LOL What a funky looking playing field what in the Hades is wrong with GREEN!
If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

Wow!! What a shock to the eyes!  It is unique though.

My grandfather always thought that teams should play on fields that are the same colors as their school colors. I think he might change his mind if he had actually saw some of these fields.

Most UCA people think this is the coolest thing ever. The rest of us here in Conway are embarrassed. I actually respect UCA and like coach Conque. However, if you have to paint your field purple to attention whore yourself out, you suck.

LR Hog

The only thing worse than that is putting black in your uniform color scheme ;)
Like a boss.

Personally, I like it, though it is a bit gawdy.

From a marketing perspective, this is the PERFECT move for UCA to do. When you're competing for talent against UofA and Arkansas State, you have to do something drastic to get attention.

Look at it this way:  How many of us actually noticed Boise State before they switched over to that abomination of a surface? Doubt many of us did. Once they switched, though, they got national attention for it.

UCA is no different. What they hoped to achieve with this switch is exactly what's happening:  Like it, love it or hate it, we're (speaking generally, not us hog fans specifically) talking about 'em. This, my friends, is the PERFECT marketing tool for the school. It gets them to the forefront of people's minds, nationally.

My hat is off to UCA for this. :)

Just dumb...I went to UCA for a while and when they first announced this it was April Fools Day.  Thought for sure it was a joke...sadly it was not

I graduated from UCA and I'm embarrassed. That is the gawd awfullest thing I've ever seen!!! #losing!!!!

No offense to UCA, but they aren't competing with the Hogs for anyone BP wants. They can cover the goal posts in gold and it won't help them.

Exactly right Douglas, I like it.  UCA is a school & football program on the rise.  Of course, I doubt they could ever rival the Hogs, but they'll pass Arkansas State one day.

NO ONE said they are competing with "BP" for recruits. Crap. They simply stated that they are in a state with two other division one football programs and are trying to make a little bit of a name for themselves.

Not to bad.....not to good either

Beats the hell out of that Boise crap though....

Pickinhog

I prefer a green field but all they are doing is trying to draw National attention to their program and who can blame them? I heard about it a month or so ago on a National sports show. Kid's like flashy stuff and I bet they get some recruits out of this they otherwise wouldnt have gotten. It's not us they're trying to impress.

I wonder how it'll hold up to summer sun in the South.   If it bleaches out at all, I can imagine it might look really bad.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Birminghog

If it bleaches out, it will go to a shade of pink.  They'll love that.

UCA is a good school.  I'm embarrassed for their alums.

Reminds me of the story my dad told me of when some females got together in the late 1920's and changed the Marvell High School colors from purple and gold to green and rose.  A really terrible cheer went along with it.  Didn't last for long, I don't think, because his letter sweater was purple and gold.

Same here, and the UCA field won't get PETA's dander up because of the stories of ducks taking a header into the field thinking it's a lake. Not sure what the field is supposed to attract, besides a home makeover show.

Boise has had blue turf for 25 years. I think the fact that they play good football has far more to do with why people are familiar with Boise, then because they play on blue turf.

Maybe you're right about it being a good marketing idea, but when marketing begins trumping everything else, I see a problem developing. I have no interest in watching football on a purple field, or one that's blue or red, either. Next we'll probably see someone place paisleys on their field, to show us how fancy they are, but that's just as dumb as a purple striped field.

Who'll be the first to add wings to their uniforms? They may serve no purpose, but they'll look cool. That's what matters most, right?

It's football... not design school.

This one's hard on the eyes as well, but not as bad as uca's.

Nope;   Nippert Stadium also features green turf,  so Cincy couldn't be an exemption.

Never has been, never will be;    Eastern Washington has the red turf.

It won't fade out... the same company that did Boise's (Constant snow/freezing climate) handled UCA's, I believe.  And they've been using this same technology in several Florida/California/Texas arenas without any degradation of color.

Hawgphish

Wilbon and his guest voiced thier opinion of the purple and gray turf.  Wilbon said it was confusing to alternate purple and gray.  His guest co-host said it made him have a seizure but gave UCA kudos for it because at least it got them a mention on PTI.  This colored turf fad...where will it end?

Hawgphish

UCA does not compete with the U of A for football players.

I bet it'll fade out when I go over there and piss on it every night.

I get your point about attracting attention. But I can assure you, the pictures do not do it justice. It is HOR-RI-BLE.

As an alum of Lu U, I am embarrassed.

I was asked several years ago for input from a committee on things that could be done to upgrade the atmosphere at UCA sporting events, especially football. With the leap in divisions, the school wanted to have a "big-time" atmosphere.

I suggested that whatever they came up with needed to be something that would become steeped in tradition, and winning, more than anything would put butts in the seats. But tradition would win the hearts of people interested in UCA.

What resulted, after polling many alumni, was something akin to what one would find at just about any arena league game.

This field does nothing but enhance UCA's Busch league take on college athletics.

But that's about what I would expect from a team whose coach wears his hat backwards during football games.

bennyl08

I like it. The alternating colors IMO would really help when you are sitting in the corner of the endzone and the team's on the other end of the field. Granted, I've never been a tradition type of guy. Life is about adapting and evolving, anything else will lead to extinction. I really thought the Mcfadden era uniforms were quite bad, though that stemmed mostly from the pants. While some of Oregon's colours don't work too well, most of their uniforms are pretty tight. Kudos to UCA though.

Just for UofA scrubs.

TebowHater

It may be rather original, but I was in Conway this weekend and it looks terrible.  The colors are too dull to even attempt a field like that.  It's also not going to give them the "camouflage" advantage that some people claim the colored feels give.  Waste of money.

At the current moment, UCA has not really been directly competing with the UofA for football players.  When UCA moves up to the FBS level from FCS level, then there will probably be some directly competing occurring.

One thing about it though, Clint Conque has really been utilizing the State of Texas for recruiting.  His latest Recruiting Class comprised of 14 Players from the State of Texas.  Here is information about 5 of those 14.

Robert Wheeler • 5-10, 180 • DB
Tyler, Texas • John Tyler HS
• Two-year starter
• 2010 14-4A All-District
• 2010 All-East Texas
• Two-time East Texas Pepsi Player of the Week
• 2010 East Texas Bowl selection
• 138 career tackles, 16 breakups, 5 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries
• Member of National Honor Society

When Robert Wheeler went up against Whitehouse's Trey Metoyer (the #2 Ranked WR in the Nation according to Rivals; Metoyer signed with Oklahoma), Wheeler limited Trey Metoyer to six catches for 59 yards and one touchdown.  It is impressive considering that Metoyer had been averaging nine receptions for 140 yards per game and more than two TDs per game.

Taurean Anderson • 6-0, 185 • DB
Cibolo, Texas • Steele HS
• 2010 5A Division II Texas State Champions
• Two-time All-District selection
• Three-year letterman in football and track (sprints)
• 112 career tackles, 7 interceptions, 16 pass breakups, 4 fumble recoveries

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Taurean-Anderson-104494

Dezmin Lewis • 6-4, 185 • WR
Mesquite, Texas • North Mesquite HS
• Two-year letterman in football and basketball
• 2010 All-District selection
• 2010 team MVP/Stallion Award
• 19 career receptions, 497 yards, 5 touchdowns, 26.2 yards per reception
• Member of National Honor Society

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Dezmin-Lewis-113218

Blake Gardner • 6-0, 170 • WR
Cibolo, Texas • Steele HS
• 2010 5A Division II Texas State Champions
• Two-time All-District selection
• Two-time All-San Antonio Metro selection
• Three-year letterwinner in football and track (sprints)
• 2011 Nominee for Texas Coaches Association All-Star Game
• 2009 Top 100 Texas Recruits
• 78 career receptions, school records with 1,328 yards and 18 touchdowns

DJ Willis • 6-1, 300 • DL
The Colony, Texas • The Colony HS
• Two-time 4-A All-District
• 2010 team Defensive MVP
• 2009 Texas 4-A State Runner-up
• 100 career tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 21 quarterback hurries, 1 touchdown

Meh, I disagree.  Boise went with the blue turf in 1986 and get headlines because they go undefeated every year.  There are other schools that have done this and get their 15 minutes... and then you never hear about their horrible looking field again.  UCA's football program is getting better; it doesn't make any sense to pull this stunt.

Adam Stokes

I just don't like the stripes.  The two silver stripes connecting at the 50 seem off balance to the rest of the field.  Just make the whole thing purple.
