How are things looking for him playing next year?  I really think he's going to be the x-factor going into next year.  Former Top 100 player with a year in the system, even without game time, would be huge.

Fyi: he was top 60 and a 4 star on ESPN.

It's a big if but if we can get some outside production next year we can be deadly!! Because Embery, and Harris are two good point guards and I think that will quit all the standing around.

Embery is not a point guard. He is a combo guard like Barford or Macon.

Gotta love an athletic 6'5" combo guard

We don't stand around much at all.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

It would be awesome if he was cleared to play.

I may have missed it but has he been allowed to practice at all?

Haven't heard anything but I did not think it was a good sign that he was redshirted after they've known about this condition for some time. I believe we first heard about it last summer. I could be ignorant here, but that was my read. I took the decision to redshirt as no progress was made but they weren't ready to fully declare him medically unfit.

Just FYI, they said he is red-shirting this year, regardless if he his cleared or not.

Would love to see a 3 guard lineup next year with Embery, Joe, and Garland.  All long guards.  Hope he can play

heard Sills can light it up too, plus we got CJ Jones back hope he can improve his shooting, but I figure Hall will play the 3 position

At the PK80, Bill Walton spoke very highly about Garland's practices.

There are two respected writers that say they think that Garland will not play for the U of A. hope they are wrong.

Reggie Chaney is a beast. You can check out his highlights on YouTube.

Still hasn't responded to the meds...he's our Len Bias and we will probably never see him on a college basketball court.

Cheney is good, but isn't going to be an instant impact player like Gafford. Hell be a nice program kid, but I wouldn't expect too much from him next year.

I think that's the case with most of the incoming guys. Joe may have the biggest impact day 1 sounds like. They should all develop into solid 4 year players. The day 1 stud is going to M$U instead.

I could see 8 points and 5 rebounds a game from Chaney next year, especially if he plays a lot next to Gafford.

Let's hope that Gafford doesn't continue to look like the Gafford of the last 3 games:

3.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2 total blocks, and 11 fouls.

You can only apply for a hardship if you have burned your redshirt.

IF it is indeed cardiomyopathy, meds won't fix this. Meds only suppress symptoms of heart failure.

I would beg to differ, especially in our scoring lulls. Our movement is very predictable at least.

There's a vast difference  between predictable motion offense, and a lack of motion.

Of course its going to be predictable.  Its *supposed* to be.   The player makes a read, and automatically options to an action.

The real problem is people mistake missing shots or losing games for being offensively inactive.

Ineffectiveness is only *sometimes* contingent on a lack of movement.   And for us, its fairly rare-- bad shoot selection is what kills our motion offense.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. But shouldn't a good motion offense result in more good shot selection shots?

I really have no problem with the premise of our free-flowing motion offense. It's what basketball is going to nowadays and should allow players to utilize their skills optimally. However, IMO, Mike doesn't demand attention to details in his motion offense principles. Our offense looked really good for the most part in non-conference because we are able to out-athlete people and get to prime scoring positions with little resistance. However, when we've played teams with great halfcourt defense (UNC and most SEC teams) we really struggle getting good movement and get in good scoring spots.

When you're playing great halfcourt defenses, you have to be very disciplined in your motion principles. You have to set good screens, you have to set your screener up, you have to catch the ball in a good triple threat position. We usually go to the dribble weave with a Macon or Barford half used pick and roll shot.

Our Len Bias? Bias died from cardiac arrythmia induced by a cocaine overdose. While it is true that we may never see him on a college basketball court, this is a totally different issue. Still there remains a chance, however slight, that the treatment may work and he can suit up for us next year. Got my fingers crossed!

IF he has the condition that someone earlier posted , Wolf Parkinson White Syndrome, I pray that he never steps on the court.  Doctors will tell you that they've FIXED IT.  Then it reappears suddenly at the most inopportune times.

Not necessarily, no.    You can do your job, and still not get good shots.      Failure is not synonymous with not doing what you are supposed to be doing.

Sometimes you do the exact right thing, and it doesn't pan out.  That's basketball- and life.

I pretty much agree with all of this. Making shots covers up all your warts in basketball. You can be bad on D...Run poor offense...etc...but if you shoot the lights out, people will think you played great.

I do disagree that motion offense is predictable. The whole reason coaches run motion is that it is not scoutable. There is no guaranteed outcome of a certain action. It's 100% reliant on reading your man and how he gets through a screen or defends a cut. Basically, he goes this way then you go that way.

All of the arguments we are having would likely go away with some better recruiting. We are having to rely on too many guys who have massive holes in their game. There are several guys who have been in the program for multiple years, and I'm still wondering what they do well on the basketball court? CMA has to do better than some of these guys who play major minutes with nothing to show for it.
