If we had two of our strongest girls playing up to their ALL SEC past then we might be in first place in the SEC

Quote from: RazorSax on Yesterday at 10:24:55 pmGood info. I'm almost 40, so this was a bit before my time!

I've always been an Arkansas first, conference second kind of person. There are exceptions, of course, like Ole Miss anything, and soon to be Texas...otherwise SEC supporter. I want Kentucky to stay relevant and good. It's a positive thing for the conference for us to be well-recruited, well-coached, and successful. I guess we'll see how the rest of the recruiting plays out, see what kind of rosters we end up, and hope that we have two pretty good teams with a marquee match up this season!

Man I hear ya and me too. They keep talking about more conference expansion and if that does happen I really hope they go after North Carolina as one of the schools. We don't need more football schools, we have that market cornered already. We need more good basketball schools to help balance out the league. You balance out the SEC with some more basketball teams and the money should roll in even more. People make a lot out of the college football  playoffs but man March Madness pulls in money too.

How was Cal not vetoed then?

Hate that us at Kentucky and A&M are the biggest games left although Tenn and Vanderbilt is pretty special.

What could determine the conference winner is the upsets from lesser teams such as Florida and LSU surprising one of the top 3 teams

Quote from: ukchingy on Yesterday at 10:14:43 pmOk so here is what I have said previously that you might have missed. I'm not sure how old you are but Kentucky had a cheating scandal with basketball back during the late 80s during the Eddie Sutton coaching time. That's when they got put on probation and Rick Pitino was hired. What you may not know is Pitino was Kentucky's FOURTH choice back then. Just because you are a blue blood program doesn't mean you get your pick of coaches. There is a lot of pressure in those jobs, and that's why Cal has told the story of Joe B. Hall telling him to only do 10 years at Kentucky then move on. That much stress on a person takes its toll. Now getting back to the cheating scandal, it was so bad that Kentucky said never again. We actually have people employed to make sure everything is done on the up and up now. The most well known is Sandy Bell. Anyway, the AD is responsible for hiring coaches sure... but the president of the university also veto's candidates. ANYONE with any sort of problematic history is automatically not a candidate. There were coaches out there the fans would have been ok with, but there was no chance they could have been hired with the restrictions in place. Bruce Pearl is an example, a lot of fans love that guy and wanted him but he was never a possible candidate. We shot our shot at the big guys, they all turned us down as was expected. (Jay Wright, Dan Hurley and Scott Drew and even Brad Stevens.) A lot of people wanted Donovan just like you mentioned, but are you aware he turned us down twice previously in the past and screwed us over one of those times? He actually accepted the job once then backed out later down the line. Our AD did in fact contact him this time around and he told us he wasn't ready to talk about it yet, and they didn't want to wait on him only to either get turned down a third time or possibly screwed over again. They wanted someone in there quickly who could start working the transfer portal and building relationships. So the next tier of possible coaches were basically Pope, Shaka Smart and another guy who I can't think of at the moment. Pope was one of us, he coaches an offensive style that UK fans like. He understands how insane the fans can be and is not only ok with that but he welcomes it. He knows they are demanding, and he knows they will not let him off the hook just because he is a former player. Fans still want him to win and will run him out of town if he fails, he knows that and is ok with it. We know he hasn't got the resume, but we also see how restricted he was at BYU. Its not easy to recruit there, but he did things with lesser ranked players that Kentucky couldn't do this past year even with our much better rated players. They beat Kansas and were ranked better defensively than our team was, so there are things there to build on. BYU was ranked in the Top 25 before the tournament started, if he can do that at a school like BYU that is so limited.... he should be able to do a lot more with Kentucky's resources. So we think we are sitting in good shape. He will get two years, all he has to do right now is show progress in those two years. A lot of people think Kentucky fans want a championship every year, which I have never met a fan who expected that. We expect to be in the Top 20 at the very least, if you are in the Top 10-20 you have a shot which is what we want.

Lots of talk about protecting women in sports. The U of A has a two-sport female athlete that is actually part of a bill that would help do this.

Where do you and Courtney stand on this issue? Have the women's coaches on campus been asked about it?

The only thing negative I have to say is these young guys don't know how to grow a real mullet.

You combine the '80s hair bands with "long hair" and then make the mullet. I personally had mine permed.

These guys are trying to make a short mullet and I can't condone that.

Hagan Smith is almost right, needs a couple more inches.

Then let's enjoy it till it dies.
