Jeez.  As much as I dislike the BCS, that was not the fault of the BCS.  That was the fault of the Big 12 conference and their decision to make the BCS standings the final tiebreaker.  I think the Big 12 will have an issue with them claiming to have the title.

Yes, I agree.  I don't have a huge problem with them claiming the title, but come on.  You should have been in the national title, yes.  You didn't make it because of the screwy system and the fact that you LOST.  If they had gone undefeated and had this problem, then they would have more to whine and scream about in my opinion.

The Big XII's offices are in Dallas, and UT dominates the personnel who work for the conference-- much like the old SWC.    You won't hear a word out of the conference offices about this.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Fair enough.  I can't say I'm aware of the personnel that staff the Big XII offices, but I do see this as a "Wahhh" maneuver by the Longhorns...not that UT cares what I think, but still.

It was one of the big hangups in the formation of the Big XII-- where the conference offices would be.   Nebraska and Colorado wanted them in Kansas City or Denver, Texas wanted them in Dallas, and OU was pretty neutral.   Finally, everyone caved to Texas' demands.

Interesting...so was the placement of the Big 12 championship game in Kansas City a sort of 'compromise' to alleviate Nebraska and Colorado's concerns?

Keep in mind that Kansas City has only hosted the Big XII Championship Game 5 times;  indeed, it's moving to Jerry World for 2009 and 2010.

It's been in St. Louis twice, Houston twice, Texas Stadium once, and the Alamo Dome 3 times.

It's just how things have fallen, contractually.

They also have as much influence as anyone else in how the league rules are written.
It was pointed out during the controversy that Texas raised no objection to the tie-breaker when it was created. Why? They're Texas and probably never believed the rule could actually work against them.

Those are hard to get (according to some who then order about 20 extra for friends and family)!

They got rings another year when they tied for the Big 12 South with OU I believe but OU had won the tiebreaker in head to head.

drivetimeporks

maybe they should just post  their 4 national championships on the wall and leave it at that

Sounds as if the 'hornies were inspired by the Hooter a few years back when he revealed those championship rings he bought himself for the Hogs winning the SECW title. Well all know that UT couldn't be "one-upped" by the Dale.

idiotghos

Nice job claiming the overall title when you didn't even win your division.  Why don't they go ahead and declare themselves national champs while they're at it?

As many UT loathers say, "their fans were born on third but think they hit a triple...".  So true.  The arrogance that abounds down on the 40 Acres has no limit.

Bingo.  Each conference (if it is comprised of two divisions and has a conference championship game) decides how its divisions will be represented in that championship game.

I remember someone on ESPN saying that the SEC had a much better system than the Big 12, whereas if the situation that happened last year occurs (3 way tie), then the SEC deems the head-to-head match-up between the top 2 teams to be the tiebreaker if the teams are within 5 spots of each other in the BCS rankings.

For example, if Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are in a 3 way tie for the division title (like UT, TT, and OU were), and Florida was #4, Georgia was #8, and USC was #15, but Georgia beat Florida, Georgia would go to the SEC Championship Game because they won the head-to-head match-up and were less than five rankings down.  Sounds complicated but it's really not, and it's a hell of a lot better than the Big 12's master plan.

They don't need trophies to prove they are champions.  Just ask their baseball coach.

They don't hand out rings for being competitive.  With the players Texas signs every year they should be competing for National Championships every year, not being "competitive" for Big 12 championships.

excuses anyone? ya'll keep wanting to say we are a big time program, but you  spin excuses at every turn....45 years and counting.. should we start a last man club for people alive the last time arkansas won a football title?...you cant hide in the bushes and throw rocks at texas and claim to be top tier... i hate them, but the sobs have 4 nat titles.. thats 1-2-3-4.. 3 more than we have.. and theyre a heckuva lot closer to another than we are...  wanna run with the big dogs, stop cowering on the porch... your skewed perspective doesnt translate to W's

It'd be pretty easy for us to be competitive if half of our schedule was comprised of teams like Baylor, SMU, Iowa State, Rice, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Colorado.  Not to mention that Kansas was a doormat before 2007, and Nebraska isn't the obstacle it used to be.  The SEC and Big 12 aren't very comparable, in that the SEC is top-to-bottom the best conference, while the Big 12 is top heavy and that power is concentrated in the South Division.  Not trying to be irrational, but I would like to see Texas maintain their winning edge if they were in the SEC West, playing Alabama, LSU, and Auburn every year.

Not to throw mud, but are you a Texas fan or something?  I'm all for rational discussion, but it seems to me that you're throwing out a lot of "we suck" talk in addition to continuous defense of UT.  Again, I'm not accusing you of anything, but your degradation of the SEC threw me off a bit.

if any of you had followed my posts over time,( and shame on you for missing out if you havent ) im not an sec rah rah.. why? because my team is arkansas, not lsu, not florida, etc.. i dont get my jollies b/c florida or bama or lsu wins.. i find that irrational..
