ZOOK wants the job!

I lived in Alabama all of last year and my friends and family there that are Bama and Tiger fans are saying that there hasn't been ANY news that TT is leaving! But my uncle in Minnesota (who has Big Ten ties) has said multiple times that Ron Zook has inquired about the job! Not saying that Jeff Long is considering him but to say that Ron Zook wants the job!


I didnt think Zook would be a good fit but maybe witht eh right OC & DC he would be great! He has a chip on his shoulder and all know what happens when a coach coaches with a chip on his shoulder!

Zook took a team that SUUUCKED! ILLINOIS for crying out loud! and turned them in to a Conference Title Contender...beating the #1 team in the nation! (I know the coach who was fired beat the #1 team as well) but if you want a strong recruiter and excitement on campus...you get Zook!

Zook is NOT leaving the Illini.  He still has very hard feelings for the way he was treated by Florida and the SEC.  He has found the Big 10 very much to his liking and has recruited a great class for this next year.  Not a chance that he is leaving!!!!

I was listening to the "Morning Drive" in B'Ham on my way to work this a.m. Those guys seem to believe it is about a 50/50 that TT will leave for the Arkansas job. They also believe the Sexton is a snake.

I could live with Zook.  The same arguments that have been made for Butch can be said about Zook.  He built a strong team that  won a NC when he left.  He has taken perennial chump Illinois and made them a Big 10 contender.

I'm not sold on Zook, but I think that some of this criticism is unwarranted.  Sure, he didn't put it all together in Florida, but he didn't get much of a chance either.  He recruited the kids that won a national championship in Florida.  He can recruit.  he has coached up the kids in Illinois to OVERACHIEVE.  I don't think the book is closed on Zook's ability to run a football program yet.

i think this is a pretty fair assessment.  he's not in my top 5 either, but c'mon people we're replacing houston nut* here!  anything's an improvement.  with zook's recruiting talent and the right OC & DC to let him take more of a CEO approach than he did at florida, we could be scary.

You're right, I don't think TT has won a Sun Belt Championship and Mississippi State Championship all in the same year. Maybe I'm wrong. I didn't research it. He's just not the coach ole Hootie is.  :razorback:

Are you serious?  He was at Florida for 3 YEARS!  You can't come in and change a program in 3 years around your philosophy...It takes about 4-5 before you start to see the players you recruited and developed come about.... so ya, those players who won Florida's NC were Zook's players that he recruited.  His record was 8-5-, 8-5 and 7-4 while at Florida.. nothing great, but not horrible.

I don't see why you people have a problem with Zook.  He would recruit us the players needed to win like he did at Florida.  When it becomes apparent (and it prolly will) that he can't win the big game, we replace him (hopefully with BD).  At that point we have a solid talent base to work with.  He might not be the long-term answer, but he surely can out recruit HDN.
