Quote...Chief among them was the $50 million football operations building.

On Monday, the Gamecocks cleared the final hurdle for the project, which was receiving approval from the State Fiscal Accountability Authority.

"It's a facility that is necessary. I think some people look at it and go, it's over-the-top again. And it really isn't, for us," Tanner said. "Our football program is very strong. We have a great place to practice, two great practice fields. We've got a state of the art indoor, but the day-to-day operations of our football is not great.

"Our coaches' offices are over in the north end, our weight room is in the south end and our training room is on the west side. There's not a great flow of effectiveness and efficiency. This will give us an opportunity to have everything football under one roof."

Earlier that day, Tanner said, he bumped into Muschamp at Williams-Brice Stadium.

"When are we putting the shovels in the ground," Muschamp asked, according to Tanner.

"Then, he said hello..."

QuoteArkansas athletic facilities has to be considered "great press."

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema is surely pleased with the rave reviews the Razorbacks athletic facilities received in a recent article from Forbes writer Kristi Dosh.

Right in the thick of recruiting season, Dosh gushed about her recent experience touring the Arkansas campus, comparing it favorably to the SEC opponents that Bielema and staff are actively trying to sell their campus against.

QuoteThe new lease runs through 2033. Coach John Calipari called it a win-win for all parties and athletic director Mitch Barnhart said "it's a good day for Kentucky."

"We didn't want to go any place else," Barnhart said. "We wanted to be there. I don't think there's anybody in the world today who sits there and says, 'Hey, we want to take on a $300 million arena when we've got a wonderful, tradition-rich facility that we've been playing in for 40 years."

June of 2014: a plan for a $350 million renovation for Rupp Arena and the adjacent convention center was halted. Kentucky's current lease would've ended in 2018, but any questions about the university's long-term plan for Rupp Arena or a separate facility have ended.

A video board and new sound and lighting systems were installed prior to this season, but future renovations — as part of this new deal —  include four individual UK entertainment or club suites and replacing all bench seats with chair backs in sections 228-234 and 211-217, an upper-deck area. The renovations should be completed by the start of the 2018-19 season.

Quote...new facility will be a 44,000-square foot, multi-floor building with recruiting space for football and Olympic sports, a new club level for fans and a new press box. The project also includes a renovation of Auburn's existing locker room.

"Over the last several years, the Athletics Department has been developing plans for improving Jordan-Hare Stadium to enhance the game day experience for fans, students and players," the executive summary for the project reads. "As a result of this detailed planning effort, two of the highest-priority projects for the Stadium are the development of a larger and greatly improved recruiting facility and enhancements to the home team locker room, for game day support."

The estimated cost of the project is $28 million, and it will be financed by the Athletics Department. If approved, construction will begin May 2017 and conclude July 2018.

Auburn has discussed renovations of Jordan-Hare Stadium over the last several years, but no plans have gone forward until now. Last year, Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs said any renovations wouldn't begin until the 2018 season, as Auburn hosts both rivals Georgia and Alabama in 2017.

QuoteRe: construction of a south end-zone facility at Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field.

Missouri Board of Curators approved the hiring of an architect for the project by a 5-1 vote. By passing the measure, the board authorized design costs of $4.31 million already raised by Mizzou's athletic department through private donations.

The project has an initial budget of $96.7 million. The athletic department collected about half that total through fundraising.

Memorial Stadium opened in 1926 and has seen numerous upgrades in recent years. The south end zone area had been open for years before grandstands and video scoreboards were added. The north end zone is best known for its grass expanse containing a large block-letter M.

The south-end renovation will include a training facility for the Tigers football team.

The lone dissenting vote was by Curator Pamela Henrickson.

QuoteProject is expected to include moving the locker rooms to the west side of the stadium, and adding a recruiting room next to the locker rooms.

This will be the biggest facilities project at UGA since the building of the indoor athletic facility –

Smart has mentioned that the current locker rooms, located on the east end of the stadium, are the same ones he dressed in as a player in the late 1990s.

The recruiting room would then be adjacent to the new locker rooms, which would make it more convenient for coaches. The project would also include improvements to public restrooms and other facilities close to the west end zone area.

QuoteTrae Young's family invited Jason Jordan into their home as they discussed Young's six finalists: Kentucky, et al.

The Pros: The Pros

The Con: Young's mother revealed a surprise: Kentucky's Coal Lodge is the worst dorm of the schools Young is considering.

"But the housing... They've got the worst dorms out of all the schools," his mother said.

"Yeah they did," Trae says with a laugh. "But to Coach Cal's point, you don't pick a school based on the housing."

"Yeah, but you've gotta live there for nine months," Candice replies. "I mean come on now it was one room, the sink was in the bedroom; definitely traditional old school dorm room."

"Yeah, the rooms couldn't compete with Kansas, Oklahoma State and those other schools," Trae says. "It's not up to date."

Often referred to as "the gold standard in college basketball," the $8 million Coal Lodge opened five years ago in 2012.

Quote"We'll have the best college baseball facility in the state of Kentucky and it will be one of the premier college baseball facilities in the country," Mingione said. "Will it be the biggest? Nope, it won't be the biggest. But it will be the right one."

Kentucky has played at Cliff Hagan Stadium since 1979. The new stadium is being ushered in with Mingione as the new face of the program. Mingione spent the last eight seasons as an assistant at Mississippi State. The Wildcats are off to a 4-5 start in his first year.

Quote"Compare it to someone else," McGarity said. "Everyone compares it to Alabama. Compare it to Tennessee, compare it to LSU. So I think what happens is so many people refer to one place. There are 12 other schools in the league. Let's compare to others. Some better. Some don't have what we have."

While there's some truth to what McGarity says, that's not what fans with national championship aspirations want to hear. After all, the path to the College Football Playoff likely includes a victory against the Crimson Tide in Atlanta until someone proves otherwise.

QuoteGeorgia has unveiled drawings for planned renovations that it hopes will change the "energy" at Stegeman Coliseum.

The plans include the long-awaited center-hung scoreboard, new seats that will all be black, a new sound system, and lighting to improve the atmosphere.

The improvements were approved last year, at a cost of just over $6 million, and are the second phase of a renovation project. The first phase was before this past season, at a cost of just under $2 million, included the large mural on one side of the arena.

Stegeman Coliseum opened in 1966. This is the latest renovation to the facility, which had air conditioning put in for the 1996 Olympics...

QuoteSteve Cannon, CEO of Atlanta Falcons parent company AMB Group said on Tuesday that the stadium's opening has been pushed back from July 30 to Aug. 26. The downtown stadium was originally supposed to open on Mar. 1. That date was moved to June 1. Then the June 1 was pushed to July 30, and now it's postponed to Aug. 26.

The stadium's retractable roof remains to be the central cause in the delay.

Atlanta's professional soccer team had a July 30 home game in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That game will now be played at nearby Georgia Tech on July 29, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. City officials are now aiming for the Falcons' preseason game vs. the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 26 as the stadium's debut.

The NFL announced last week that Atlanta will host Super Bowl 53 on Feb. 3, 2019.

Before then it is scheduled to host the SEC championship game.

QuoteATHENS – There was a threat of rain on Tuesday, which in years past – every year, to be exact – would have caused vexation and frantic planning among the Georgia football team's staff and players: Cancel practice? Gut it out in the rain? Take a bus to Flowery Branch to the Atlanta Falcons facility?

But on Tuesday, no one worried. The team just went into its bright and shiny indoor facility, for its first full-fledged practice there.

"Some guys might tell you they're happy for the rain day around here," tailback Nick Chubb said, meaning those wanting a day off. "But that's over with."

That's not the only thing that's over with for the Bulldogs. While not everything is convenient yet – parking for the players around the football facility is still lacking – the arrival of the indoor facility closed two eras: The long one of having the weather ruin practice plans, and the year of having to bus to practice.

This time last year the team was bussing to every spring practice, as it also had to do during the season. While the indoor facility was under construction in 2016, the team practiced at a makeshift set of practice fields off Milledge...

QuoteChick-fil-A Kickoff officials aren't worried about whether the retractable roof on Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will be open when the college-football event is played there for the first time.

That's because they've already decided to play the Alabama-Florida State and Georgia Tech-Tennessee games on Labor Day weekend with the roof closed to eliminate the variable of weather.

"Most definitely," said Gary Stokan

2018 Chick-fil-A Kickoff game between Auburn and Washington also will be played with the roof closed, Stokan said. That is Washington's expressed preference, he said.

Although Falcons and Atlanta United soccer officials have said they intend to have the roof open for as many of their teams' games as possible, many other marquee sports events in the building probably will tend to be played with the roof closed.

SEC and College Football Playoff officials previously have indicated they intend to play their championship games in Mercedes-Benz Stadium with the roof closed. Mercedes-Benz Stadium's first SEC title game is schedule for Dec. 2, while the CFP national championship game is scheduled there Jan. 8.

CFP executive director Bill Hancock pointed out that the 3-year-old playoff's championship game has been played in two retractable-roof stadiums, in Arlington, Texas, and Glendale, Ariz., both times with the roof closed.

Auburn won't be renovating the north end zone of Jordan-Hare Stadium until at least 2018, athletic director Jay Jacobs said Wednesday.

The delayed project, which is projected to cost more than $140 million, was first proposed in May 2015 with the possibility of construction beginning at the end of that season. It includes an expanded concourse and walkway, club seating, a new video scoreboard, a recruiting lounge and a new locker room among other amenities.

Vanderbilt has examined plans for a new stadium, either on campus or, most recently, a shared facility with a potential Major League Soccer franchise at The Fairgrounds Nashville

QuoteAD David Williams said possible stadium plans "had nothing to do with" Derek Mason's contract negotiations.

Instead, Mason requested an increased budget throughout other facets of the program, especially in recruiting. Vanderbilt has focused its attention on recruiting Polynesian players on the West Coast and Hawaii, and a larger travel budget was needed.

QuoteNew custom high-definition video boards inside Reed Arena are part of a multi-million dollar upgrade package across Texas A&M's campus.

The new screens coming to College Station are part of a $6.623 million project, according to information obtained by the The News through an open records request. Upgrades to displays inside A&M's basketball and volleyball arena will cost a little more than $3.9 million.

The scoreboard that will hang in the middle of the arena will feature two true HD screens, which are the first of their kind in a college basketball venue, according to an A&M release.

"We're continually looking at ways to improve our in-game experience across our athletic facilities and are excited to announce the new video elements at Reed Arena which will make it one of the premier venues in college athletics," A&M athletic director Scott Woodward said in a statement issued in April.

Along with the new scoreboard, Reed Arena will receive a new end wall display and a 360-degree ribbon that will span the inside of the arena.

The other screens purchased from Daktronics in the project will be installed at A&M's new softball stadium, new outdoor track stadium and inside the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

The screen for the outdoor track stadium costs a little more than $1.135 million, while the new softball screen is $840,000 and the indoor track display is $654,150.

QuoteDESTIN, Fla. — A little while ago, Kirby Smart and Georgia's football staff asked players if there was anything they'd like to add to their locker room. Something different. Something fun.

And that's how the team ended up with a DJ booth. Smart tweeted out a picture a couple weeks ago of star tailback Sony Michel turning records while fellow star tailback Nick Chubb leaned on it.

"I couldn't tell you the first thing about that thing," Smart said Tuesday. "I can just tell you they like it and they enjoy it."

It was a small step in the larger facilities arms race, which UGA has been (belatedly) participating in – to Smart's benefit. The $30.2 million indoor facility opened earlier this year, and construction has begun on the $63 million west end zone project at Sanford Stadium, which among other things will replace the decades-old locker rooms.

But if the national picture is any indication, UGA won't be able to stop there if it wants to keep up.

Texas has put in very swanky – and expensive – lockers. Arkansas coach Bret Bielema, who has to recruit against the Longhorns, was asked about that and what other schools might be doing.

"I do know this: For certain kids flash matters," Bielema said, then added: "At Arkansas, we can be sexy."
