Sorry if already posted, It is an interesting article with some quotes from ASU players about playing against the Hogs.

Albert Einswine

Those poor kids just don't understand.  It's not a rivalry just because one side wants it to be.

At some point before the end of time,  the game will be played, but it will never be a rivalry.

If nutt stays around for a while, this WILL become a rivalry. They could just get the in state leftovers that Pete Carroll doesn't want and make it a game.

if nutt loses to one of the other Sun Belt teams that we play besides A state it might.

If Arkansas and ASU ever meet on the football field, you might want to watch your frontside if you have on a Hog T-shirt.  See link below for further explanation......

We may not want to see Arkansas play Arkansas State, but......we don't have a leg to stand on as long as we're scheduling chipmunks like Troy, Florida International, Louisiana_Monroe, Southeast Missouri State, Missouri State and freakin' Chattanooga, for cryin' out loud.

Again, why should the Hogs play them.

However, if ASU would agree to play in Fayetteville, in October, I have no real problems with is.

LSu plays in state schools because the state govt mandated it.

Ou plays Tulsa for recruiting Tulsa area athletes.

Texas plays Rice to be seen in Houston.  Notice, Texas wont go near the other houston area team.

Ky/Eatern Ky?  Eastern Ky is d1aa.

The Fla schools all play each other for recruting reasons.

When I went to ASU, I wore Hog stuff all the time, even went to a couple games there wearing Razorback stuff, and dared any of them to try something.  Nothing ever happened.

The Sun has an article of that nature a few times every year.  It's nothing new, although I'm surprised their players are so eager to get a beating like what USC did to us the past couple of years.

Adram

as a fan of both teams, i do find it pathetic that UA will not play ASU.  What makes UA superior to the other top teams of other states?  the "we have something to lose" argument shows why the razorbacks will never be a championship team.  i've haven't heard of many championship teams shying away from such a small team b/c of "what if we lose?". that's quite the winning mindset. and for ppl saying it wouldn't be a rivalry, it would be b/c of all the effort UA has put forth not to play ASU.

A school who will not step up to someone like ASU b/c they are worried about the chance of losing will never be a championship team.

A friend of mine, an Old Miss alum, years ago told me of when they started playing So. Miss.  The first games were laughers.  The crowds would laugh everytime Ole Miss broke for another long run or pass, touchdown! Ole Miss (again).  Gradually So. Miss became more and more competitive until they were the best program in the state of Mississippi.  Ole Miss is not laughing anymore.

I am for playing ASU.  Especially since we play all the other Sunbelt schools.  Maybe when JFB is gone.  But be careful what you wish for.  If The University of Arkansas continues with this philosophy of the PTB, of just staying at a moderate level of competitiveness on the national level, some other state program will step up and take advantage of the vacuum.  That is what JFB fears.  Why he won't play them.  Does not want to give them the exposure.  Does not want UofA to be pressured to step up to the next level.

What do we have to gain by playing any team from the sunbelt. You guys already know the real reason, with Frank and his promise to Coach Barnhill. I hope the new AD doesn't have to make that promise to Frank, just to get the job. The Hogs do not have a rivalry, and desperately need one.

At some point before the end of time,  the game will be played, but it will never be a rivalry.

But you know it is possible that they might be a rivalry one day.  Say, we begun to play them as one of our tune-up games and they started raking in the money.  Using this money they upgraded their facilities and thus began to attract better players. Right, huh?

I am not against playing stAte in football, but the "keep the money in the state" argument doesn't hold much water with me.  The $500,000 we were going to give Tenn-Chat would go to stAte and the $500,000 Tennessee was going to give stAte would go to someone else.  It's basically a wash.  I do think most fans would be more interested in a game against stAte than against other SunBelt teams.

yeah even though the drawing power (revenue potential) for ASU is relatively Non- existant.

This is like a prize fight where one fighter is noteworthy, and can draw a crowd of paying customers and the other is a guy that was formerly a greeter for Wal Mart.

You cant split 50/50 when you own 99/1

That's why I don't think ASU is asking this.  Totally unreasonable.  They are just another Sun Belt program as far as the UA should be concerned.
"THE 'ARKANSAW RAZA'BACKS' ARE ON THE AIR!" - The late Bud Campbell at the beginning of each radio broadcast game.

NWAFellows

ASU vs UCA as an annual rivalry would be far more interesting for the state.

Saying UA vs ASU as a continued rivalry is like saying Troy should be on the schedule every year. When you're a rent-a-win, you can't honestly expect to rival programs that employ rent-a-wins.

ASU needs a fan-base that rivals that of the UA's in order to justify an in-state rivalry. They just don't have that.

budcampbellfan

ASU should be on the schedule once every several years like other Sunbelt schools if at all and should get the same financial deal the Sunbelt type schools get.
"THE 'ARKANSAW RAZA'BACKS' ARE ON THE AIR!" - The late Bud Campbell at the beginning of each radio broadcast game.

Our schedule is easy enough. Not only do we not need to play ASU, we need to take the other schools in their crappy conference off our schedule.

Like I said, let's play them once, spank em, shut em up, and move on.

VandyHog

I grew up in Florida where the universities all played each other and it was a lot of fun. Miami, for a long time, was not very good and I can remember when Florida dreamed of winning their first ever SEC championship.  I'm not a huge Miami fan, but you knew something was up when Howard S. walked out onto Florida field and planted that Miami flag in the middle of their logo.  Sure enough, the first Miami national championship was not far behind. To this day, it was the boldest thing I've ever seen a coach do, but talk about firing up his players and fans. Unbelievable.

I don't know how Arkansas State would do, I don't follow them closely enough to know. But frankly, I would just as soon see the Razorbacks schedule them as Chattanooga or Florida International (although Florida International can put up one heck of an on-field riot!).

Now that's something I can agree with but I think the main problem is that ASU doesn't consider themselves a rent-a-win - at least not when it comes to the UofA.

think of the money that would stay instate and still count as much except in recruiting depending on how you look at it to play ASU or/and UCA?

Look u think a kid in LA that is a stud prospect and lives near hmmmm lets say SW LA State care if we beat that team, think that going effect his choice?  if it is between AR and SW LA State then we are after the wrong type of recruite anyway.  As a sales person that is lame.  "but it is LA exposure" hell no it isn't we are playing them in NW arkansas.  kids from that area that are top recruits don't care who the hell beats that school IMO.

I live about 25 miles from their campus. They're ridiculous. You should check out their message board sometime. Tribalgrounds.....I think. I used to occassionally post there just to get them all fired up, but they always come back with really lame and immature arguments that rarely hold any clout, and even more rarely ever make complete sense. It's basically a "wannabe" program with a bunch of kids who really play hard. It's not the players that are clueless, it's the athletic department and the fans. A friend of mine at work put it best when he said they're so worried about catching up to the Hogs that they can't see that UCA is about to catch them. If we played ASU, we'd beat them by 40 at least. If they played UCA, it would be a great game. I'll sum it up for you.....they're still boasting about beating the Hogs.....in GIRL'S BASKETBALL!!!!!!!!!!

We used to do the same about Texas, woman's basketball that is.

Honestly? I'd like the game. First game every season played in Little Rock.

Would be much better than playing a Louisiana directional school AND letting the LA school be the home team so they can take the attendance figures and keep their D1 status.......that gets to me for some reason...

The last time they met 2/5th's of UCA's line was recently departed from UofA

Pretty sure Don Strubing was at center and Landon Lambert was at left tackle.  UCA's right tackle was some dude so big he barely fit in a desk in class.
