Transitioning the current roster to a new scheme will be a key success factor for CCM.  For fun, I compared the rosters for Clemson and Arkansas to highlight potential areas of focus in retention, development and recruiting.

Roster Comparison by Position Group:
     Clemson      Arkansas
Offense   52      58
  QB            5      6
  RB            7      6
  TE            8      9
  WR          15      17
  OL          17      20

Defense   57      53
  LB           16      21
  CB           11      20
  S           10
  DL           20      12

Special   7      6

Observations:
-Clemson's roster emphasizes defense (57 vs 52 players on offense)
-Clemson's focus on DL and Safeties
-Clemson's use of TE and H Back vs. Arkansas use of traditional TE.
-Clemson uses fewer OL

Other thoughts?

Some of the guys we're calling LB in a 3-4 Defense will be DE in a 4-3 so that skews those numbers a little. Regardless we need more DLine. I think it would interesting to see the breakdown of how Scholarships are awarded and not just Roster positions. CBB put a big emphasis on walk-on OLine.

I'm a little surprised to see we have more WR than they do.

Thanks for putting the list together.

Goes to show, dominant and deep defensive lines make for successful teams.

Is this today's Clemson or is it comparing 2017 Hogs to 2010 Clemson? (the year before Chad Morris took over each)

Ugly Uncle

This is excellent material.

I would be interested in seeing the break down to this years SMU roster as well.  See if it lines up with what was at Clemson.

2017 Hogs vs 2017 Clemson  (2014 Clemson Chad's year was no different).

he's comparing it to today's clemson to see where we need to be.

Comparing where we are talentwise to that 2011 team would be very interesting. I bet we have as many  4*s on paper as they had.

In looking at some of these numbers, like WR, is there a quantity vs quality question here? Same for other places where we're high—OL, DB. But as was mentioned, you have to have numbers on the DL.

That's what it needs to be in order for the rosters to correlate
That's right, you don't want to be the man to replace the man.  You want to be the man to replace Rory Segrest.

Here are the 2017 Arkansas team directly compared to the 2010 Clemson team (the year before Morris took over at each):

http://myteamsbetter.com/#COMPARE_TEAMS?teamPK1=147&teamPK2=31&year1=2010&year2=2017&statView=Key%20Stats&compareOption=ALL_OPPONENTS

They are actually pretty comparable with Clemson getting the slight edge overall.

If you want to look at individual stats per team, here are the 2017 Hogs: https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/arkansas/2017.html

..and here are the 2010 Clemson Tigers: https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/clemson/2010.html

For recruits, I went back and looked at the 24/7 recruiting data and counted the 4/5 star players in each class for the four previous years of recruiting before Chad Morris took over:

Clemson
2010: 5
2009: 5, 1
2008: 10
2007: 4

Total 4 stars: 24
Total 5 stars: 1

Arkansas
2017: 4
2016: 5, 1
2015: 7
2014: 4

Total 4 stars: 20
Total 5 stars: 1

Man, he wasn't kidding when he said he saw a lot of similarities to Clemson before he took over to the Hogs before he took over. Very similar teams in terms of recruits and ability between 2010 Clemson and 2017 Arkansas.

Note, if you just want to look at offense (since Morris was just the OC at Clemson), 2017 Arkansas is starting from a better position than 2010 Clemson was:

If you want to look at just Clemson offense pre-Morris (2010) and after he had been there 4 years (2014), you can see how much they improved:

I can't put a lot of faith in lists like this because it could vary from year to year, even on the same team.

This is great stuff.  I think Bielema recruited better than we acknowledge and he was a good at evaluating talent for his style.  He was also good with retention, so Morris isn't stepping into the wasteland many think he is.  He still needs to get his type of players, and those here will need to learn his system, but I think we're in better shape than some realize.

Hogs49ers

I see the value of comparing to Clemson's roster, but I feel like the best comparison and a best idea of what we would expect the numbers to be like here would be to last years 2016 SMU roster because CCM could have adapted a little since his time in Clemson and bc this would be the first time where the entire vision was his rather than Dabo's at Clemson.  I would assume their vision is pretty similar though.

EDIT:  I just noticed that you already posted to SMU comparison.
