Bulldogs officially reel in a Turtle, and an E'Torrion.
http://www.macon.com/2014/11/12/3419182/bulldogs-officially-reel-in-a.html ...

Guard Turtle Jackson signs with Georgia.

QuoteThe 6-foot-4 guard at Athens Christian signed with the Bulldogs, giving the team a highly-regarded talent who was once committed to the defending national champions.

Jackson was one of two players to sign with Georgia on Wednesday, the first day of the basketball early signing period. The other was E'Torrion Wilridge, a 6-foot-6 forward from Beaumont, Texas. Wilridge also had offers from Auburn, Iowa State, Marquette and Oklahoma, among others. Both Jackson and Wilridge are rated three-star prospects by Dawgs247.com, with Jackson the nation's No. 116 overall prospect.

Georgia is also awaiting word from two other prospects planning to sign in the next day or two. The highest-rated is Tevin Mack, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Columbia, S.C., who is also considering VCU, UConn and South Carolina. The other is Derek Ogbeide, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound post player from Mableton.

Georgia has two scholarships available at this point for the 2015-16 season.

Regarding hoops recruit Tevin Mack: UGA didn't feel good about its chances late in process. So his announcement for VCU not surprising.

UGA now waiting on Derek Ogbeide, a big man from Mableton, Ga., and Bulldogs feel a bit better about its chances than it did with Mack.

John Calipari's comments on UK's three signees—Charles Matthews, Isaiah Briscoe, and Skal Labissiere: http://kentuckysportsradio.com/main/all-three-commits-including-isaiah-briscoe-have-signed-their-letters-of-intent/ ...

Well, so much for Isaiah Briscoe waiting until the spring to sign.

QuoteCal on Briscoe:

"Isaiah is a multidimensional guard who can play both the one and the two," Calipari said. "He's a big, strong guard with great ball skills that are beyond the norm. He can score the ball at will, but he's an unselfish player who makes plays for his teammates. That's why guys love playing with him and why he's such a great teammate. An importance piece on USA Basketball's U18 gold medal team, it's clear he's one of the best guards in the country."

Cal on Skal:

"Skal is in the same mold of Marcus Camby and Anthony Davis because he went from 6-2 to 6-11 and he has guard skills," Calipari said. "He's a talented two-way player from Haiti with long arms that have helped him both offensively and defensively. What really drew us to Skal is he's a high-character kid with a 3.5 grade-point average who wants to get better. Going forward, we've got to get Skal's post game to match his perimeter game."

Cal on Charles Matthews:

"I first fell in love with Charles when I saw him playing with Tyler Ulis," Calipari said. "What stuck out to me about him is he's a great finisher who can get to the basket. Not only can Charles create shots for himself, he can create them for his teammates as well. He's a 6-5 wing player with a lot of athleticism and is already an excellent defender. He's a quality kid, a great student and he's going to end up being a great player."

NEW: With early signing period [finally over], a closer look at the nine five-star recruits still on Calipari's 2015 radar http://bit.ly/1vsWRLu

QuoteANTONIO BLAKENEY
Shooting guard
The 6-4 prospect from Orlando, Fla., took official visits to Kentucky, Missouri and Louisiana State after decommitting from Louisville earlier this fall. There has been talk for weeks that Blakeney and UK signee Isaiah Briscoe could end up at the same school, but the most credible info says that the two five-star guards always planned to make independent decisions...

Big man Thomas Bryant visiting UK http://cjky.it/1x6YvgP  @kyletucker_cj

QuoteThe 6-10, 230-pound Bryant, who attends Huntington (W.Va.) Prep, is rated five stars and the No. 28 player nationally by 247Sports.com. He's four stars and No. 31, according to Scout.com, and four stars and No. 36 by Rivals.com.

Bryant has taken official visits to Syracuse, Indiana and Missouri, and he said this month that he'd cut his list to those teams. Now he's apparently willing to add UK to the mix, although he's not thought to possess a scholarship offer from John Calipari at this point.

Linda Bryant Says Kentucky is 'Not the Right Place' For Her Son; BBN, Twitter Chime In http://zagsblog.com/articles/linda-bryant-says-kentucky-is-not-the-right-place-for-her-son-bbn-twitter-chime-in/ ...

QuoteLinda Bryant, the mother of four-star Huntington (W.V.) Prep center Thomas Bryant, says her son is down to two schools, and really just one.

"Really it's down to two," Linda Bryant told Syracuse.com from her home in Rochester, N.Y. "Syracuse and Indiana. And it might be down to one soon. Thomas has always told me that Syracuse was the leader."

"You have to give kudos to the man [John Calipari] for being able to recruit like that," she told Syracuse.com. "But I don't think that's the right place for my son. He's a young man who is still learning the game. He needs to be focused on that, not worrying which platoon he is on."

As for Missouri, Linda Bryant previously told SNY.tv that the SEC school was out for her son. He did take an official there and other sources said Thomas Bryant is still considering Missouri, where former Huntington coach Rob Fulford is an assistant and Bryant's former Huntington Prep teammates, Teki Gill-Caesar, is a freshman.

A-List No. 1 - @AlabamaMBB signee Donta' Hall overcomes father's passing to shine on, off court for Luverne http://ow.ly/F2ajk

QuoteDonta' Hall, a 6-foot-10 star basketball player and maybe the most popular person in the small town of Luverne some 50 miles south of Montgomery, signed a basketball scholarship with the University of Alabama on Nov. 12.

There was, and still is, a table set up high in the Luverne High School gym bleachers, to the left of the Tiger logo painted on the wall and directly across from the Luverne bench.

That's where Donta's father, Donald Hall, suffered a heart attack and later died nearly four years ago to the date.

Hall, the No. 1 player on AL.com's A-List, got his bubbly personality and height from his mother Mary's side of the family, and his love for sports and tireless work ethic from his father. Alabama was the first school to recruit Donta' and it was only natural that he'd sign to play for head coach Anthony Grant, lead recruiter Antoine Pettway and the Crimson Tide.

"My dad loved 'Bama to the heart," Donta' Hall said...

This is the last time Donald Hall (top right, crossing hands) watched Donta' Hall play basketball for Luverne (contributed by Mary Hall)

Wow. Bruce Pearl not allowed to take a picture with a young fan because he's in 7th grade. Was very apologetic. He's being extra careful.

Now John Calipari and Bruce Pearl are chatting it up. Don't think either has asked for the other's autograph.

Caleb Swanigan and Homestead (Ind.) ready to tip things off against Curie (Ill.). Calipari, Kenny Payne, Louisville assistants all here.

Curie collapsing three defenders on Swanigan every time he gets the ball in the post. He just pulled out a quick spin move for 2 points.

Evan Daniels @EvanDaniels  ·  3 hours ago
Caleb Swanigan may be the best rebounder in the 2015 class. Owning the glass here. Has double figure rebounds & it's not halftime yet.

Ben Roberts @NextCats  ·  3 hours ago
HALF: Homestead 25, Curie 17. Caleb Swanigan with 10 points and about 10 rebounds.

Ben Roberts @NextCats  ·  2 hours ago
FINAL: Curie 49, Homestead 36. Caleb Swanigan finishes with 14 points. Scoreless in fourth quarter.

Caleb Swanigan says John Calipari has told him he has no plans to do the Platoon system after this season.

Caleb Swanigan said his entire team is supposed to go see a UK practice while they are in town this weekend.

Swanigan: "What I did in the 2nd half wouldn't work at Kentucky. Coach Cal would chew me out. They play as a team and they play together."

Swanigan says he has no plans to "cut" his list before he makes his decision. No favorites right now. The plan is to choose in the spring.

From last night: 2015 standout Thomas Bryant talks about his scholarship offer from Kentucky. http://bit.ly/1CqGVNe

QuoteThings are heating up between UK and Huntington Prep basketball star Thomas Bryant.

Bryant told the Herald-Leader on Friday night that he has received a UK scholarship offer for the class of 2015. It was later confirmed that Bryant got the offer during his unofficial visit to UK for the Cats' victory over Boston University last week.

The 6-foot-10 native of Rochester, N.Y., is considered one of the top post players in the class of 2015 and one of the hardest-working prospects in all of high school basketball. ESPN ranks him as the No. 16 senior in the country.

Bryant was in Lexington again Friday night for the Joe B. and Denny Bluegrass Showcase, where Huntington Prep defeated Life Center (N.J.) 74-54. He was 7-for-8 from the field and had 16 points despite playing just 17 minutes due to some early foul trouble.

UK Coach John Calipari and assistant coach Kenny Payne stayed until the end of the game, which wasn't finished until 10:30 p.m.

"You see guys like that — you absolutely want to play your best game," Bryant said.

Bryant and his teammates are expected to watch UK practice Saturday before returning to Dunbar High School for the second day of the Bluegrass Showcase. Huntington Prep will play Faith Baptist (Ga.) at 4 p.m.

It likely won't be Bryant's final trip to Lexington.

He said he's in the process of setting up an official visit to UK and noted that he's been in regular contact with Calipari and UK assistant Barry Rohrssen in recent weeks.

Mizzou assistant Rob Fulford was Huntington Prep's coach last season and Gill-Caesar followed him to Columbia.

Malik Newman has the reputation of being a chucker at times (and he certainly puts up a lot of shots) but he makes some creative passes too.

Malik Newman finishes with 35 points in Callaway's 76-65 loss to Archbishop Carroll. Newman made 5 threes.

Malik Newman's father, Horatio Webster, played at Mississippi State. Asked how he fared as player against UK: "We never won. You know that."

Malik Newman didn't have much of an update on his recruitment. He says it's still open to any team that wants to get involved.

Malik Newman's dad: "Cal's a player's coach. Any time you have a guy who ships players to the NBA the way he does, you gotta love that."

Auburn commit Trayvon Reed pleads guilty to misdemeanor assault stemming from July arrest. On track to play in Dec.
http://on.mgmadv.com/1s4V34I

QuoteTrayvon Reed, the 7-foot-1 Auburn commit, pleaded guilty to second-degree misdemeanor assault on Friday for charges stemming from his July arrest in Maryland.

A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed Reed's sentencing will be in April and upon his completion of course work at Elev|8 Prep (Florida), will enroll at Auburn in January but will be eligible to play as soon as he's admitted, which could be in less than two weeks.

Reed's attorney, David Putzi, told the Baltimore Sun sentencing was pushed back because neither Reed nor the officer he was accused of assaulting outside a College Park, Maryland convenience store on July 30, could appear in court. The previous court date was set for Dec. 19.

A former Maryland commit, Reed was denied enrollment following his altercation with a plainclothes officer, who witnessed Reed leave a 7-11 convenience store without paying for an ice cream bar and candy. A scuffle ensued after Reed attempted to run from the officer, whose finger was broken in the incident, which resulted in Reed being charged with second-degree assault, second degree assault of a police officer, theft under $100 and resisting arrest.

I know random but I was looking through ESPN Top 100 for 2015 and Texas AM has 4 of them and I think all but one in top 50 and that was a number 64 recruit. I know ESPN may not be best site for college basketball but still.  How in the world are they pulling that kind of class?  Looks like they may be serious competition in near future.

HF#1

I'm just glad we don't open the season there, again.  Otherwise, I have no f's to give about their recruiting class.

ICYMI: Brandon Ingram Still Mulling 6 Schools, Says UNC Academic Scandal 'Affects Decision' (Updated) http://zagsblog.com/articles/brandon-ingram-still-mulling-6-schools-says-unc-academic-scandal-affects-decision/ ...

QuoteIngram told SNY.tv. "The same six schools really, N.C. State, North Carolina, Kansas, Duke, Kentucky and UCLA. Same recruitment, I've been with my high school team a lot. I'm not doing a lot of recruiting right now."

Ranked No. 12 in the nation in the Class of 2015 by 247 Sports and listed at 6-foot-9, with a 7-foot-4 wingspan, Ingram has been compared to Kevin Durant on multiple occasions.

Some observers believe Ingram will ultimately end up at North Carolina because he is close with former Tar Heel Jerry Stackhouse, who also played for Kinston (N.C.) High and coaches Ingram during the summer on Stackhouse Elite.

Still, the academic scandal at UNC has complicated things and Ingram said that has impacted his thought process.

"Of course it affects my decision," Ingram said. "I really like those guys a lot, and I really like all of the colleges a lot, so I'm just waiting to see what's going to happen because it will affect my decision a lot. Seeing if they're going to get into the NCAA Tournament, or seeing if they shy away from anything, it definitely does affect the decision though."

Despite all of this, Ingram does say that the schools are thought of highly in his mind.

"All of the schools stand well," Ingram said. "Of course you can't go wrong with any of the six. I've been talking with Duke heavy, Kansas heavy, Kentucky heavy, all of them. I've developed good relationships, and of course it's going to be hard to tell any one of them no, but when I'm 100 percent sure I'll announce it."

Jaylen Brown typifies modern national basketball recruit

QuoteHILLSBORO – After a 25-point, 14-rebound effort in a second round victory over Jesuit on Saturday evening, Wheeler High School senior Jaylen Brown, the nation's No. 2 prospect, hung back on the court with an assistant coach and braced for inevitable onslaught of autograph seekers.

A few older fans held binders filled with 8x10 photos, but the crowd around the 6-foot-7 athlete primarily consisted of wide-eyed kids dressed in basketball shorts and sneakers of all colors who sought a few seconds with the possible future NBA star.

At one point the rhythm of the impromptu signing session was interrupted by a middle-aged woman asking for a picture before declaring that Jaylen was her boyfriend – an awkward joke that garnered sideways glances rather than laughter.

Ever the good sport, Brown smiled and posed for the photo, then declared his on-court time over after a few more photos and autographs.

"Jaylen, sign this ball for a little girl please," a Les Schwab Invitational official said, extending a marker and a miniature basketball as Brown made his way to the locker room. "Sign this for a little girl."

Next came a short, two-minute interview request, which Brown granted. "He's not going to tell you anything," an LSI official exclaimed. "He's a good kid."

A walking basketball showcase willing to sign autographs and careful with his words – Brown has come to typify the modern national basketball recruit, whose on-court performance is combined with a carefully constructed image...

On the recruiting front, Brown is down to a final seven of UCLA, Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Georgia.
