Right now, it would probably be a blow out by ASU.

This game should be the first game we play every year. Neutral site game in Little Rock. "The Battle for the Rock" would be huge in this state a sell out every year and real good PPV numbers.

I'm a hog fan and I agree... other hog fans are afraid. Frank Broyles made them afraid...Let those folks die off and it will happen.

What you afraid of...provoking thought. Face it..Arkansas is afraid of playing Arkansas State. Afraid of losing the game ...afraid of being looked at as a "somewhat equal" to the high and mighty U of A. Arkansas might do well to remember the  lyrics of Bob Dillon, " the times..they are a changin" and the state of Arkansas is up for grabs like never before when it comes to supporting a College football team. As a Razorback fan I say play em and beat them...That's what competition is all about. Everything else is politics.

You are also the one that wants to play Rice, TCU, Baylor, SMU, and Houston every again year also. Geez.

Why?  Because folks continue to feed the ASU trolls.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

#1 reason UA won't play ASU:  Nothing to gain

HiggiePiggy

When you guys are consistently going to bowl games and winning 7 to 9 games a year and making big time instate recruits think of going to there then we can talk.

Until that happends there is no reason for the razorbacks to play Arkansas State.

Let it die and come back when you have accomplished the above.
If a man speaks and no woman is around to hear him, is he still wrong?

TOM "tbw1"

Arkansas should the second game on ASU's schedule.  Their first game should be UCA v ASU.
Well see, there's your problem. What you should be thinking is, what would Harry Rex do?

Big Dog

This happens everytime ASU is having a good year and the HOG'S season is in the tank. Where where was ASU when we were 10-2 or 8-4 last year asking for a game. They weren't because they knew that they would get ther ass kicked. We will hear from ASU this year and maybe next year but in 3 years when the Hogs and Petrino have rebuilt the program you will not hear a word from them. The only reason why want to play the Hogs is for the money. I say give them their game but on the hogs terms. I would not give them a game in little rock. Make them travel to Favetteville, give them 5,000 tickets and if they want to buy more then make them have to purchase all of the fayetteville games in order to get one. That is what Frank did the last time the Horns came to town. I would not make easy for them. I would make hard as possible of them. Lets play them when we are ready and not when they are ready. I could see in about 3-4 years the game being played but by then ASU won't want to play the Hogs because by then they will be a top 25 team.

We as fans suffer from "Broyles Speak" and it will take 3-7 years to rid ourselves of the affliction.

Well put Big Dog  :razorback:
That is exactly what i was going to say. I am a
Razorback fan and i do hope that ASU wins when they
play too.
The thing is, nobody ever hears a word from
any of the ASU folks until the Hogs are having a piss
poor year and ASU manages to win 1 or 2 more games
than they lose.

We can't even claim 'Thank God for Mississippi' on this one.  I can't think of one other state that has two or more D-1 programs that don't/won't play each other.

I just can't see ASU pulling that many of the state's top recruits even if they do happen to beat UA from time to time.  Remember when we were getting our ass kicked by lowly SMU 12-15 years ago?  Wouldn't it have made more sense to play ASU (and probably win) than to put our nobs on the Texas recruiting trial chopping block against the 6th or 7th best team in Texas?...and lose?

You guys call out some folks about 'getting with the times'...'this is a new era', yet many of you are the same cats who still enjoy the confines of Frank Brolyes' ass when it comes to UA vs. ASU.  Which is it?

Arkansas a backwards state?...not totally frontwards yet, fer sherr.

Again, we are the only university in the United States that has a situation like the one we're in.  You don't see an entire state (at least 90% of the people who care about college sports) rooting for either Miss St. or Ole Miss.  In Arkansas, you do.  They want to keep it that way.  If they start to give ASU credibility, they lose fans/boosters (granted, it would take a very long time before there would be a significant difference), ASU grows, gains resources needed to compete consistently with the U of A, beats the U of A more often, recruits notice, ASU starts getting better talent, taking away from the talent that Arkansas has, then both teams are average, the U of A brings in less money than before, can't fill up their 75,000 seat stadium because they've lost the southern part of the state to ASU, etc. etc. etc.

I don't think all of this would happen, but it could.  Why chance it for a chance to play ASU?

Can't fill up the stadium now (how was Saturday's crowd?).

Pull the games from LR and you've lost the South AR anyway.

BTW, I don't really care if they ever do play or not.  I think it would be interesting, but that's about it.  UA wins 19 of 20.

I've been up all night and all the previous day....but I can still give Ledzep a thumbs up. Many Hog fans continue to be influenced by 50 years of "Broyles Speak'...It will take time to undo that and get current with the correct century.

I was referring to the amount of support across the state.

Nebraska does regularly play Creighton in other sports. Which means Arkansas is probably the only state where two DI programs exist that don't play each other in any sports at all.

Yep.  They're not in the same situation.  If Creighton had an FBS football program, I could almost guarantee you that Nebraska would not play them and would probably stop playing them in the other sports.

I am a huge razorback fan. I am an ASU graduate. I have always felt that they should play for economic reasons. I hate to think of the money going out of the state to pay for somebody elses program. I know that the UofA has always said that they have nothing to gain. Well, perhaps that is true, but the state of Arkansas has something to gain. The benefit to the many should be the main focus rather than the benefit to the few. The strength of the lobby in the legislature prevents laws from being passed that would force games like in Mississippi. The weakness of legislatures in general is that the legislators are self serving themselves or this would have already been resolved. My sons have graduated from UofA and probably my grandsons will, but the blight on the UofA is and will continue to be that they haven't done what's right for the whole state. What a shame.

Jeepers, creepers ASU CryWolves.
Take this worn out and constant whining over to your own taxpayer provided stadium so you can moan about it to the mostly empty aluminum bleachers there.
Maybe even try to focus on the games you actually have on your schedule.

Arkansas pays Troy $600,000 to come play at WM Stadium.
Arkansas State gets paid by TAMU $600,000 to go play in College Station.

Net Effect:  $0 going out of the state ($600,000 in, $600,000 out)

Arkansas pays WIU $600,000 to come play in Fayetteville.
Arkansas State gets paid by Alabama $800,000 to come play in Tuscaloosa.

Net Effect:  $200,000 coming into the state ($800,000 in, $600,000 out)

Clear?

We play some "lower" games.  Teams that we have nothing to gain by b
eating them. Then we win a few games and wonder why we are not higher in the ratings.  You are right, ASU would probably kick our butt more than we think.

Not really....it's the Frank Broyles effect that keeps this game from happening....give it a few years.  The prowess of ASU may have figured in at one time, but it isn't the biggest obstacle now....as much as you Red Wolves fans would like to think.

Get over yourself.....and hope that it happens by 2012.
