You miss the boat.  A four team playoff is a championship.  A championship produces... a champion. You seem to be looking for the "best" team.  The "best" doesn't exist. Best does not equal champion.  Best is a myth.
Opinion polls produce... opinions.

At least 7 conference wins --> SEC West championship --> Honest refs

A bunch of lucky breaks. We'll need an even year where we get Bama and LSU at home and they'll both need to be on some kind of downturn or probation.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

...win the SEC-w....we are still climbing the hill.  You have to climb the hill and look
over the hill to see the promise land....our reputation here at Arkansas is that
we start gaining traction and moving up the hill but before we get there,

we shoot our own selves in the foot, or feet, then we start over.

Back to back years of highly rated in state kids committing. A dynamic player at RB and QB. A defense in the top 1/2 of the league. Some lucky breaks. A down year by Alabama.

Luck, breaks, honest refs, a good home schedule and staying the course- both with continuity in the staff and the scheme.

Things are kind of stacked against us but with our AD and HC we have a chance.

Better big game coaching (Bielema lost 2 Rose Bowl games for a reason)

Better recruiting (will need to sign at least 1 Top 15 ranked in the nation recruiting class)

No injuries to key players.

Bielema also won two Big Championship games for a reason. One of those they scored 70 in an were major underdogs.

But I'm sure you didn't mention that because it didn't meet your agenda.

Truth is we would need the top 6 SEC teams to all be hurting for some reason during the same season and that is near impossible to attain.  MO came onboard at just the right time to find the SEC east sucking eggs and they looked good for a couple of years.  But that didn't get them a Championship cause the West Champ took care of business.

We need teams to fall back because we are not going to step up that far.  When things get really tough, we usually call a few stupid plays and that takes care of that.

So we need a weak conference in general except for us, Luck, Luck Luck.  No games where we must make the best decisions or lose and a decent ball club for us.

Top 15 recruiting classes don't equate to SEC championships in the SEC West. One top 15 recruiting class wouldn't do anything. LSU and Bama are top 5 recruiting class year in and year out.

So, what you need, if you're not Bama or LSU, is pretty simple. You need a once in a lifetime talent at QB and a championship level defense. I think we're getting closer and closer to fielding a championship level defense. If we had a DB or two step up, we'd be looking pretty good.

As far as getting a once in a lifetime level QB... it's a loto ticket. Cross your fingers.

Our coaching and recruiting is better than it's been in ages. There are only a couple other coaches in the country who I'd give up Bielema for, that's for sure.

Well classes ranked nationally anywhere from 22-40 won't get it done.  That has been shown by us since we joined the SEC.

It will take at least 1 Top 15 ranked in the nation class.  With Alabama, LSU, Georgia usually being in the Top 10 in the nation with recruiting, a lower tier football program such as ours will have to give ourselves a viable chance with a class that is at least in the Top 15 in the nation.

I am not sure recruiting can ever get any better, too many disadvantages both in our location and demographics

Inclined with those who think we need a downturn in the division plus a once in a lifetime type quarterback

I am 56 and hope I can live to see us win just one but I really have my doubts

Still big game coaching is what you said. Big 10 Championships are Big Games.

Especially when the MSU team CBB beat had Kirk Cousins and L. Bell that we can see are above average players in the NFL

CBB is a better coach than Arkansas has had in a long time.

I dont think we need the best recruiting in the history of our school just to win an sec championship

The injuries comment made sense, so 1 out of 3 aint bad.

Gotta have some special players.   I love the kids we have, but if alex Collins and Jonathon Williams are your best offensive weapons, you're not going to get it done.  I'm not knocking those guys at all and I appreciate everything they gave to this program.  we wouldn't be where we are without them, but you have to have better and if you don't think so look back at the past sec champs and see who their best offensive and defensive players were.  You'll see a lot of those guys doing big things in the league.  You need players on each side of the ball that the other team has no answer for one on  one.

1. Saban retirement
2. A year where 6-2 wins the west.
3. A fluke year where Vandy, KY, or SC win the East.

The year all 3 above line up Hogs are SEC Champs.

Hope our players and coaches don't share in the loser mentality exhibited in this thread.  Know it will not be easy, but I choose to believe it is possible.

:razorback:I am 57 and have been going to games since 1960.  I am a season ticket holder and I guess that I am just too much of a homer.  We might be closer than anyone thinks.  Would you take our 2014 defense if it started the season the way it ended?  Would you take the 2015 offense if it started the season the way it ended it?  The Razorbacks were two plays from 7-1 THIS YEAR (and I know-two from 3-5!).  So we need an above average defense & offense and to make those 4-6 winning plays that are the difference in 11-1 and and 6-6.  Cardinal colored glasses?  ABSOLUTELY!  See you September 3rd! :razorback:

Smokehouse

An historic in-state recruiting class that all stays home, getting Bama and LSU at home when that class is playing as juniors and redshirt sophomores, the Mississippi schools dropping back to their more traditional levels of competence. The latter could easily happen and the second is guaranteed to happen every other year. The first is just a genetic lottery.

It'll help if this happens when Kentucky or Vandy rotates onto our schedule from the east.

Alternatively we could get land some of the big time recruits we've gotten to campus lately and get a lot of really lucky breaks (we'll call this the Auburn path to a championship). We've been competitive in every game lately, so a series of breaks gets us there and anything could happen in the championship game (heck, Nutt could have won one had Fish not fumbled that dang punt). But the first scenario makes the path the easiest we could reasonably have it short of every other program in the west cratering.

Consecutive top ten recruiting classes
How many? Two or more? I think a string of top 15 recruiting classes would get us there.

Your thoughts

Defending a fake punt when the opponent runs it from their own 10 yard line on 4th and long. And letting a punt go when it's going to land over your head and inside your 10.

We do need things to fall in place, but not as so many clowns on here are saying.

Last year's offense and the year's before defense would have been good enough.  So we're not as far off talent wise as some would believe.

But we do need some breaks, with health and scheduling, and just a bit of luck.

It's gonna happen, I'd guess in the next 3-4 years.

We'll be in the playoffs before the BB team makes an elite 8.

When they finally got it going, the 2015 offense was a damn good one. Great run and pass mixture. If you could couple this with the 2014 defense, you'd have a team good enough to win the SEC.

welchog

DMac type RB, 2015 type WRs, a Ferguson type QB, CBB type Oline, Atwater type Safety, Hampton type Dline, Winston type LBs, and a couple of lock down CBs.  Oh, and throw in Steve Little.

SEC > ACC and Southland

The SEC is going to take a big hit in week 1 next season regarding the SEC vs. the ACC aspect.  Ole Miss and Auburn have their work cut out for them in week 1.  Ole Miss and Auburn will be facing too much elite talent in week 1.

There is most likely going to be a statement made to the State of Alabama and a message sent to the team in Tuscaloosa by the team in Orange and White in Jordan-Hare stadium in Auburn in week 1.

Horse hockey. First of all, there is no significant difference between a class ranked 15th and 25th. Secondly, a 15th place recruiting finish this year would have qualified for 8th place in the SEC.

Better recruiting? Yeah, I can hear the clueless yammering on now about how finishing 15 in the country still sucks compared to... :puke: Got to reecrute better.
