gotten a hit that I can remember...they had one base runner and that's about it...oh well, UVA is the home of Robert E. Lee so the only hope of Vandy is that politicians get involved and take the game away from the Hoos
The long Grey line will never fail our country.

Groundball to Clement at 2B, over to first for out number two

Tying run comes to the plate - it will be a pinch hitter, Kyle Smith, batting for Delay

GatorHog

Smith has 1 hit on the year, .067, but he's big.

Maddhog

GatorHog

meeting on the mound for the Cavs, count is 1-0 to Smith

Dr. Starcs

These uva coaches and their style of play make it really difficult for me to cheer for, despite me wanting them to finish the dores.

Can't wait to see my hogs celebrate at Omaha like this!

Dr. Starcs

I'd give quiet a bit to see the hogs do this one day.

3:36 official time.

Taking 45 seconds to call a pitch is pretty annoying and bush league in my opinion, but I don't think it had much of an impact on the game. They certainly outplayed us the last two games and had better plate discipline. They also made some great plays and had timely hits with runners in scoring position. Vandy didn't.

UVA got hot and made a remarkable run. Nobody saw that coming. However, they were not the best team by any means. It is one of the things that makes college sports great, but Vandy is much better than UVA. For 60+ games Virginia had mediocre, at best, hitting. They had average fielding, and pretty solid pitching. Their bats all of a sudden got hot, and they won this thing with their best pitcher only starting 1 game in the post season. O'Conner is a heck of a coach to pull this one off.
