defensive coordinator at ARKANSAS STATE!!!

Arkansas State: AStateNation.com is reporting that former Ole Miss safeties coach Keith Burns and former Memphis co-defensive coordinator / defensive line coach Mike Dubose have each interviewed with Gus Malzahn for the defensive coordinator job.  I am told Burns would gladly pass on coaching in the Casino del Sol all-star game in mid-January if offered the job.

Can you imagine going from Nutt's staff to Malzahn's.  The above quote was taken from the "coaching search ticker" site.

I don't have a problem with KB....won a Rose Bowl as DC with USC...is a Don Lindsey disciple (another AR guy that won a Rose Bowl as DC of USC).  KB is the last DC to have the hogs total D to be around 300/game while in the SEC.  It hasn't been that low since....14 years.

A poster on The Den said that John Thompson may interview for the position. He turned Freeze down and recomended Dave Wommack last year.

I was impressed with KB on the OM sideline this year......

He was constantly teaching and their DB's seemed to respond well.....first Nutt team in a long time to have a DB turn and look for the ball.....

    Coach Search is reporting that Burns has imerged as the leading contender for the job.  On paper looks like a good hire.  As pointed out above, a successful DC at usc and at ua.  After a diasterous 3 years as Tulsa head coach, he was at San Jose for 5 or 6 years and then spent 2010 as a postion coach at K State.  Was reunited with Houston Nutt for the memorable 2011 season at Ole Miss.  Malzahn said he intended to play an agressive style of defense.  My recollection of  Burns would make that a fit.

We just scored 47 points and ran up over 600 yards on his defense this year...why on earth would we hire him?
