The Bengals haven't figured this out.  I think that's why some great college coaches (Holtz, Spurrier, and Saban for example) can't get it done in the NFL.  It a "me" league, not an "us" league.  When coaches don't control the players, this happens.

Adam Jones has been with the Bengals for 7 years with little issues.  No clue what Joey Porter was doing on the field. He was surrounded by about 6 Bengals who all were ready to fight him.  It was a bizarre and wild 4th quarter. I loved it. If Jeremy Hill holds on to the ball like he is supposed to, Bengals win and Burfict is a hero.  Football is great.

Firing Marvin Lewis might happen.  Any time he goes another season without a playoff win is another reason to let him go, even without Dalton playing.

I was pulling for the Steelers last night. Not because they're my favorite team in the league, just that match up. I can't remember a time I've been more riled up over a game that I didn't have a vested interest in. In an era when people are trying to wimpify the league, players act this way and show why we need to. Brown's (the player) injury could have been a permanent disabling type. That was an intentional attempt to injure. Burfict needs to be made an example of, before someone gets killed.

Not excusing the bengals behavior in ANY way, but Hines ward was as dirty as they get as a player.

And remember mike tomlin looking at the video screen and "accidentally" getting in the way of an opposing player.

You make a good point. Often when there is a targeting call people complain about turning the game into touch football. But if you don't call the NFL closely, you will get what happened last night when it appears that there is no control.

This is the first full NFL game that I have watched in a long time, like 4 or 5 years. For the lack of a better word, I could not believe how many "thugs" were on each team. It seemed after every play there was always something going on, like ripping ball out after the guys was down and pushing someone down after the play was long over. The Steelers players dancing on the sideline after they knocked the running back out got nothing, but two guys dancing in the endzone after a touchdown is a 15 yard penalty, what? Maybe this is the reason I don't watch the NFL anymore.

I was about to create a thread also. I absolutely can't believe how they blew this game. Unreal. They have two absolute thugs on defense that cost them 30 yards with two penalties on that final drive. Both Burfict and Jones are thugs. No way I would want those guys on my team especially Burfict. He is an absolute thug and should be banned from football before he kills somebody on the field.
I had a friend a few years back who played at Arizona State with Burfict, all he ever talked about was how much of a loose cannon Burfict was.  He's a brilliant talent, but waaay more trouble than he's worth.

I don't think you guys realize how much animosity there is between the Steelers and Bengals.  Having lived in Cinci and been a Bengals season ticket holder, I witnessed it firsthand.  When the bengals sucked the stadium would be half full of steelers fans waving their damn terrible towels, talking trash and causing a ruckus.  Then you had guys like Hines Ward and Joey Porter playing dirty on the field

Every time the bengals would make the playoffs they always seemed to get the Steelers at home and would lose.  Once not only losing the game but Carson Palmer to a dirty hit and Chris Henry on the same play on the first drive of the playoff game.

Plus, how can a person overlooking the Steeler's player spearing the Bengals running back in the face mask with the crown of his helmet and then celebrating on the sideline while he lay on the ground.  Or how about earlier in the game when the same player launched up to hit Eifert helmet to helmet without a penalty called.

If the Bengals had been playing any other team there would not have been any issues whatsoever.  But, when it comes to the steelers, they hate each other.

This post reeks of homer bias. Majority of neutral observers (myself included) can easily see Pacman jones and especially Burfict are big time thugs and the actions were obvious. The Bengals organization needs to learn to keep those dogs on a leash, in my opinion.

The Bengals lost that game because of a few personal vendettas...comical to see that idiot Burfict running with the ball celebrating like the game was over after the interception only to ultimately lose the game for his team because of a personal vendetta. He's lucky he didn't seriously hurt or kill that guy. Hope it was worth it.

Sounds like your opinion is biased. Is it the Steelers fans fault that you can't sell out your stadium? Evidently they weren't the fans that were throwing items on the field last night. Did you see Burfict try to take Ben's knees, out earlier this year, and on purpose. The hit on Antonio Brown could have ended his career. There's much evidence of Burfict being dirty besides the Steeler's as well. Pacman has had troubles since entering the league. If the Eifert call, or lack of was bad, its peculiar there was no mention of it during or after the game. Shazier's hit on Bernard was borderline, but not blatant. The rb had made a move so he was not defenseless, unlike Antonoio. Take off off your Bengal striped glasses.

Vantage 8 dude

As is usual both teams to one degree or another contributed to the whole situation. Several times when Steeler players were guilty of some actions that weren't exactly part of a clean game. However, in the end it was the Bengals that really blew it. BTW remember that even before the game, and certainly during it, the NFL had apparently made it very clear that there would NOT be a repeat of an earlier game this season between these two when there were several players fined/suspended due to fouls and penalties. The refs were going to do everything they could to keep the cheap shots and other such nonsense from getting out of hand again.

First of all, to show your rear as the Cincy fans did when it came to Roth's injury-talking about the throwing of trash, etc. was totally disgraceful. While I understand there's no love lost at all between these two teams and there's been a bitter history between the two, common sportsmanship holds that you don't cheer when an opposing player is injured and you certainly don't throw garbage at them when they're being carted off.

Secondly, under the circumstances all Cincinnati had to do was keep its cool on defense and very likely the game would have been decided by their ability to stop Pittsburgh from driving down to field goal range. However, as we all saw, that was NOT to be the case. First, we have a totally flagrant and unnecessary targeting personal foul of the Steeler WR. It wasn't a "perhaps" or even a border line play; it was an out-and-out "go for the kill" shot. Then to compound the whole issue ole Adam Jones bumps an official even while the targeting penalty was being settled and the injured receiver was being assisted off the field. Talk about DUMB and MINDLESS!

Nope, at the end of the day the Bengals have absolutely no one to blame but themselves. Had they just kept their emotions under control long enough to finish the game they very likely would have been preparing to travel to Denver this next weekend to further their journey in the playoffs. Now they only have themselves to blame as a team and as individuals for this meltdown of epic proportions.

That was embarrassing by the Bengals, Burfict was shoving and punching players each down. He got his.

I was about to ask if he wasn't the one who negated a great defensive play earlier in the game.

For those thinking the Jones penalty should not have been called, you simply don't run through a referee mouthing and pointing. It should and will get called every time. Twice when the players have been cheap the entire game. The refs didn't decide the game. The classless lack of self control of the players did.
oh shut up... He was yelling to get a coach from the other team out of his teams huddle. Joey Porter was running his mouth and should've been the one flagged. Watch ESPN or better yet, listen to the radio today. One guy agreed with you today. One. Everyone else said Porter shoulda been flagged. Shouldn't have even been there.

It's funny how the steelers coach pulled a Bengals players hair and shoves another one. A steelers linebacker hits helmet to helmet.  It the Bengals end up the "dirty" team.   Bengals weren't any better, but to call 1 team out and not the other, doesn't make any sense.

PORKULATOR

I have no loyalty to either team so I'm unbias here. A ton of friends and family are Steelers fans though, but in my opinion, that flag was bogus.
Burficts flag was only thrown because the we ducked into it and the hit was so violent. I thought he knocked him smooth out.

I think you are learning today just how much Mike Zimmer was responsible for the rise of the Bengals from their Bungles roots to a playoff caliber team.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

As a Steelers fan, I too, wonder why Porter was even on the field and wasn't flagged. However, Jones making contact with the officials is going to get you flagged every time. Now, no telling what was being said or had been said throughout the game. The Cincy fans cheering when Big Ben was injured, that happens from fans of opposing teams, especially in a very heated rivalry like this one is. But both teams had players/coaches show their arses last night.

I always attributed the Hines Ward hate to jealousy.  I think most serious football fans would love to have had him.  Best down field blocker the game has possibly ever seen at the WR  position.  Would he put a Crack back block on someone's ass when he got the chance? Heck yes he would and I loved it.  When people like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are trying to remove your head all game you take a shot when. You get it.  Also for the majority of his career I don't think the Crack back was an illegal play.
Let's make some waves.

hogsanity

If Burfict is not a thug then he is a moron. 4th down, pass is no where near brown, and he hits him high and late when the game is over. His history of late, unnecessary hits tells the tale that he is a thug.

Adam Jones made his bed when he was first in the league, he was a problem, and he was always going to carry that label.

The meltdown started with running the ball after the pick with 1:30 left. If the plan is to run the ball 3 times, make PB use their to's then kick a FG, just kneel on it 3 times and kick the Fg. If you are going to try to make a 1st down to run the game out, then do not run up the middle where 9 of Pitts 11 defenders are waiting trying to strip the ball. Coaches have become absolutely terrified about trying to score td's late for the killer score. Saw it yesterday in the Mn game. They drive to the 10 the are satisfied with just kicking a Fg, like it is automatic, when they could keep trying to score a td.

But undisciplined play has been a problem for the Bengals for years, and it cost them Sat night.

Pretty well true, but I'm still wondering if Adam Jones really deserved that 15 yard penalty that put the Steelers in FG range.  Seemed unnecessary to me.
By that point the refs were frustrated and angry.  They were looking for a reason to punish somebody for the out of control nature of the game.  PacMan and Burfict are easy targets.

That thought is where someone on the Bengals has to step up grab his teammates and get as far away as possible.  Even with the penalty on Burfict, the Steelers are out of timeouts and are facing either trying another play to get closer for a fg, which is dicey with no to's, or trying a long fg in the rain/wind on a wet field.

I am just tired of the reactions and over reactions we see 10-20 times in every game. If they let me make 1 rule it would be that anyone making the throw a flag gesture automatically got a 15 yard penalty on themselves, that would be it. Every time now that a receiver gets touched on a ball he does not catch, he jumps up making that gesture, and it has filtered all the way down to JRHS.

Then of course there is stupidity of making a spectacle. Late in the Texans destruction Sat one of the Texans got a sack and gets up strutting with his team down 20+ and getting absolutely embarrassed. I'd fine him if I were the Texans.
