A grand slam often ends up over a fence.

Greg Deichmann's ended up under a bench.

The sophomore's bases-loaded smashing shot bounded underneath LSU's bullpen bench in a wild, first-inning grand slam that gave the Tigers a 4-0 lead over Rice on Sunday evening in the NCAA Baton Rouge regional winners bracket final.

Deichmann's crowd-rousing screamer cleared the bases. He raced home after Rice right fielder Charlie Warren attempted to retrieve the ball, unsuccessfully, from under the bench. Umpires first ruled Deichmann's shot a two-run, ground-rule double. After a brief huddle, home play umpire Scott Kennedy signaled the home run call, and a packed Alex Box Stadium roared in celebration for a rare inside-the-park grand slam.

Ole Miss Athletic director Ross Bjork apologizes for incident at Swayze Field

Ross Bjork apologized for an incident that occurred at Swayze Field before Ole Miss played Tulane in a regional game on Saturday afternoon.

The Tulane baseball Twitter account shared a photo of a baseball it said had been thrown at the team during batting practice and had "I took my Chevy to the levee but the levee was gone" inscribed on it. "Katrina '06" was also written on the ball, referencing the 2005 hurricane.

The second-seeded Tulane eliminated the top-seeded Rebels with a 6-5 win afterward.

"Respect for @GreenWaveBSB & @TU_Dannen [Tulane athletic director Troy Dannen]," Bjork wrote on his Twitter account on Saturday. "Congrats on the win. Our university family apologizes for the disrespect we displayed today."

Ole Miss chancellor Jeff Vitter also wrote on Twitter, "Congrats @GreenWaveBSB on the win! The ball incident was unacceptable on all levels and is not who we are."

Tulane baseball Twitter account also pointed out that Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" was played before first pitch, sarcastically calling Ole Miss "classy" for doing so. The song is starting pitcher David Parkinson's walkout music, which he's used all season, and is about a flood that occurred in Mississippi in 1927.

Tulane's baseball account has since deleted both tweets.

Over the course of Tim Jamieson's career, Missouri got more than it paid for in a baseball coach who didn't have built-in advantages over most of his conference rivals in the Big Eight or Big 12, much less the Southeastern Conference. For many of his 22 years as head coach, the Tigers achieved more with less.

In the 2000s, Missouri was a fixture in the NCAA Tournament, making it seven straight times from 2003-09...



Jamieson did a fine job for a long time, and I thought he earned last year's contract extension based on an outstanding coaching job in 2015. But after this season's regression, 2015 looked like an outlier rather than the start of another successful run. And with only two years left on his deal, job security would have again become a recurring question that hampered recruiting.

Simply put: It was time.
