Monday Morning Quarterback / Re: Who did Drink bribe?

Quote from: redleg on Yesterday at 09:41:05 am2016, 2017, and 2020 Mizzou was not "clearly" the better team. They got the breaks and managed to win, but not because they were that much better. And yes, 2016 was an upset.

A few things that gets me is ... :
1. Arkansas clearly has the better tradition. In almost every metric, the Hogs are a better program historically than Missouri, AND have better facilities.
2. Not sure what the deal is, but I'd like to know who has the voodoo doll of the Hogs when they play in Columbia.
3. This is the one that bugs me the most! ... the fact that this is clearly a forced rivalry by the SEC. While Missouri is really very annoying, I feel that a majority of Razorback fans honestly don't give two s***S about Missouri or a made-up rivalry with them. If Missouri bolted for the Big Ten (which they should) and we never played them again, I would be just fine. And no, I don't like losing to them, but that wouldn't be the major factor in that. The major factor would be, I just don't care about beating Mizzou the way I care about beating Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, or Ole Miss. Sorry, your just not that important to me, and I think most Hog fans feel the same way. Do we want to beat you? Yes...mostly to keep the Tigers fans from running their mouths. But it's just not as important as other games.

Now that Texas is in the SEC and their season finale with A&M is back, I want to see Arkansas play LSU on Thanksgiving weekend again. Move Missouri to earlier in the season. Mizzou needs to renew their actual TRUE rivalry with Kansas and play them at the end of every season from now on!

Ark. has slightly better tradition than Mizzou in Football I agree but only by a slim margin if you want to talk metrics. Your all time Winning percentage is .576 ours is .544 not a large margin by any stretch of the imagination to but it into perspective Ark has won 13 more games than Mizzou overall. We have more Conference titles than Ark. in a tougher Conference to boot don't compare the SWC to the BIG 6/8/12 there is no comparison. Ark. has a won 1 more Bowl game than Mizzou 17 to 16 but Ark. has a lower winning percentage in Bowl games .420 to .444 so it's a virtual push or tie, with us with a slight lead.

And Ark. has one claimed national title from the FWAA and Mizzou has two unclaimed titles Poling/Anderson&Hester. I know this is gonna curl your hog tail but nobody that isn't a hog fan doesn't consider the Tide the 1964 title holder with the AP and UPI naming them as the National Title Holders.  Now I fully suspect for Some Hog fan to write a long post about how the FWAA was seen by some as more prestigious but that Dog not gonna Hunt Cause the AP has been the gold standard and the Name Bama carries more weight.

Ark. Claimed NC does give the HOGS the Slight Edge in Historic Tradition I 100% agree with that. But Other than that NC it's a literal wash. And if you are talking about recent history say the last 25 years then the Average Fan and Recruit is gonna say Mizzou has been a Better program based on our success.

There is no Voodo doll at all. Gary Pinkel and Drink have just done a better Job of building a Program with Less resources than your parade of coaches. Hence we have beaten Ark. more often than not.

I do agree it's a Contrived rivalry made up by the SEC based on Location and because in Truth it appears both programs are on the same level to a large degree so it makes sense to the Executives making the decisions that we should be natural rivals.

I think deep down this is what Bothers Hog fans about the made up rivalry it is a Window into what the rest of the conference and nation thinks of the HOG program and your status in the realm of CFB. You are seen as a Mid-tier program that has had marginal success and clearly is No better of a program than Mizzou and not as good in recent history because Mizzou has beaten the hogs on the regular.

I don't disagree that 90% Hog fans want to beat other programs more they should they have a longer history with other programs.... As a Mizzou fan I want to Beat other Programs more than the Hogs as well. Ten. and UK where number 1 and 2 for me since we joined the east. The Hogs where tied for 3rd with A&M but  with the Addition of TX and OU they Shoot to the top of course. They hogs could slide into 3rd if we keep playing you all yearly as it would make sense.

Recruiting Forum: Kirk's Korner / Re: Danny Saili to Hogs

Quote from: ArkansasI on Yesterday at 05:29:34 pmOtis, thanks for keeping us informed.  Reading your reports, I'm hoping Suggs will decide to become a Hog.

From a ratings perspective, it's difficult to know how good these guys may be.  I rely upon our coaches and you to tell us who looks like they can play... I don't study film and am not sure what I'd learn about most the guys coming from a lower division if I did.

As I look at these players in the transfer portal, Saili enjoys a .8900 rating on 247 from his high school days and a 90.92 by On3 (looks like this may also be from HS - he has no rating from BYU... of course, he left there before playing a down).  I hope the big fella is more than huge... the SEC eats guys that aren't athletic and strong.

Khafre Brown was rated by On3 at 91.34 coming out of high school and 86.00 from USF; his 247 transfer value came in at .8400.

Jay'Viar Suggs is not rated by On3.  I think he enjoys a .8700 transfer rating on 247.  Best I can tell, Jay'Viar is from Flint, Michigan and may be hoping to latch on with Michigan or Michigan State.  If those teams don't have DL needs, we might have a chance.

CJ West appears to be as good as any DL the Hogs might hope to sign, but he is from Illinois and appears intent on taking his 247 .8900 transfer rating to the BIG10 - Wisconsin or Indiana.

All to say, I'm really happy to have Saili aboard.
Saili carries his weight very well but I'm sure they'll want to tighten him up some. He's quick off the ball and I think we got lucky to get in on him quick after he decided to leave BYU which was rather unexpected (if there is such a thing with this anymore).
Like most fans I'd like to see us get higher player ratings but filling the holes you need to fill is the most important thing. And Petrino always gets some head scratchers as far as ratings go. He has his own system when it comes to recruiting and it usually works out ok. When he was first hired in December of 2007 Tyler Wilson was going to Tulsa and Dennis Johnson was probably not coming to Arkansas either. He liked what he saw in both of them right away. Told DJ he was his top priority RB which is what he wanted to hear all along. He likes lots of receivers on roster and plenty of depth at QB and RB. With the portal now you can get those holes filled much easier than before. It's great for that. But it might cost you some stars here and there.

Quote from: @Blue-Chip on Yesterday at 08:10:28 pmArkansas has been playing those teams for a century. Did you see Arkansas Fans storm the field after beating a 5-7 Texas Team?  Didn't matter that Texas wasn't good, it was about beating the Texas Brand. Arkansas Fan's don't realize that Mizzou Fans would rather beat Texas, A&M, LSU, and Ole Miss over Arkansas as well. Actually everyone else would too.

Correct Mizzou like Ark. would prefer to beat other teams first like OU/TX/TxA$M before the Hogs.

Quote from: Salty spork on Yesterday at 11:32:25 pmSwim is a product of title 9. Got to have women's sports to offset football. That's why many schools have ladies swim, soccer, rowing and not men's.

Hard to say what happens if football m9ney leaves the equation.

But leave swim alone. My oldest is working hard at getting good enough to swim in college. Pick on polo.

Fair enough.

Undoubtedly the other sports will suffer.

Without delving too far out of sports, I think college should be free such that the need for your oldest to get a swim scholarship is gone. If they want to swim competitively, they can do so for fun rather than their education depend on it.

That said, COVID proved what many have said all along that athletic scholarships cost the school next to nothing. They could add mens sports to keep title 9 balanced, but we all know they would likely just cut 85 women's schollys.

I hate this.
I really, really, really wanted Battle back.

The way he finished the year..it's like Johnelle who?
No way Johnelle Davis can out-do what Khalif Battle has already shown in the SEC.

At the end of the SEC tournament, if you tell me we have 20+ regular season wins. 1-2 Tourney wins, and want to put us in the 2-4 seed window? I'd be absolutely perfectly happy with that.

Quote from: bennyl08 on Yesterday at 10:26:51 pmI'm talking about if it happened right now or even last year, but I agree. ACC has a good a chance of existing in 5 years time as the PAC has a chance of reforming with the same teams.

That leaves the Big 12 in a potentially interesting predicament. They are full of teams that are too good honestly to be part of the G5, but not good enough to be part of the P2. Plus, most of those schools don't exactly have a big connection or loyalty to the Big 12 so it could easily splinter and fracture too.

As for the other sports, I agree, and honestly, most sports, IMO, would be better off going back to the 'club' type of mentality. I'm of the opinion that no state funds/taxpayer funds, or student fees should go to athletics. Unless that swim coach is willing to give swim lessons to EVERY student, etc... Heck, not to pick on swim, but according to

https://swimswam.com/want-to-earn-the-big-bucks-be-a-d1-head-swim-coach/

even the 50-100th ranked swim coaches (ranked by salary) still have a median salary of 100k a year. Is that really necessary? Sure, if they bring in tons of money then by all means. But if their salary is coming from football money, taxpayer money, or student fees, then absolutely freaking not.
