I remember he was a WR when he got here but tonight he's eating with the RB coach and the rest of the RB's. He's built like you want one, that's for sure!!

Trey Biddy mentioned that move.  He felt Barkley will do well at RB. Hogs are just a bit thin at the RB position and the new staff have added to the numbers quickly thru recruiting and a change of position.  This staff is going to be successful

Sho Nuff

Yeah, his twitter page says he is a RB.  Hope he excels there!

VirginiaHog

Coaches moved him a couple weeks back. Will do well.

Considering we will run a lot of two RB sets, we do need more bodies...just in case.  Especially ones that are a threat to catch the ball as well.

TJ Hammonds is not in that picture is he? I guess he will be back at WR? Never mind, I saw him on the 2nd look, @justtheron is his twitter.

It fits with the new staff wanting taller/bigger WRs. It will be interesting to see what they do with Barnes and Warren and some of the smaller kids. One or more might wind up at CB?
KJ Jefferson, one of only 2 QBs in UA history to go 2-0 in Bowl Games..

His speed at RB in Chad Morris's offense is a perfect fit.

HoGustav

He stepped up to play RB at Lake Travis when the feature back was injured.
Went on to win a state championship running Morris' offense.
He's not real big, but has speed and the ability to find the crease.

Where ever he's at, he needs some touches.

nwahogfan1

Love HR speed at the RB spot.   I hope he is shifty.  What does he weight now?

There's a lot of talent in that picture. I hope this staff can figure out how to use it!

DeltaBoy

Yes he played all over the place at Lake Travis.

If this kid is half as good as Saquon Barkley, I love this move!

I hope they figure it out better than with Jordan Carmouche.
*this is not a criticism of moderatin.

It is going to be interesting to see how this position shakes out this spring.

Comparing the stats from last year we have 13 guys with a rush and a total of 462 rushes.  SMU had 11 guys with a rushing attempt and a total of 486 rushes.

David Williams is the only guy we have lost while adding Barkley and Boyd.

There are only so many carries to go around and I'm curious who the top 2-3 RBs end up being.

DeltaBoy

Some one will get some carries on the Jet sweep.

I imagine we'll see a combination of receivers and backs lining up in the slot. Hammonds and Hayden both will probably see time in the slot from the RB position. That's probably the role envisioned for Barkley as well.

Barkley played some RB at Lake Travis:

GREAT VISION & GEOMETRY  ( that's angles for you uneducated rednecks like ME ) and pretty good speed

Got a question.  I always believed that the coaching staff had to keep a hands off the players after seasons end except the S&C coaches.  Earlier I see our coaches telling players that are working out that they supply the want to and the coaches will supply the how to and then I see another staff member who it seems has gone out to dinner with the RBs.  I know these coaches wouldn't break the rules in plain sight.  Has this always been legal????????

Tim Harris

The hands off part you are thinking of is in regards to football drills. I'm pretty sure they can go to dinner whenever they want. There might be limits on how often they can watch them in the weight room but it is allowed.
