QuoteTennessee is looking to recapture its glory from the 1990s.

"I would like to be in state," 3-star Riverdale (Tenn.) receiver Jarek Campbell said. "[I liked] just the coaching staff and like the culture of [Tennessee]."

Campbell, the nation's No. 123 receiver and the No. 25 player in Tennessee, was already highly familiar with the Vols before his April spring game visit, though.

Campbell has made quite a few visits over the last two years to a variety of schools including SEC foes Auburn and Kentucky, as well as Louisville, but those visits haven't quite produced a ton of offers yet.

QuoteTennessee offered a scholarship to Class of 2019 quarterback Garrett Shrader on Thursday after he camped with the Vols.

Shrader, who is from Charlotte, N.C., has slowly picked up interest from several schools, and the SEC recently has jumped in.

"Any offer is a good offer," Shrader said shortly before his offer came from the Vols. "I'm interested in eight schools right now. If Tennessee offered me, then that'd be nine."

He plans to visit Auburn on Friday.

Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee commits honored on MaxPreps Medium Schools All-American team

QuoteAlabama commit Jalyn Armour-Davis of St. Paul's has been named to the MaxPreps Medium Schools Preaseason All-American football team.

MaxPreps considers medium schools to be those with state enrollment divisions that generally have between 1,000 and 2,000 students. Armour-Davis, a cornerback, is one of 30 student-athletes named to the team overall and one of just three from the state of Alabama.

Linebacker Matthew Flint of Madison County joined Armour-Davis on the first-team defense, while offensive lineman Kameron Stutts of Brooks was selected to the second-team offense.

Flint (6-0, 213) committed to Tennessee last week. He averaged 7.1 tackles per game as a junior, recorded five sacks and forced three fumbles. He also started at receiver for Madison County and caught nine TD passes.

The 6-foot-4, 329-pound Stutts committed to Auburn on A-Day. He is a three-star prospect.

Prolific quarterbacks Alex Huston and Layne Hatcher highlight MaxPreps' honor squad.

QuoteAlex Huston of Glendale (Springfield, Mo.) has twice led the nation in passing yardage. Under the tutelage of passing wizard Mike Mauk, Huston is the favorite to lead the nation for a third-straight time after throwing for over 6,000 yards as a junior. Huston became just the second high school player to ever throw for that total (Mauk's son Ben was the other) and he is the first junior.

Then there is Pulaski Academy's Layne Hatcher. Playing for pass-happy coach Kevin Kelly, Hatcher has thrown for over 4,000 yards and 55 or more touchdowns for two straight seasons.

First Team Offense
TE – Luke Ford, Carterville (Ill.), 6-6, 248

LeDarrius Cox remains committed to Tennessee, but he's not going to turn away an schools that express interest.

The defensive tackle out of McGill-Toolen was among the more than 30 players to visit Auburn for Big Cat Weekend.

QuoteAuburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele recently offered Cox, a 6-foot-5, 307-pound prospect.

Cox committed to Tennessee in early April and Steele visited him in Mobile later that month and they've been talking since.

During Big Cat Weekend, Cox got a chance to meet with defensive line coach Rodney Garner and former Auburn defensive tackle Montravius Adams.

Cox plans to return to the Plains again later this month.

"(It) feels like home," he said.

QuoteChattanooga native and McCallie School product Jay Hardy shocked many in the recruiting world when he committed to Auburn over Tennessee in early November after being considered a heavy lean to join Jeremy Pruitt's Tennessee program...

Following the Early Signing Period, Hardy admitted he did not sign with Auburn but never wavered from his commitment to the Tigers.

This weekend, the dead period in recruiting came to an end with Tennessee hoping to work on Hardy in hopes of earning a flip of the four-star lineman from Chattanooga but that apparently won't be happening...

the McCallie School product did indeed sign with Auburn during the Early Signing Period.

Hardy's response:

You can have him.

How did Wildcats keep Vince Marrow? Mark Stoops credits Kentucky administration for stepping up

QuoteStoops could have lost his top assistant coach on multiple occasions this offseason as Youngstown State came calling for Vince Marrow to run its program after Bo Pelini left the YSU program for LSU and Michigan State came calling for Marrow to be an assistant under Mel Tucker.

While the bond that's developed between Stoops and Marrow in Lexington over the years may be strong, Kentucky's coach says he managed to keep his ace recruiter thanks to the school's outstanding administration.

Kentucky made Marrow one of the highest-paid assistants in the nation this offseason, agreeing to pay the assistant $900,000 annually through June 30, 2023. Outside of college coordinators — Sam Pittman (Georgia offensive line)...

Auburn putting 'full-court press' on Tennessee wide receiver commit Roc Taylor

Will new Auburn offer sway Oxford standout wide receiver Roc Taylor away from Tennessee?

4:02 PM · Jul 15, 2020·

QuoteAuburn has decided to put the "full-court press" on Oxford 3-star receiver and Tennessee commit Roc Taylor.

The Tigers officially joined the chase for the 6-foot-4, 225-pound senior by offering him this week.

"I talked to (Auburn) Coach (Gus) Malzahn," Taylor told AL.com on Wednesday. "He said, 'I know you are committed to Tennessee, but we are interested in you and we are going to be recruiting you very hard. We are going to be putting the full-court press on you.'"

He is currently ranked the No. 16 overall recruit in Alabama's Class of 2021... He said the Auburn offer was a "big deal," but also expressed surprise it didn't come earlier.

"I don't know if he was insulted or not," Oxford coach Keith Etheredge said. "I've just told him to be patient. I think maybe he was just sort of hurt because he had such a good year last year. He is a full tool kid. He can do everything. I like kids who play with a chip on their shoulder, and Roc is one. He wants to prove to everyone he is the best receiver in the state. He has that kind of swagger. He would be one of our best players at just about any position we played him."

Taylor has the body type to be a tight end in the SEC, but Auburn is recruiting him as a wide receiver and Etheredge said that is where he needs to play in college.

Taylor said he still feels good about his commitment to Tennessee but will "ride it out until the end of the season."

He is one of numerous Tennessee commits in this Alabama class, joining Dylan Brooks of Handley, Edwin White of UMS-Wright, Jordan Mosley of McGill-Toolen, Trinity Bell of Albertville and Jay Jones of Demopolis.

Kentucky is not on the offer list for Taylor from Oxford.
