A literati like you? Someone who is gifted in the art of linguistics should know that football players don't typically "resign." When a football player quits, he retires. And Mallett was a free agent. I feel like you knew better, you just felt the need to be obtuse and take an opportunity to appear intellectually superior to the OP. Shame on you.

Thanks.  As a native Arkansan and current Houstonian, I hope this is true.  However I find it rather odd that the news is broken by a Cleveland Browns webiste quoting a tweet which links the Texans website.  I don't see any mention of this on the Texans website.  I wonder if this is a case of misinterpreting this article from the Houston Chronicle under the heading Off-season crystal ball:

Did he actually sign with Houston in the first place?  I thought he was under contract and the teams just traded him. I think it's possible that re-sign may be in error and the correct term may be sign.
