I hope this finally gives him the opportunity to not only show what he can do, but to finally win a firm starting position.

Re-sign really needs a hyphen.  I thought you were telling us he quit.   ;)

re-sign

Verb

1. To renew or extend a contract.

Can be confused

resign

1. To give up an office or position.

Totally different meaning.  When I read the Op title, I immediately thought he was on the way out.

A literati like you? Someone who is gifted in the art of linguistics should know that football players don't typically "resign." When a football player quits, he retires. And Mallett was a free agent. I feel like you knew better, you just felt the need to be obtuse and take an opportunity to appear intellectually superior to the OP. Shame on you.

Thanks.  As a native Arkansan and current Houstonian, I hope this is true.  However I find it rather odd that the news is broken by a Cleveland Browns webiste quoting a tweet which links the Texans website.  I don't see any mention of this on the Texans website.  I wonder if this is a case of misinterpreting this article from the Houston Chronicle under the heading Off-season crystal ball:

Your just trying to illicit a response. It didnt affect me one bit. But it is the principal of it that has me believing it was anti climatic. I'm going to go lay down. I make no illusion to being tired, I just dont wish to go any farther in this commentary.

Just checked with a friend (again) who works with the texans...

Someone that started this thread still needs to inform the texans... because the were/are not aware yet. Please  let them know the contract details too.

Link? Great if true and certainly happy for him but I think we would all like to see the link where the Texans have announced his re-signing and their intent for him to be their starter next season.

Stand-by........The Texans will let you know in a short period of time.

DoctorSusscrofa

Did he actually sign with Houston in the first place?  I thought he was under contract and the teams just traded him. I think it's possible that re-sign may be in error and the correct term may be sign.  :)
