Not much to really comment on here. Just thought I make this as a reminder of where our hogs are at.

Brandon Allen:      Jacksonville Jaguars -2nd/3rd team
Jared Collins:        Los Angeles Rams -CUT
Alex Collins:         Seattle Seahawks - fighting for roster spot/3rd team
Knile Davis:          Pittsburgh Steelers - 2nd/3rd team
A.J. Derby:           Denver Broncos- projected starter
Brooks Ellis:          New England Patriots - fighting for roster spot
Trey Flowers:        New England Patriots - starter
Chris Gragg:         Buffalo Bills   - NY Jets - TBD
Cobi Hamilton:      Pittsburgh Steelers - fighting for roster spot, but should land somewhere
Keon Hatcher:       Oakland Raiders - fighting for a roster spot, not making any news atm
Hunter Henry:        Los Angeles Chargers - Essentially a co-starter with Gates
Javontee Herndon: Los Angeles Chargers    - Dallas Cowboys - fighting for a roster spot
Cody Hollister:       New England Patriots - Fighting for a roster spot
Sam Irwin-Hill:      Dallas Cowboys - Fighting to impress another team since dallas is good at the position
Cameron Jefferson: Buffalo Bills - fighting for a roster spot
Denver Kirkland:    Oakland Raiders - fighting to hold onto his roster spot, increase playing time
Jeremiah Ledbetter: Detroit Lions - looks to be a roster lock, could be situational pass rusher
Mitchell Loewen:      New Orleans Saints - fighting for roster spot, to be used as a situational rusher
Ryan Mallett:          Baltimore Ravens - Arguably fighting for a starting  spot if Flacco stays injured...
Darren McFadden:   Dallas Cowboys - fighting to keep his backup role to Elliot
Tevin Mitchel:         Indianapolis Colts - fighting for a roster spot
Drew Morgan:         Miami Dolphins - fighting for a roster spot
Jason Peters:         Philadelphia Eagles - catching punts...
Darius Philon:        Los Angeles Chargers - roster spot should be assured, but fighting for playing time

Travis Swanson:     Detroit Lions - fighting to hold onto starting spot
Robert Thomas:      New York Giants - fighting to hold onto starting spot
Sebastian Tretola:  Tennessee Titans - CUT
Jonathan Williams: Buffalo Bills - fighting for playing time, holding onto backup running gig to McCoy
Deatrich Wise Jr.:   New England Patriots - potential starter for the patriots
Jarius Wright:        Minnesota Vikings - Will be on somebody's roster for sure this season, doesn't sound happy with the vikings right now though.

Here's a brief synopsis of where they stand, though could have a lot of outdated information. Feel free to correct and update.

Brandon Allen:      Jacksonville Jaguars- 3rd string behind Henne though will likely phase Henne out
Jared Collins:        Los Angeles Rams-UDFA, but they've lost good talent in free agency, realistic roster shot
Alex Collins:         Seattle Seahawks- Backup RB behind Rawls, Lacy, and different role than Procise.
Knile Davis:          Pittsburgh Steelers- Been shuffled around a lot lately, KR specialist mostly but has the physical attributes to be a star if any coach can mentally get him there.

A.J. Derby:           Denver Broncos- traded there last year, started to pick up steam as a player. Drafting Butt could really cut into Derby's production though.

Brooks Ellis:          New England Patriots-UDFA, they are pretty good at LB. Practice squad is probably ceiling right now

Trey Flowers:        New England Patriots- super bowl star, started about half the season last year
Chris Gragg:         Buffalo Bills- was on the roster bubble last year but injury allowed them to keep him on the IR, iirc. Really make or break this off-seaon for him.

Cobi Hamilton:      Pittsburgh Steelers- Finally was starting to be an important rotational player for them. However, with Bryant back and some of the draft moves, they are definitely not content at receiver. Worst case, some other team will have seen what Hamilton did and perhaps give him a shot.

Keon Hatcher:       Oakland Raiders- UDFA, but they could use some more receiver help. Plus, his physical style of play is perfect for the offense they are wanting to run. Realistic chance to make the roster, likely to make practice squad at worst.

Hunter Henry:        Los Angeles Chargers- entrenched as the #2 behind HoF Gates but still getting plenty of work.

Javontee Herndon: Los Angeles Chargers- Did some good work for them a season ago but spent the year on IR last year. They like him in the Chargers but he needs a good off-season to stay likely.

Cody Hollister:       New England Patriots- UDFA. His special teams skills could get him a roster spot but unlikely if that is the only place he contributes. He showed some flashes as a WR when healthy but not a lot. With his height and strength, could become a TE/H-back for them.

Sam Irwin-Hill:      Dallas Cowboys- Cowboy's aren't in desperate need for a punter but competition always helps.

Cameron Jefferson: Buffalo Bills - He was on the practice squad for the bears a while back, which isn't bad for not starting in college.

Denver Kirkland:    Oakland Raiders - started to get some work last season iirc as an extra blocker.

Jeremiah Ledbetter: Detroit Lions - Lions have lost productive DL players so he will have a chance
Mitchell Loewen:      New Orleans Saints- Saints have somewhat established starters, but need more of a pass rush. Could be a situational player, but practice squad is probably the ceiling.

Ryan Mallett:          Baltimore Ravens- entrenched as Flacco's backup and doing well.
Darren McFadden:   Dallas Cowboys- Elliot's backup and got a somewhat surprising extension.
Tevin Mitchel:         Indianapolis Colts- Colts are desperate for secondary play. They value him after snatching off of washington's IR.

Drew Morgan:         Miami Dolphins- UDFA, following a bit too much in welker's path
Jason Peters:         Philadelphia Eagles- all pro, possibly future hof, getting old though
Darius Philon:        Los Angeles Chargers- Bosa really took his spot, now Bosa's backup
Dan Skipper:         Dallas Cowboys - A good run blocking RT for them, but struggles with good pass rushers on the edge. They just lost their RT so there is opportunity. However, if he makes the team, will likely be more as an extra run blocker in the jumbo packages.

Chris Smith:          Cincinnati Bengals- designated pass rusher but buried in jax. Cincy traded for him so they clearly value him.

Martrell Spaight:    Washington Redskins- mostly a backup so far, but spoken well by teammates, could become a starter this year or next.

Jeremy Sprinkle:    Washington Redskins- Reed is a very good TE, but often injured.
Travis Swanson:     Detroit Lions- Started 12 games last year but nobody is safe as a starter on that porous OL

Robert Thomas:      New York Giants- been with washington for a while. Now with giants. Never been on the 53 man roster for more than a couple of weeks though been in the NFL for several seasons now.

Sebastian Tretola:  Tennessee Titans - appeared in 1 game last year. No idea what his future holds there.
Jonathan Williams: Buffalo Bills- had some carries and did well. They got rid of a lot of the players in front of him so his playing time should increase.

Deatrich Wise Jr.:   New England Patriots- Going into his rookie year. More athletic, explosive, and stronger than flowers along with better height and arms. However, very prone to injury and not as complete. However, could be a major player if healthy.

Jarius Wright:        Minnesota Vikings - was on the roster bubble last year and they've been adding a lot of WR's. His production peaked in 2014. Only had 47 yards last year as a healthy scratch most of the time.

You left off Dan Skipper....Dallas Cowboys

alohawg

Speaking of Dan, hope he gets a legit shot.

Rookie offensive lineman Dan Skipper was expected to sign as a free agent with the rest of the class on Thursday. But the Cowboys team officials wanted to check out a previous issue Skipper informed the team about concerning his bloodwork. Head athletic trainer Jim Maurer went with Skipper Friday morning to a nearby clinic to get more tests. The results were good enough for Skipper to get on the field Friday on a tryout basis. The Cowboys still have the option to sign him to the roster this weekend.

UofA has certainly proved to be a legit steeping stone to the League. Nice. WPS.

bennyl08

Skipper officially signs with the Cowboys. Apparently he made the tryout.

Dominique Reed had a tryout spot with the Texans but didn't appear to make the cut. Key word is appear to make the cut since it ended 5 days ago and 3 days ago, one player was reported to have signed after trying out. However, that article specifically said "at least one" who tried out has signed. Not looking good for him though.

Bailey had some troubles. Substance infraction with the league and arrested for a DUI in September. He's probably going to have to earn his way back into a backup role with some team... if he gets a shot at all.

Mitch Lowellyn had a good day in Saints camp today!!

Just saw Herndon is with the Cowboys now.

Was listening to Florida sports radio today (sad huh ?) and I'm not going to be surprised if Brandon allen doesn't end up at least 1.b to bortles 1.a at the beginning of the season. He is lighting it up in camp. I couple that with the fact that Marrone wasn't afraid to bench a first round qb starter for Kyle Orton and Their president , Angey Gramps, will kick a player to the side in a heartbeat if he isn't playing well.

greenEGnHAWGS

Good read about AC.

http://www.thenewstribune.com/sports/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-insider-blog/article164670112.html

PLAY(ER) OF THE DAY: Second-year running back Alex Collins reached back to snare a hard pass from Russell Wilson off his hip. Collins then pivoted sharply up the left side of the field and sprinted with speed he did not have last season as a rookie who fell in and out of shape, and thus coaches' favor. Collins had All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner chasing him -- all the way to the end zone without catching him.

Through two practices and throughout offseason OTAs and minicamp, Collins has looked quicker. He's been more decisive. He's looked more athletic, like the high-school lacrosse player he was.

And maybe he's just grown up some.

The Seahawks drafted him in the fifth round last year out of Arkansas as a 21-year old who still had a year of college football eligibility remaining. He left Arkansas as one of only three running backs in the history of the Southeastern Conference to rush for 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons; Darren McFadden and Herschel Walker are the others.

Coach Pete Carroll and his staff thought Collins came in too big last year -- and stayed too heavy. The Seahawks listed him at 5 feet 10 and 217 pounds last year. He's listed at 210 now.

When Collins arrived for rookie minicamp in the spring of 2016, Carroll thought Collins was too heavy. He wanted Collins to "recondition" himself and get closer to his college playing weight of 215 pounds. Then, after Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise got hurt ahead of him, Collins fumbled on his only carry in November's primetime win at New England. Though he recovered his mistake, he got benched for the rest of that game and the following one.

Did he change his diet? Collins nodded.

Did he do more Irish dancing? Collins chuckled. (He trained in Irish dancing, at the encouragement of his younger sister, before the draft to improve his footwork.)

"It was a little bit of both," Collins said last winter.

Now the lighter, faster Collins is trying to cement his place behind Rawls, Prosise and new running back Eddie Lacy. To do that, he needs to stay ahead of rookie Chris Carson, a bullish runner from Oklahoma State that Seattle drafted in the seventh round this spring, and former USC back Tre Madden, a free agent from last season Carroll keeps praising.

It's only been two days of camp, but Collins is off to a fast start.
Did they get you to trade a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage...?

greenEGnHAWGS

I understand that everyone is so early in Training Camp so I take most of these with a grain of salt, but I like hearing about how the Hogs are doing, so here is a few compilations:

JEREMY SPRINKLE:
In a pass protection drill, Junior Galette easily beat Vernon Davis with a quick inside move. Then rookie Jeremy Sprinkle stopped Galette. Finally, in a rematch, Galette smoked Davis again. I'd be more encouraged about Galette than concerned about Davis.
http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/washington-redskins/live-redskins-practice-blog-day-5

As for Derek Carrier and Jeremy Sprinkle, both made big catches during Thursday's practice session.

Carrier tallied a would-be 30-plus-yard reception while Sprinkle was able to create a bit of separation in open-field.

For the first time since a 2015 preseason trade from the San Francisco 49ers, Carrier had an entire season to find himself in Washington. Last offseason, the Beloit College product was rehabbing from a torn ACL and MCL.

Sprinkle, meanwhile, could be the inline blocker Washington is seeking from the position, but is more of a pass-catching threat than some of his draft bios stated. In fact, he is Arkansas' all-time touchdowns leader among tight ends and recorded 33 catches for 380 yards during his senior season.

DREW MORGAN
That means more opportunities for six others – Drew Morgan, Malcolm Lewis, Damore'ea Stringfellow, Mitch Matthews, Francis Owusu and new addition Jordan Westerkamp. Morgan has shown the most of that group, going back to May, and spent some time with the first team on Monday, catching a touchdown in red zone drills.
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article164554097.html

DEATRICH WISE
Rookie defensive edge Deatrich Wise Jr. has had some intriguing one-on-one battles...Kony Ealy is currently projected as the starter, while Geneo Grissom and Deatrich Wise Jr. have also seen plenty of reps with the first unit.

JONATHAN WILLIAMS
Buffalo Bills beat writer Joe Buscaglia is reporting the team is giving Jonathan Williams "every opportunity" to win the No. 2 running back job in 2017. "The Bills have shown a lot of confidence in Jonathan Williams publicly," Buscaglia said Sunday. "He'll get every opportunity to win that job. It's on him now."

Trey Flowers and Wise having a good day

"Defensive end Trey Flowers dominated rookie offensive lineman Jason King during 1-on-1s. It wasn't even fair. Rookie offensive tackle Conor McDermott stood out positively in 1-on-1s. Rookie defensive end Deatrich Wise has been better than fellow first-year pro Derek Rivers in the pass-rush drills."

Allen already the 3rd team QB

Sounds like they aren't even giving him a chance to improve his standing.

"Jacksonville Jaguars fans who wanted to see third-string quarterback Brandon Allen get a chance to push quarterback Blake Bortles for the starting job got some disappointing news on Wednesday. Not only will Allen not be competing with Bortles, he won't even be competing with Chad Henne to be the No. 2 quarterback. Coach Doug Marone said Henne won that competition before training camp even started. "I think that went on earlier on [in the offseason]," Marrone said. "I think that Brandon has had a good couple of days, but I think right now Chad is No. 2.""

http://www.espn.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/67531/jaguars-qb-depth-chart-clear-blake-bortles-chad-henne-brandon-allen

"Third-string quarterback Brandon Allen hadn't thrown an interception during team drills through the first six practices. His first interception happened during team drills when he threw to the corner of the end zone and cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste snatched the ball out of the air."

Ledbetter getting some work

"Jared Ledbetter continued to spend more time at defensive end today, likely because of injuries, but it's worth keeping tabs on the versatile lineman. He looks comfortable at both positions."

http://lionswire.usatoday.com/2017/08/02/erik-schlitt-scouting-notes-from-day-3-of-detroit-lions-training-camp/

Tevin Mitchell making some noise

"Remember this name
Also in that 2015 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected a cornerback out of Arkansas in the sixth round by the name of Tevin Mitchel.

He hasn't played a down in the NFL since.

Mitchel has been seriously bit by the injury bug the last couple years; he suffered a season-ending injury during his first training camp with the Redskins, but the Colts saw so much promise in Mitchel that they decided to sign him and place him on injured reserve, knowing he'd miss the entire year. He would be placed on injured reserve almost exactly a year later by the Colts, and a couple months later was signed to the practice squad.

Now fully healthy, Mitchel was seen on the practice field on Monday playing both corner spots — and making quality plays, too. If he can stay healthy, as well as contribute on special teams, don't be surprised if Mitchel makes the Week 1 roster coming out of camp"

Ledbetter getting lots of reps with Detroit due to their pass rushers being injured. He got stonewalled by the RG in one on one drills, but sounds like he has a decent chance of making the roster.

Wise is getting a long look with the first team after Ninkovich's retirement. Could have 2 razorback starting DE's for the Patriots this year. If he doesn't win the job, he certainly looks to be in the two deep as a rookie barring injury.

Thomas appears well on his way to a starting role, at least for week 1. This is his 2nd year with the Giants (iirc, the only team he's been with for more than a year) and played well last year after getting over a sickness. This year, the giants used a 2nd round draft pick on Bama's Tomlinson to be their future starting RT, but 3/3 writers for giants.com as of 7 hours ago believe that Thomas will be the starter for week 1, though they all admit that Tomlinson will likely eventually become the starter later this season and definitely by next season.

Brandon Allen at the moment is solidly third string and not the backup.

Collins is facing tough competition from their rookie RB to make the roster

Knile faces some tough competition in Pittsburg, but seems like he might stay.

Derby is listed as the 3rd string in a surprise in Denvery. They plan on using the TE a lot of Green is the in line blocker TE, but Heuerman is listed at #2. The coach says not to read too much into that as they are all package players kind of a thing.

Hatcher is listed as a 5th string WR out of 2 positions.

Henry is expected to supplant Gates as the #1 TE with the Chargers this year.

Hollister was back stretching with the team in practice but then went to the conditioning fields and still isn't able to practice

Kirkland: #2 LG

Ledbetter had the best pass rushing 1 on 1 rep blowing past Dahl. He's been impressing as a pass rusher.

Loewen has been getting noticed in a good way in NO.

Mallett to play extensively in the preseason opener

Tevin Mitchel is getting talked about with making the week 1 roster for the colts. He has had strong play and made some interceptions in practice.

As reported, Morgan is the 2nd team slot receiver.

Chris Smith is looking to make the rosters for the Bengals. Described as "owning" the second string tackles in pass rushing drills. He's been mentioned in almost all of the practice reports. Smith stood out to the Bengals staff when they were studying jag's film for a preaseason game last year.

Sprinkle has flashed during training camp. He isn't a lock to make the roster with a talented position group, but he has impressed the coaches with his size, length, hands, and blocking ability.

Robert Thomas 2nd string on the first depth chart. Had a small injury in training camp.

Swanson is holding onto his starting center spot

JWill "looks to have a lock on" the backup spot behind McCoy.

With Treadwell injured, Wright is back as the starting slot receiver for the vikings and has been making enough plays that he may not give it back.

Then Muss's other 5 tourney wins are against an average of a 12 seed. A few dozen coaches could have done that. Two losing records in SEC play is as much as MA had in 8 years.

Hunter Henry Shines in Scrimmage

"Tight end Hunter Henry continues to show off his skills for the Los Angeles Chargers during training camp. On Saturday, Henry grabbed a couple touchdown catches against the crosstown rival Los Angeles Rams. Henry will be building off an excellent rookie campaign in which he finished the season with 478 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. With future hall-of-famer Antonio Gates still in town, Henry's role will remain somewhat limited, but he's shown that he's ready to step into the limelight at any moment."

Jonathan Williams trying to become the 2nd String RB for the Bills

"The Bills are a run-first team, and all you have to do is note the back-to-back seasons in which they led the NFL in rushing. McCoy is the lead horse, but no running back can play an entire game, not with the pounding they take. Specific to McCoy, he's not all that big, and he's now 29 years old, so he needs rest which puts the onus on the backup to keep the run game on track. Williams believes he's the man for the job.

"It's an important role," said the second-year player out of Arkansas. "LeSean is a great running back and he'll go down as a great running back, but that's a physical position, a position you can't play every down for the whole season. You need somebody to come in and spell him, and I don't want there to be a drop-off when I'm in the game.""

http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/2017/08/09/buffalo-bills-backup-running-back-jonathan-williams-rise/549861001/

"It proved to be a bit of an up and down spring for RB Jonathan Williams in Buffalo's new offensive scheme. Ball security was just one of his issues as he put the ball on the turf a bit too often in May. It prompted offensive coordinator Rick Dennison and running backs coach Kelly Skipper to sit down with Williams and point out what parts of his game needed fine tuning to make him a more effective player down in and down out. The results thus far in training camp have been very positive.

"I think he's ironing some things out," said Dennison. "In the spring we had some discussions (with him), Kelly and I, to get a few things straightened out. I think he has really done that. I think he's focused on the things that we thought would help him out. He's done those and become a much more consistent football player."

Williams' best practice may have been in the Friday night session where he broke off several long runs and was as elusive as he was powerful. It's a unique combination for Williams, who looks to have a lock on the backup job to LeSean McCoy at this point"

Ledbetter Tidbit

"In one-on-one pass-rush work, rookie Jeremiah Ledbetter continues to impress. He forced center Leo Koloamatangi to hold and blew past guard Laken Tomlinson on another rep."

If this happens watch our already stellar QB recruiting and development get even better.!! Also, through in Ryan Mallet and, even though he's not one of CBB's, the program will continue to benefit just as it did when CBB inherited CBP's QB roster and Allen brother express... Imagine, we might have a real possibility of seeing two or three Hog QB's starting in the NFL here in the next few years.

Another day, another scuffleat Dallas Cowboys training camp.

It came as no surprise to see undrafted offensive lineman Dan Skipper in the middle of it. Skipper hasn't ingratiated himself with the defensive linemen, doing things such as falling on their legs to irk them. This time, Skipper and Damontre Moore got into a brief scuffle.

Was listening to Tom Luginbill on XM radio yesterday, talking about how bad the Ark OL was last year (which was absolutely true).  He singled out Skipper and talked about how he awful he was at the tackle spot.

Anyone have updated info on Spaight?

Washington has a pretty solid duo starting at ILB for them already and brought in the talented Zach Brown.

Spaight is unlikely to start this season barring injury. However, he's been making plays in camp and getting noticed. It's just like being an AJ Derby playing behind Gronk and Martellus Bennett. He showed enough to beat out the other guys and be worth trading for to be the starting TE in a tight spot for the Broncos, but he wasn't going to beat out the starters in NE. The ILB group in Washington isn't to the same level as Gronkowski, but it's a similar dynamic.
