Last August Stephen Davis Jr. committed to Auburn, where his father was a running back during the 1990s.

During a Nike camp interview with 247Sports Saturday in Charlotte, the four-star safety prospect from Irmo, S.C., indicated that decision may have been a bit premature.

"I think I committed too early," Davis said. "Also, I think they signed a little too many DBs this past year."

The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder added he is currently "70 percent" committed to the Tigers...

"When I take my visits to UCLA and Florida State, if I fall in love it might change," he said. "I think (the Tigers) have a great defense. They have Coach (Will) Muschamp and Coach (Travaris) Robinson. I think they're wonderful coaches. It's just that I want to experience my recruitment a little bit."

Davis earned an invitation to Nike's The Opening after his showing at Saturday's camp. He is ranked as the nation's No. 17 athlete in the 247Sports Composite.

Auburn hosting former Michigan CB Blake Countess, who could boost depleted secondary

After graduating from Michigan last week, the cornerback announced his plans to leave the program for his final season of eligibility. He visited Arizona last week and will be in Auburn Friday through Sunday for an official visit.

"I have heard really good things about Auburn," Countess told Rivals. "I'm really excited to get down there and see what it's all about."

The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder appeared in 38 total games for the Wolverines and made 30 starts...

As a graduate transfer, he will be eligible to play immediately this fall.

Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn recently identified his defensive backfield as a primary concern heading into the season.

Auburn has lost five members of its secondary since January: Mackenro Alexander, Kalvarez Bessent, Kamryn Melton, Derrick Moncrief and Joseph Turner. In addition, Jonathan Jones and T.J. Davis both underwent surgery this spring to repair foot and ACL injuries, respectively...

Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and running backs coach Tim Horton extended an in-state offer Friday during a visit to Bob Jones High School in Madison.

The Tigers became the third SEC program to offer offensive tackle Kendall Randolph, an unranked 2017 prospect.

Randolph also holds offers from Alabama A&M, Eastern Kentucky, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and New Mexico State.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder is the younger brother of Levi Randolph, who just finished his senior season with Alabama's basketball team, and Roderick Randolph, who currently plays football at Alabama A&M.

Four-star quarterback Chase Brice said Tuesday that he has received a scholarship offer from Kentucky for the class of 2017.

Brice — a 6-foot-2 prospect from Loganville, Ga. — also has reported offers from Miami, Louisville, Illinois and a handful of others. Rivals.com analyst Woody Wommack praised Brice's "quick release and accuracy" after a recent tour of Georgia high schools...

Jawon Pass, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound dual-threat quarterback from Carver High School in Columbus, Ga., announced he would commit on July 13.

He told 247Sports that he would have a press conference and that his finalists are Alabama, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Louisville, North Carolina and Florida.

Woody Barrett of Winter Garden, Florida, has verbally committed to Auburn, which gives Gus Malzahn a four-star dual-threat quarterback to look forward to in 2016.

Barrett announced his decision Wednesday during a ceremony at his high school, West Orange High School. Barrett is currently rated three stars by Rivals.com, although he receives a four-star ranking from other recruiting services.

Wenonah defensive tackle Quinnen Williams has decommitted from Auburn.

The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder confirmed the news with AL.com Friday.

"No reason and nothing personal," Williams said. "I just wanted to reopen my recruitment."

Auburn was the first to offer Williams, and he committed to the Tigers Jan. 16. He attended Auburn's A-Day game in April, but skipped the Big Cat Weekend recruiting event Saturday. He participated in Alabama's football camp earlier this week.

Williams is ranked as a three-star prospect and the nation's No. 34 defensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite.

Williams is the third player to decommit from Auburn in the past 30 days, joining five-star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers and three-star defensive end David Marshall. The Tigers picked up commitments from four-star wide receiver Eli Stove and five-star 2017 offensive tackle Calvin Ashley after Big Cat Weekend.

With the loss of Williams, Auburn's 2016 recruiting class has dropped to seven commitments.

Tennessee picked up the 11th verbal commitment for its 2016 recruiting class on Saturday afternoon, when junior college wide Jeff George publicly pledged to the Volunteers while on an unofficial visit to campus.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound George is out of Dodge City Community College in Kansas, where he caught 46 passes for 690 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games last season.

Maggard: Kash Daniel, should he stay or should he go now?

Will Kash Daniel follow the traditional path that former Paintsville greats such as Joey Couch, Tony Mayes, and John Pelphrey blazed by going to ole State U when other suitors came a callin? Historically this has been a no-brainer. In this particular case, I'm not so sure.

Mountain athletes that stayed home have enjoyed UK success. ... Tim Couch (Hyden), Jeremy Caudill (Prestonsburg), with so many more I could name. From Johnson to Fayette County seems like the logical choice. Not so fast...

Daniel has explored leaving the Commonwealth by visiting South Carolina with a trip to Florida on the horizon. Both are a long ways from Paint Creek. Will he eventually go the Harris route and shun the Cats for an SEC foe or even incite chaos by signing with arch rival Louisville? My crystal ball must be broken. Heck, if you can read the minds of 17-year-olds then you are much more adept at this recruiting stuff than I'll ever be. What I do know is that Mark Stoops and his staff will continue to relentlessly pursue the four star linebacker...

The 6-foot-3, 202-pound safety prospect at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., was committed to the Gators for just three months, and the door is now open for Auburn and Notre Dame to possibly make a move.

Alabama and Auburn each have dual-threat quarterbacks committed to their respective 2016 recruiting classes, but adding a second remains a possibility for both programs.

The Tigers landed Orlando's Woody Barrett June 3, while the Crimson Tide picked up Texas standout Jalen Hurts two days later.

Meanwhile, four-star prospect Jawon Pass remains on the board and has narrowed down his final choices to Alabama, Auburn and Louisville. He says he "has a feeling" where he'll end up and isn't letting Barrett or Hurts affect his decision.

QB Jawon Pass chooses Louisville over Alabama, says 'Auburn wasn't going to prepare me for the next level'

Quarterback Jawon Pass made his commitment on Thursday, picking Louisville over Alabama and Auburn at a press conference at Carver High School in Columbus, Ga.

Pass' older brother Khane, a defensive back, signed to play for Louisville in February, and he'll continue the family tradition of playing for the Cardinals.

Pass said he'd attend the University of Louisville "for the next three to four years."

"It's a good fit for me," Pass said. "I've got a good relationship with the coaches and that's just where my heart was at."

Pass took a visit to Alabama earlier this week and narrowed his choices to the three schools in the last week since competing at The Opening in Beaverton, Ore. He made multiple visits to all three schools.

He was asked about how he fit Auburn's offense.

"It fit me better, but I felt like Auburn wasn't going to prepare me for the next level," Pass said.

DE picks Cards over Auburn

Louisville football team received its third recruiting commitment in five days on Monday night from three-star Carrollton, Ga., defensive end Mike Boykin, who picked the Cardinals over Auburn and Clemson.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Boykin strongly considered Auburn especially, having told multiple media outlets as recently as Sunday that the Tigers led. He also visited Kentucky late last week and had considered Florida.

Boykin is rated the No. 70 strongside defensive end nationally, according to 247Sports.com.

Boykin's pledge continues a big recruiting week for Louisville that began with the commitment of four-star quarterback Jawon Pass. U of L also hosted a camp with several visitors on Friday night and gained a commitment from South Carolina linebacker T.J. Brunson.
