Just goes to show anything can happen on any given night. MSU was a 24 point favorite going into this game against 1-8 Texas Southern. They are going into OT. Texas Southern had a 1 point lead with 14 seconds left, but fouled MSU. MSU will likely pull it out, but still a crazy game.

Miami got boatraced today

Eastern Kentucky beat a 9-1  and #18 ranked Miami,  *at Miami*, by 28 today.

28.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

That was yesterday, but that was definitely a shocking result as well. I think that one is probably the most shocking result so far this season.

Texas Southern now up 5 with the ball 1:30 left in OT.

#23 Butler lost to Indiana today, but that is not as big of an upset.

Yeah;  Indiana is a  tough team to get a read on;  Crean needs to win soon.

Yeah Texas Southern just won. What happened to MSU this year? You'd think they'd be able to recruit well enough that you wouldn't have a dramatic drop off from one year to the next

FIRE IZZO!!!! That style of ball just doesn't work any more.

Which proves anybody can beat you. so this meltdown over the Clemson game needs to stop. it was a game we threw away. but it happens. it's college basketball.

The meltdown should not stop!  You clearly are not a good coach if you lose on the road to an inferior team!  You are a terrible coach for even scheduling a HBCU much less losing to them at home!  <sarcasm>

You sure don't want to play them in the NCAAT.

Yeah.  SMU is really going to be hurt by their inability to defend their home court, no matter the winning streak they go on now.

What's lost in all these losses is this isn't the 90s. During that time you could go off of Name alone. Parity is crazy in today's game. Its true anyone can't beat you anytime. The way the Hogs normally play in Verizon was snuffed out tonight, that game was never in doubt.

Losing gracefully isn't taught in second-tier programs. See Arkansas, Cincinnati, et al.

Funny seeing the comparisons between Michigan State and Arkansas. Michigan State has been the definition of consistency in basketball while Arkansas hasn't been to a tourney since 2008. Arkansas needs to prove it can win on the road consistently, Michigan State doesn't.

Dr. Starcs

Great points Ham Ham, but this is going to happen every time a good team loses a game. Just get used to it. Lol

If anything, it is even worse that Michigan lost to Texas Southern for the exact reasons you said.

Michigan State has a lot more problems this year than Arkansas does if you really want to compare the two. They are going to struggle in the Big 10 more than likely, although the Big 10 is really not that great this season. As a program, Michigan State is light years ahead of us. As a team, we are better than MSU.

Not comparing the programs, comparing the losses to bad teams

I don't get the argument that, because a program has been more consistent over a period of time, that having a bad loss isn't the same as Arkansas having a bad loss. Both Michigan State and Arkansas are projected tournament teams. However, MSU's loss (at home, no less) is much worse than Arkansas losing at Clemson. Clemson is no where near as bad as schools like NJIT, Texas Southern, Eastern Kentucky, etc. that are picking off projected tournament programs. I get that losing to Clemson gives cause for concern that we will struggle on the road, but we also did beat an SMU team that, even without Kennedy, is still likely better than Clemson. Bad losses tend to happen in non-conference play because teams haven't felt themselves out yet. I don't see need a to jump to the conclusion that we "haven't changed" on the road, because last season and early this season have shown that we probably have changed (for the better).

I agree and even made the same point in a couple other threads in regards to SEC teams losing some games to cupcake teams. Arguments were being made that because of that the SEC is once again terrible even though the SEC has the #1 SOS and #3 in the RPI. Apparently other conferences are having issues as well....not Just the SEC.
