A handful of games have already been confirmed — including the school's participation in the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn — but the nonconference part of the schedule is weeks away from being completed, LSU associate athletic director Eddie Nunez said Thursday.

"We still have some openings that we're trying to finalize at this point," said Nunez, who handles scheduling for men's basketball. "We hope to have the entire nonconference schedule finished in the next three weeks. That's our goal, so we can send it off to the SEC office."

Nunez acknowledged a series with the University of Houston is one that's in the talking stages...

One of the highlights of LSU's schedule is a date in the four-team Legends Classic to be played Nov. 23-24 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The games will be played the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week.

The Tigers' first opponent hasn't been announced, but Marquette, Arizona State and North Carolina State, which eliminated LSU from the NCAA tournament in March, will also be in the tournament.

LSU will also play Wake Forest in the PMAC this season.

Nunez said LSU will also have home games against Gardner-Webb and McNeese State — both for the second year in a row.

The Tigers will travel to Charleston, South Carolina, to meet the College of Charleston in the second game of a two-for-one that began last December in the PMAC.

After his first season at Georgia, Mark Fox talked about wanting to line up games against North Carolina and Roy Williams.

It hasn't happened yet, but the Georgia men's basketball coach said he spoke to his Tar Heels counterpart on the recruiting circuit recently in Lexington, Kent., about getting their teams together.

"He's willing to consider it," Fox said. "We're in the early stages."

It won't happen this coming season, Fox said...

Wildcats are going to enter SEC play next season with plenty of calluses. In November and December, Kentucky will play neutral-site games against Duke (Champions Classic), Ohio State (CBS Sports Classic), and South Florida while also playing a true road game at UCLA on Dec. 3. The Wildcats will host Louisville at Rupp Arena, as well as two potential bubble teams in Illinois State and Arizona State. That's seven games against teams that should have a chance to play in some sort of postseason tournament -- and that doesn't include a showdown at Kansas right in the middle of league play as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 30.

Kentucky returns three quality pieces in Tyler Ulis, Alex Poythress and Marcus Lee while adding the top point guard and center in the 2015 class in Isaiah Briscoe and Skal Labissiere, respectively. But expecting this team to not be bruised and battered a bit by the end of December would be foolish. The Wildcats are going to be really tested at the beginning of next season.

Buckeyes will play neutral site games against Memphis (November 27) and Kentucky (December 19)...

Ohio State's game against Memphis a week later will be played in Miami, with Kentucky and USF meeting in the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic game as part of that doubleheader. Ohio State's game against Kentucky is part of the CBS Sports Classic, with North Carolina facing UCLA in the other game of that doubleheader at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The NCAA finally changes standards for what is a 'countable opponent'

Champion Baptist can no longer show up and get a paycheck for losing games by 100+ points.

From this point forward, in order for a team to be considered a real game and not simply an exhibition, the program must be a four-year, degree-granting school with sports teams that operate at a varsity level. Then it also must be a member of the NCAA, the NAIA, the NCCAA or one of its Canadian counterparts, or it must be accredited.

Michigan State and Florida have signed on for a home-and-home series beginning this season, the schools announced on Tuesday.

The game will be held at the Breslin Center on December 12th of this year with a return game in Gainesville during the 2017-18 season.

Having reached the NCAA tournament in each of the last two seasons, Archie Miller's Dayton Flyers will not only be expected to do so for a third consecutive year but they'll also be one of the favorites in strengthened Atlantic 10. Thursday the program finally released its non-conference schedule for the 2015-16 season, and the Flyers could face as many as six NCAA tournament teams before the start of Atlantic 10 play.

The most noteworthy matchup is their game at Vanderbilt December 9, with the Commodores boasting a team that's expected to be among the best in the SEC.

Dayton opens up its regular season with games against Southeast Missouri (November 13) and Alabama (November 17), and they could face the Crimson Tide twice this season depending upon how the AdvoCare Invitational bracket (November 26, 27 and 29 in Orlando) shakes out (they're on opposite sides of that bracket).
