I am considering a week trip to Ireland for St. Patrick's day next year.  I'll be back in time to watch the Hogs in the Elite Eight!!

Anyone ever been there?  I'll go just for the beer!!

Sorry about the delay in response;  I live in Dublin.    The Irish don't do Green Beer, or the American style St. Patrick's Day celebration; the best they get is a large parade and everyone taking a day off from work.

Given that St. Paddy's is the 17th of March, it will fall on the Saturday, and due to time differential, if the Hogs were to make it to the Elite Eight, it would be on the 18th, local time.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Thanks for the information.  Maybe you can give us some idea's of what to do while visiting.  My wife and I are planning on staying in Dublin at an apartment or a hotel.  They look a bit pricey, anywhere form 100 to 400 Euro per night.  Any suggestions about accommodations or entertainment would be greatly appreciated!

Dublin is an extremely expensive city, on the whole.   I recommend the Jury's Inn at Christchurch [http://www.jurys-dublin-hotels.com/jurysinn_christchurch] , near the city center, in terms of best balance of location and price.   You'll be within a 10 minute walk of the Guinness Distillery, the Jameson's Distillery, Temple Bar district, Grafton Street, Christchurch,  St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Doyle, most of the major art museums and such,  Trinity College, and most of Touristy Dublin.   St. Patrick's Day is the mark of the beginning of tourist season, so things shouldn't be overcrowded, though some of the summertime events for tourists like the literary pub crawls won't be underway yet.

Meal wise, it will vary on what you want to eat, and where you want to eat.  There are Burger Kings and McDonalds if you have real food emergencies, but beware the local Irish food;  its horrendous--- bland beyond all measure.   If you intend to eat out, it'll run 50 Euro for my wife and I, without drinks.      Given that it'll be March, the weather can be anywhere from a wet November day in Arkansas to a warm December day in Arkansas.

If you can think of any specific questions you might have, I'd be happy to offer comment.
