Quote from: bennyl08 on Today at 10:37:57 amSome good stuff there, thank you, I do see the difference now. I see an SMU team that has significantly downgraded in talent and a hog team that has made upgrades.

I see an SMU team that even with last year's roster would have struggled to beat bad power teams that is now going to be asked to play them on a regular, consistent basis with an even worse roster.

I see an OL player who wasn't working playing against the big boys who wanted to go play at an easier difficulty level.

It's a good thing I know you don't believe any of the things you post because otherwise, it'd be very sad.

Might want to get your eyes checked. One program is on sold footing and trending up. One is not and recruits see this and is the reason why SMU is filling thier roster with P4 players and Arkansas is filling thiers with G5 players. It's sad to see honestly.

I don't care what people think or believe from me I'm just a poster on a message board. What I do care about is what is in black and white because facts are greater than your feelings.

In 99% of scenarios, you save Hagen for game 2. The first two games are equally important.

Not really sure why we're discussing this now anyway, but I guess we're bored without midweek games

Quote from: Supermark101 on Today at 10:16:10 amWe had some not so great classes mixed in there. This year's freshman class is why you still recruit high school. Also Smoth, Tygart, Wood, and many other pitchers came out of high school.

Hobbs has been much more focused on high school arms he can develop vs. Thompson being much more reliant on the portal.  The three D1 transfers were have pitching wise are Molina, Frank and Hewlett while Carter is the only JUCO guy.

Hitting wise, the only five players with ABs we got out of high school are Stovall, Diggs, Jones, Souza and Helfrick.  All three were top 150 guys according to PG in their class while everyone else was portal / JUCO.  We have quite a few high school signee hitters this year, but only two meet that threshold and Tyson Lewis appears to be a big draft risk now.

Quote from: Hogo Piglitz on Today at 05:26:42 amBrain power Benny you seem to lack it what would 2015 SMU have to do with today's SMU? It doesn't. You are aware arkansas went 4-8  last year and over the last 2 years have had trouble beating much anyone P4 or G5 for that matter. G5 teams aren't supposed to beat P4 teams so I'd say SMU has done well for itself.

See the difference?

Quote from: The NewEra on April 29, 2024, 09:02:30 am18-19-20 year olds making $400,000.00 a year.  You can bet they are telling other buddies on the team what they are making.  Those buddies won't keep it secret.

If a guy is only making $25-50,000.00 a year they probably aren't in a rush to share it with the world.

The crazy thing is there are some GREAT college basketball players who will never play in the nba or have short nba careers.

Some of those kids may end up making hundreds of rhousands of dollars in college - or in the right situation - a high quality senior that just isn't an NBA specimen could get a million + to help put a team over the top in college.

Point being - I really hope these kids are getting great financial advice and investing some of this money for retirement.

If a 22 year old puts $100,000 into a brokerage account and invests it in a broad market fund - and then never saves another dime - even if they never put back another dime - it'll be over $7,000,000 when they retire at age 65 (assuming average S&P type return). Even at a super conservative and meager 5% average return - it'd be over $800,000.

When I was 20 ~ I would not have been smart and done something like this if I had a big payday.

I hope somebody is helping these kids u sweat and how important it is to put money back.

IMHO, the Hogs are getting the benefit of the doubt in the rankings.  Right now, Hagen is peerless, starters 2 & 3 burn through 20+ pitches an inning because they can't find the plate, and our offense is impotent as it's really never been potent more than 2 games in a row in SEC play, it seems.  I hope no more mid-weekers will allow our hitters to get some rest and possibly recharge if burnout is creeping in.  No more easy games this year.
