What do you know about Daniel Sprinkle from White Hall?  We are recruiting him in football and just from the interviews he wants to play baseball and football in college.

Participated in the PG National Showcase last month.  Topped out at 90, but because of his size and athleticism, scouts see him throwing harder in the future.  He is now the #3 player in-state and top 150 overall according to PG.  Hopefully he earns a football scholarship because it will save DVH from having to give him any baseball money.

I know DVH would love to use football money instead.  We haven't had many two sport players lately and I know Petrino didn't like football players playing other sports.  Idk how Bielema feels about it. It sounds like Sprinkle could get a pro baseball contract.

RD had a tidbit about him today.  Hogs want to discuss the football/baseball option.

http://www.wholehogsports.com/news/2014/jul/03/thursda/

White Hall defensive end-tight end Daniel Sprinkle said Arkansas wants him to come back for the Hogs' July 24 camp. It appears Arkansas wants to discuss him and baseball.

So who are the big commits and targets we're focusing on?  Any Bonfield/Hentges/McKinney type talent?

Jacob Schlesener @JacobSchlesener     ·   6h

Blessed and honored to be getting to play in Long Beach this summer at the @ACBaseballGames

I'm not sure what team he will be playing on, but playing in the ACG typically means he is a top 200ish type player in his class.  The Hogs will have six participants of the 2013 ACG on campus in the fall in McKinney, Bonfield, Patten, Wiggins, Fant, and Pate.  I assume he will be playing on the White Sox team as that is what kids out of the Midwest typically play on.

I really don't know until they commit in all honesty.  It is much harder to follow baseball recruiting than basketball or football recruiting because it isn't covered nearly as much.

The 2016 class is off to a very good start with Williams and McFarland and we seem to be in position with a couple of top 100 prospects in states we recruit very well.  The 2015 class doesn't look strong from a PG ranking perspective, but the in-state group is deep and a lot of them don't participate on the showcase circuit.

Yet he is still a top 100 player with his size.  He is probably bigger now and I think will participate in a PG Showcase in August, but his hit tool is what makes him a top 100 player.

Congratulations to one of my best buds @Kacey_M0121 committing to play ball at the U of A! #WPS

The Hogs picked up their 13th commitment for the class of 2015 about a month ago in Rogers Heritage LHP Kacey Murphy.  I don't really know much about him except he is teammates with Ty Harris who was the 1st commitment in the 2015 class.  Murphy is the 4th LHP to commit in this class as that is a huge need for the Hogs and is the 8th in-state commitment which might make this the deepest in-state class in a long time.

paul boyd @nwapaulb     ·   Jun 18

Ty Harris of Rogers Heritage threw a scoreless inning today for the Arkansas Xpress 17s.He hit 92 and struck out 2.

This is very promising to see considering Harris had TJ surgery less than a year ago and has added 5 MPH from last summer.  Hitting 92 as a LHP even just in 1 IP is very promising.

The Hogs have picked up their 14th commitment of the 2015 class in Silo, OK OF Andrew Bolin.  Silo is a very small town in near the Texas border, but it appears to have some good baseball history and I believe they played for the state title in class 2A this past season.  Don't know much about him.

Two commitments to report:

Kevin Kopps is the 15th known commitment of the 2015 class.  He is a RHP out of Texas, but has only hit 85 this summer at a PG event.  He might be better suited to play a position, but his main position on PG was as a RHP.

Prep Baseball Report @prepbaseball     ·   14h

WI: *BREAKING* No. 3 2016 C Ben Rortvedt @rortvedt22 commits to Arkansas. @RazorbackBSB

Ben Rortvedt becomes the 3rd commitment of what is looking like a strong 2016 class.  He is a strong defensive catcher who is also a LHH with some promise.  He has a pop time of 1.86 and a top velo of 82 MPH from behind the plate.  Looks to be an excellent pickup and is the #16 overall player in the class of 2016 on Prep Baseball Report which covers just about all of the Midwest states and Florida so he is an excellent pickup.

Another potential 2016 pickup out of Wisconsin is LHP Jack Eagan.  I don't know if he is related to Clark since they attend different high schools, but he has hit 90 this summer from the LH side.  To show just how good Rortvedt is, Eagan is ranked just below him in the rankings for the 2016 class even with a 90 MPH fastball.

Thanks!  I know I should have dug a little deeper.  It would be nice to get him to commit soon if we are in on him which I figure we are, but it is almost certain that he and Clark would never play together at Arkansas because Clark will probably be drafted in 2016.

2016 has a couple of extremely talented pitchers who have connections to the Hogs.  Jack Eagan is cousins with Clark and is a LHP who has hit 90 while Tyler Benninghoff is the brother of 2014 signee Jack and showed the best breaking ball at PG Junior National in June.

For the 2nd year in a row, the Fayetteville Bulldogs will have a participant in the ACG.  This time it is SS Drew Tyler.  He will be teammates with Jacob Schlesener on the Chicago White Sox.  He is one of two Arkansas kids on the White Sox.

2017 LHP Hunter Milligan out of Greenbrier has committed to Mississippi State.

Gene Swindoll @GeneSwindoll     ·   6h

Greenbrier (AR) HS LHP Hunter Milligan (6-foot-3, 185) has committed to  MSU. He also received heavy interest from AR, OM and TN.

I'm sure there is at least one poster who could shed some light on this situation.  Also, haven't we heard of another player at Greenbrier around that age who is supposed to be very good?

ucahogfan

PG is reporting that we have picked up a commitment from Jenks RHP Barrett Loseke.  He is a RHP who hit 86 at a PG event earlier this summer, but he has a nice group of pitches and should add velo as he gets stronger.

You can read more here in his PG profile:

http://www.perfectgame.org/Players/PlayerProfile.aspx?ID=399925

He also tossed a perfect game this spring against Bixby:

http://southcountyleader.com/jenksjournal/sports/barrett-loseke-tosses-rare-perfect-game-for-jenks/article_0c3550f6-b447-11e3-879c-0019bb2963f4.html

Big Nasty 34

Yes, greenbrier has a power hitting first baseman the same age. Was on team USA last year I believe. Or 40 man roster I guess.

Ben Rortvedt will be a member of the Midwest Underclass Team in the first year of the Area Code Underclass Games.  The team has an interesting breakdown with 4 players from Wisconsin (3 already committed to schools, Clark Eagan's cousin the only uncommitted player), 6 players from Oklahoma (including one from Deer Creek which has a former Hog as HC), and the other 7 players split up between Texas, Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, and Iowa.  There could potentially be several future Hogs in this group.

http://www.studentsports.com/baseball/2014/08/01/midwest-underclass-team-set/

ucahogfan

From listening to DVH's PC from earlier this week, I'm led to believe that Milligan didn't have a scholarship offer on the table from the Hogs.  He said they hadn't sent out any 2017 offers yet, but he might need to re-consider.  Maybe Milligan is a candidate to flip once he gets an offer from the Hogs, but he is the 4th commitment for the 2017 class at Mississippi State and the other 3 are from the same general area in California.

About the only two instances I can remember DVH offering a scholarship to someone and the player commiting before their sophomore year was Drake Roberts and Blake Wiggins.  Roberts is an interesting case as he committed early on and signed with the Hogs, but never made it to the Hill.  He was a top 100 player in his class, but never really made an impact at the D-1 level.  I do believe he was drafted this spring though.  Wiggins committed the summer after his freshman year, but he was a legit stud ranked in the top 25 of his class because of his bat and his bat has carried him.  I expect he will make an impact for the Hogs and I think DVH has him penciled in as the starting 3B on the 2015 team.

And I don't blame him on not wanting to offer players before they are sophomores in high school.  Players have 3 years of developing before even stepping foot on a college campus (unless they graduate early like Taylor Gushue for Florida) and so much could happen in those 3 years.  For all we know, a player throwing 90 after his freshman year could go down with injury and never be the same.  A prospect also does a lot of maturing from junior high to high school and a coach can get a pretty good gauge on a player's maturity before sending an offer out.  DVH seems to be very similar to Bielema in recruiting in that he targets certain high character guys for the team.

dotnet

I always like how baseball seemed to have an unspoken agreement that they weren't going to offer kids too far out like football and basketball.  But I guess that is finished.  Baseball recruiting is so much harder than other sports, and now you're going to add something to the equation?

high cieling vs. actual production for three years
ability to get to campus - draft
ability to get to campus - juco (to get to draft earlier)
11.7 scholarships
3 year years of potential development/risk

Congrats to Navarre Raider junior pitcher Matt Cronin who just accepted an offer to play baseball at the University of Arkansas. #Raiders

The Hogs step outside their normal recruiting territory and pick up Florida LHP Matt Cronin.  He is from Navarre, Florida which is right on the Gulf in the Florida Panhandle.  He has hit 86 this summer at a PG event, but has added 7 MPH to his fastball since last October so it looks like this is a solid pick up.  The 2016 class is off to an excellent start and I think it will rival the 2014 class when all is said and done.

Sticks just committed to Arkansas. @Jkosty8 .   Time to put some meat on those bones.  They like them big in the SEC.  Wow!  Proud as heck!

The Hogs pick up their 5th commitment of the 2016 class in St. Louis Metro RHP Jacob Kostyshock.  He has the ideal height for a P at 6-4, but his PG profile says he is currently 160 LBs so there is a lot of room for growth.  He is teammates during the summer with fellow 2016 commit Jordan McFarland.  He has topped out at 85 this summer at a PG event, but he is up 9 MPH from last summer and it is easy to see him throwing much harder as he fills out.  Looks like an excellent pickup and Vitello's St. Louis roots are paying off.

Elite California HS OF Dominic Fletcher visited the school on Friday before heading out to Ole Miss on Saturday.  He is an elite prospect and our track record with California HS prospects is pretty good with McCann, Ficociello, and soon to be Nathan Rodriguez.

He is a smaller player currently standing only at 5-9, but he has a loud tool set.  At the PG Underclass Games earlier this month, he hit 96 from the OF and was named to the top prospect list.  Here is what PG had to say about him in the Top Prospect List article:

Fletcher wowed everyone in San Diego with his outstanding outfield arm strength and stunning accuracy and carry but it's really his overall game that stands out. He's a polished high average hitter at the plate with an extremely high baseball IQ for his age.

Please tell me that doesn't sound like Benintendi with an arm.  His arm would grade out at probably in the 65/70 range on a 20-80 scale in pro scouting circles.  His arm would allow him to stick in any OF spot.

Incoming 2014 signee Jack Benninghoff has an extremely strong arm from the OF as he hit 95 at a PG event last year, but Fletcher has topped him.  If we get Fletcher and get him to campus and he sees action his freshman year with Benninghoff and Bonfield still on campus, teams won't be running on our OF and all 3 should be solid contributors at the plate.

Here is a "story" from Otis Kirk about him - http://arkansas.247sports.com/Bolt/Blue-Chip-baseball-recruit-unofficially-visited-Arkansas-today-30339752

Kendall Rogers @KendallRogersPG     ·   11h

Gotta love rivalries. LHP Trysten Barlow, a T500 prospect, RHP Gray Fenter, ranked 55 nationally, decommit from #OleMiss, visiting #MSState.

Fenter is from West Memphis and committed to Ole Miss very early on.  I believe that I saw an article that one of the big reasons he committed there was that his sister played softball at Ole Miss and it felt like home to him.  He has hit 94 this spring and played in the Under Armour All-American Game at Wrigley this past weekend.

I think I saw that he is 19 right now and will be 20 or close to it at draft time next year.

BIG COMMITMENT ALERT
The Hogs picked up their 6th commitment of the 2016 class in California HS OF Dominic Fletcher.  He visited campus last weekend and I think Nathan Rodriguez played a large part in getting him to visit.  Although he is a smaller player at only 5-9, he has a large set of tools.  Fletcher brings a legit plus or better arm from the OF and is a smart hitter who should hit for a high average.  Now we just have to worry about getting him to campus.

We now have commitments from 6 different states for the 2016 class from coast the coast and not one in-state player yet.  Our 2015 class has players committed from 5 different states.

Our tradition of having a Dominic on the team will continue hopefully.  With Fletcher and Williams, we have a couple of smaller players in the 2016 class they we don't normally recruit, but they have a loud tool set which will play at Arkansas.

There may be another pitcher from Bryant or Benton for the 2016 class. I know there were two for 2015 and one moved to NWA.
