In looking at the Baylor stat's, most of the points come from the guard play. Carter is 5'11" and avg. 17.7 pg. He shoots 43%. He avg. 35 Min. game.Courtney is 6' and avg. 19.8 pg. He shoots 54%. He avg. 35 Min. game.  Dunn is 6'4" and avg. 17.3 pg. He shoots 38%. 30 min. game.Welsh is avg. 6'3", avg. 7.9 pg.. He shoots 42%. He avg. 24 Min. game.
They have a huge drop off from guard play. If we can stop the guard play, we should win the game.

One of the nicer things is that we won't be dwarfed by Baylor's guards;  most of the year, it's seemed like we've been giving up 3 inches of height at each guard position, which has hurt our perimeter defense.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Totally agree with the both of you.

With Fortson coming back? I would expect to see the press more now in this game coming up.

Why does anyone think Fortson will return for this game? No one has said what has changed that makes him available for this game. No one has said why he's even out in the first place. So far it's just whispers, rumors, and so-called inside info. Give us something concrete that specifically says Fortson has met whatever ridiculous condition he had to meet. Right now it looks like the UA is simply slow playing announcing his dismissal or transfer while they get his final grades in order for the APR.

It was announced on Bo's show that Fortson will play against Baylor.

Hard to get a handle on this Baylor team for me. I haven't watched them play, and looking at their schedule, they haven't played that great of one. Best win probably Xavier or Arizona St., but there is that lost to a rebuilding Bama team. In most normal years I would view this as a game we should win. Unfortunately this isn't most normal years and I think we will need some help to win this game.

Baylor has 3 players averaging in Double figures

a 5'11 senior who shoots 42 percent from 3   17 PPG

a 6-3  Junior who shoots 36 percent from 3   14 PPG

a 6-10 Junior who was All defense Big 10 a couple years ago  17 PPG

They start 3 guys who are 6-10 and Taller and absolutely dominate on the boards.    However at the same time they seem to win with Guard play.  as their 7 footer Lomers has Steven Hill like numbers and their 6-10 guys Jones has Vincent Hunter like numbers

The key is to put pressure on guards and get turnovers.   Especially when walton is in the game playing Point Guard.   he turns the ball over a ton.  This really looks like the game to press...especially if Fortson is back

Nice break down. How many guys do they play off the bench?

They play a stricket 8 man rotation with a 9th man picking up a few minutes in close games

Bench players recieve no more then 15 minutes and often times between 5-10.  starters play 30-35 minutes each

If we can press them and force them to go at our pace we could get some of those bench players some more time. Going to be a good game.

In Waco this would be a definite loss. At home, we have a chance - but I agree, some things will have to go our way like they did against MoSt

The Baylor website shows two top scorers as both guards. As Nolan would say, "Cut off the head and the rest will die".

Iwastherein1969

this is simple....we play zone against their 3-ball shooters on the perimeter and we lose, if we play a 'get in their jersey' man to man defense and make them beat our bigs down low, we win....Pelphrey should have learned one thing from the Missouri St game and its this...we can win without Michael Washington having a good game so making it a priority to protect Mikey by playing a 2-3 zone is not a necessity....all this is based on the sudden emergence of one Glenn Bryant....a young man who I think came out of his shell Tuesday night and is only going to improve

Please elaborate that on Bo's show he said Fortson would play?

labb

Believe the Fortson will play statement came from Dudley who said he thinks Fortson will play. That announcement has not come from anyone in the athletic department.

took the letters off my keyboard as ol' Double D weighed in on when his sources told him Fortson would be back....although I think Dawson is correct in one sense on this one, either Fortson is back on the court against Baylor or he's never coming back

One thing I do not understand about this game is why it is being played when it is being played..Need good crowds for the LR game to continue to be played and they schedule it for 8:00 on a Wednesday between Xmas and New Year does not make a whole lot of sense to me. (But then they did not ask for my input)

razorgary

LR may get a better crowd then BW.

Niels Boar

The teams are very similar.  The biggest difference is that they offensive rebound very well.  Protecting our defensive glass will be a key.  They are only an average ball-handling team.  Getting some boards back through TOs would be nice to even up possessions.  Both teams have very good 2-pt differentials.  Thus, winning the FT line (where they stink), the arc, and possessions will probably be our path to a W.  Believe it or not, we have a better arc differential than they do.

Yes, but school is out and there will be a very good crowd there.

razorgary

RC should get better looks with shorter guards defending him.

hogsmaster

Maybe wishful thinking, but if Fortson plays and we win, then we have tremendous confidence going into conference play.  I know, we had lots of confidence last year too, but this team, with Fortson, is better than last year's team because of more offensive weapon with addition of Powell and is deeper.
