The original poster states we would gain instant credibility.

This is no slam on Nolan who I think was one of the college coaching greats, but:

I think it would bring instant laughability.  Yeah, we'd get some media attention, and it would be along the lines of, "They're so desperate, they're hiring a man who's been out of the game for over 14 years." 

"I guess this means they WERE in the wrong.  They've come back after all this time to give him his job back." 

"I guess the rednecks are interested in having a winning basketball program again."

Sorry, but as Iwasthere and pork stated, this is best left alone and fondly remembered, not relived.
