For Christmas, my wonderful bride got me a gift card to begin online ground school. It is something that I have always wanted to do, but I have put off, reluctant to spend the money and time, especially with a house full of kids.
Now that I am in my mid 50s, we just finished building our dream house, and our youngest is about to graduate HS, it is time.

Pray for me and this new adventure. I will try to update my progress if anyone is interested.

Keep us updated. It's never too late to start. Don't get frustrated if it doesn't come as natural to you as it does the 18yo kids.

It's going. Just not as fast as I would hope. Still working through online ground school. I will try to get into the air after we get back from spring break.

We are coming out of our busy season at work, so I will have more time.

Hope you get in the air soon.  Ground school works better when you are also flying and applying.  The written test is easy though.  The ASA test prep book uses actual test questions and is all you really need to pass.

They are probably teaching you how to use an E6B.  Pretty sure you still need it for the written test.  You'll never pick it up after that.  It's good to understand all the calculations and where they come from, but once you start flying you'll use foreflight and it calculates everything for you.  I don't even think I have an E6B and my paper charts expired years ago.

If you don't have a mini Ipad, you'll want to get one.  Everything goes in foreflight.  I don't even bother with a paper log book any more.
