Part of our coaches were stuck in an elevator at half time.

Improvement in most areas.....not meaning to sound critical, but our QB still stares down primary and throws behind receivers, of course receivers have to catch the ones in their breadbasket.  No placekicker this year??  Defense much improved with exception of secondary......still cannot cover or tackle.  Overall our depth killed us second half.  We will win some games this year and are moving in the right direction!!

According to tweets by Tom Murphy of the ADG and Mike Irwin, the coaches who were up in the booth were stuck in an elevator at half time and did not make it to the locker room.   How does something like that happen in an SEC stadium?

Easy.  It's a SEC stadium at Auburn.  They made good use of that trick to start the 2nd half.

BPsTheMan

here's one fact related to the elevator issue - Auburn fan comments on different online stories about it, and on other boards, are 100% cynical and hateful towards our staff

no mention of how Auburn should at least apologize and take some responsibility

it was 21-21 and our coaches didn't get to make adjustments on offense. You cannot draw up x's and o's over the cell phone.

I was not blaming anyone just summing up  the excuses that most on Hogville use as factors in us losing.

Instead of summing up all your life, how 'bout weighing in on points being made...?

Quote from: ScottFaldonI walked down rather than waiting for the lone elevator last night at the end of the game. I followed Scarbinksy, since he knew the quickest route. We walked down a few levels on a ramp until we reached the bottom level of seats, then we walked down an aisle through the bleachers to reach the field. Took about five minutes.

Also, it's not the home coaches responsibility to hold the elevator. Every school has an employee (usually a little old lady) who works as an elevator attendant. They sit right by the control panel and run the show. Since the lone elevator at Jordan-Hare serves the press box, the upper deck and the suites, it's usually a 20-30 minute wait to get up to the box. One of the worst set-ups in the SEC.
Thanks, Scott, for the clarification. Had no idea that the coaches went the same route as media guys to get down onto the field. The one thing I did enjoy about Jordan-Hare was how quick/easily we can get down to the field itself.

And yes, I'm right there with you on the one lone elevator for the upper levels. When you have a smaller press box (Such as Centennial Bank Stadium), it's not as big of a deal to wait. When you're at a press box the size of J-H's, yeah, that's a big deal there.

Nick Saban is held up by just about everyone as the benchmark for college head coaches in the 21st century.

We all know Saban's attention to detail. And we all know Saban's temper.

How would he have reacted to his coaching staff being stuck in the elevator for the entire half?

There would be some open, well-directed wrath, and this would be a much bigger story.

5 little pigs

It is just slightly more than "curious" all the "coincidences" game week and day....QB truck burns, clock issues, elevator issues.....on and on, it's always something at Auburn.  Couple years ago TD removed due to replay officials with eye issues.....no excuses, we are short on depth and Auburn is/was the more talented team yesterday, but funny how things changed drastically in second half....???????

BPsTheMan

They weren't stuck in an elevator for an entire half.

The elevator wasn't held for them at halftime they did the math and realized they didn't have time to make it to the locker room on foot and went back to the coaches' box. From there, they got on the phone with the other coaches.

they were stuck out of the locker room for the entire half because of the elevator

Are you shortening halftime to half?

you're acting like a 3 year old here

the culmination of the events kept them out of the locker room

Yeah the clock was intentional by Gus so we wouldn't be able to burn max time..
Then the elevator was of course to throw a wrinkle in our halftime strategy.
Gotta hand it to Auburn.  They find ways to cheat we never thought of.

Just awesome.  Auburn didnt beat Arkansas fairly; they cheated by making sure the game clock wouldnt work and the elevators got stuck.

Had nothing to do with 600 yards off offense or holding Arkansas to less than 55 yards and 0 points in the second half.

What changed drastically in the second half was coaching.

And Nick Marshall.

Nick Marshall did not do much of anything in that game. Auburn's defense in the 2nd half was the difference. Marshall accounted for 69 yards of offense. Auburn only passed for 50 yards in the 2nd half. He also had 8 carries for 19 yards and his one highlight the 19 yard run for a TD. So basically his other runs were for zero yards. If Auburn had a offensive hero in the second half it was Payne.

While I'm not making excuses, I wouldn't even probably type this if hyper chew job above wasn't still blabbing.  Why is it that auburn always has extenuating circumstances around their program and when they win.

This is not an excuse for losing the game.
But it is a reflection of Auburn's program and coach.

No stairs, just ramps that wind back and forth on the way up and down. I've made that trip from the Auburn press box to Arkansas locker-room many times. It's 10-15 minutes depending on the crowd.

After the game I tried to use the elevator. First of all it's the size of a broom closet.
Also there is luxury seating above the press box. Every time the door opened it was packed to the gills with Auburn fans headed down. I don't know if that's what happened to the coaches but we're talking to Jim Chaney and Robb Smith this evening. I'll find out.

They did manage to rig up a cell phone to some speakers for Chaney to address the players. Still this is not the Yankee Doodle conference. The infrastructure at Jordan-Hare stadium is out of date. War Memorial blows it away.

this is surprising since cbb simulates things to prepare for each game.

Thanks for the info, its too bad some sec stadiums are outdated in some respects. Still sounds like hogs coaches did their best then.

It's naïve to think this didn't have some effect.  First game and you don't quite have a routine yet.  A tied game and big opponent has to make it hypersensitive and a bit stressful.  I don't lay the second half egg totally at the feet of this accident, but I do some.

Coaches have a routine just like players do.

I do think it was preventable if the desire was there as hosts.  I bet there are some kind of procedural rules to make sure it doesn't happen to the next SEC opponent that comes to the stadium.

Anyone ever see the police get the ref's out of there in record time?  They escort them off the field at the half and post game. You'd think coaches at halftime would get similar consideration.

Bebop

What are the chances of something like this happening?

Mike Irwin

Jim Chaney said tonight that the booth coaches actually got stuck somewhere between the press box and the ground level in one of the two elevators on the home side of Jordan-Hare.

By the time workers got the elevator running again he said it was too late to make it to the locker-room.

He said he wasn't mad and he said it had no bearing on the outcome of the game although he did say it's important for the booth coaches to be able to talk to the players and other coaches face to face at halftime. He also said before Saturday he'd never missed getting to a locker-room at halftime.

Doug

Mike and Scott, the one thing I hated about the Press Box (aside from the lone elevator) was the fact that I got a call from the 80s. They wanted their style back. SO damn dated.

I have to admit I thought this was a joke someone made that later was taken seriously. (i.e., we played so bad in the 2nd half our coaches must've got stuck in the elevator). Then I found out they weren't joking!

Odds where Auburn was going to win! Yes I was rooting for us to win. But it's pathetic they fill they have to stack the odds in there favor! 1.Time clocks not working.  2. Playing all Thugs that any other school would have benched the entire game. 3. Shut down the elevator with Ark coaches in it so they can't get to the team at half time.
They would have won the game with out all that!

it's pathetic. A school like that can't afford to have there equipment working? Awful convenient! I may be wrong but that program is dirty!
The truth always comes out. It takes time but it comes out.

I worked with a BAMA graduate a few years ago and our passion for college football we became friends. He told me at least 4 years ago how the Auburn programs where and at the time I wrote it off to in state rivalry.
Well before I game he called me to wish us the best and last thing he said was watch cause they will do anything to win. He said if we are playing them close at half they will come up with another way to cheat.
DANG he was right!

So (per Mike, above)

The elevator dedicated to booth coaches broke.  Obviously it was working earlier.  The Auburn stadium workers could "get it going again" in a few minutes ... but too late for the Ark coaches to make it the locker room, and back up (a first in Chaney's career).

Now, this at their first home game of the year.  A well-playing Arkansas team holding them to a tie at half, because our offense was rolling over them.

Broke!  It broke at that moment.  Then was fixed in a "few" minutes.  But too late for our offensive coaches.

Anyone that thinks that wasn't a premeditated screw job, has likely paid cash for the Brooklyn Bridge in the past.   ::)

Show some class? That is a concept that YOU guys should try in defeat. I have never seen so much crying and projection and excuse making on a year in year out basis. I am here strictly for the lulz. Your board has been a constant source of comedy shared amongst the AU family for weeks now.
I spent a week in Auburn before the game. I never ran into anyone like you. People were helpful and friendly. No popping off. No "friendly" advice. Just the kind of people you like to sit down and talk to.

For whatever reason message boards attract the goobers. You are one of them. The typical Auburn fan I met last week would be embarrassed that one of their own felt the need to come on a Razorback message board and do what you're doing.

Go find a Bama board. They'd love to see you.
