Evidently, the Texas Racing commission is no longer allowing internet betting through Twin Spires in Texas.  I checked my balance today and it was zeroed out.  So, I called Twin Spires and they informed me that the Texas Racing Commission has banned Twin Spires from taking bets in Texas.  They are sending me a check in the mail with my balance including my points.  They said they are appealing the decision.  Anyone have an alternative website to play on?  I have been with Twin Spires for at least 6 years and this really sucks.

By reading the decision in the above link it looks like any internet betting is now banned in Texas.

That sucks man , how far are you from Sam Houston ? That might be an option ...

mckinneyhog5

Closer to Lone Star but when I'm betting I bet often.  I'm in school and don't have time to drive 45 minutes to get there and 45 back.  Looks like my horse racing will be done for awhile.  Maybe I will go there on big race days like the Breeders Cup.  Oh well....

However on my last night I had $20 to win on a 26-1 shot in Australia.  Due to school I was playing a lot at night on the Australia tracks and had actually gotten pretty good handicapping them.

This happened to me in the late 1990s when New Jersey did the same thing. Said they didn't want outside companies "poaching" the action from within the state. Which is understandable to a degree, except that NO ALTERNATIVE was offered.

My account at Philly Park was canceled, although my account at the NYRA tracks was not, since the account was also good for ontrack wagering. Happily, I managed to find a backdoor way to get to an operator and bet over the phone despite the prohibition.

Finally, about 5 years ago or so, New Jersey established its own web/phone betting system. Earlier this year or late last year, they basically farmed it out to TVG.

Unless the Texas problem is related to the "evils" of Internet gambling, don't be surprised to see Texas establish its own program under the auspices of a third-party vendor, such as TVG or Xpressbet.

Sorry man , your a good handicapper , I always look forward to your insight !

you can play the horses on sportsbook.ag and they will also pay you a rebate on your wagers, it does take up to a week to get your checks though when you make a withdrawal and you are only allowed one per month but this is a legit website, I play all my sports betting there for football, etc

Try TVG???
look, its the state Legislature that passed the law in Texas for NO ON-LINE GAMBLING....the Texas State Racing Commission is merely enforcing the law that our dumbass legislators passed here in the state of Texas...why did the legislature want to do such a thing ?  they believe that horse players will drive hundreds of miles to go to an off track facility at Sam Houston, Lone Star Park and Retama Park. No coincidence (wink) that these 3 facilities are located in the 3 largest markets in the state of Texas, being San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas. I called my local state legislator here in Texarkana, who, by the way, was one of only 14 of 150 state legislators who voted against this law which was passed in 2011. The reason Texans had been able to bet on-line since the passage of this bill in 2011 is because TWINSPIRES, INC. and their lawyers put up appeal after appeal at every level of jurisprudence thus holding up the implimentation of the law for 2 years. Well, the final judgement came down last week in Austin, in the Western Texas Court of Appeals and Twin Spires lost. Thus we on-line bettors in Texas are "dead men walking"....sad but true.....I just cannot believe Texas cannot see the regressiveness of this law. The state of Texas is just way too big (in size) to expect a law like this to work. Anyway, like Obamacare, sometime legislators lose their collective ability to produce legislation with plain common sense.

ad: as far as using TVG, they don't offer Texas service because of the law above having been  passed. We people who live in Texas will have to go out of country to be able to bet on the ponies.....what is sad, is that not 4 miles from where I live, there is RADIO FREE ARKANSAS where TVG is allowed....its unbelievebale when you really think about it
The long Grey line will never fail our country.

I thought about having my nephew set-up an account and I would just play through it.  That's what I will probably end up doing.

you'll have to have him set it up and play on his computer....don't think the account will work if opened from a port in the state of Texas, even if the original port and account came from Arkansas...not for sure....if it works, be sure to let me know because my daughter lives on the Arkansas side of Texarkana

When I traveled to different states I was always able to access my account.  I think the address of the user and the bank account associated has to be in that state and that's it.  Residency is the key, although it sucks because I wont be able to play Oaklawn because he lives in Arkansas.

Why wouldn't you be able to play Oaklawn if he sets up the account in Arkansas? I play on Twinspires and live in Arkansas and have always been able to play Oaklawn. I must be missing something.

I couldn't play tracks in Arkansas when I lived there and couldn't play tracks in Texas when I moved down here.

With Twinspires?

I have always played Oaklawn on Twinspires when I wasn't at the track. I don't know what the difference would be.

Rendezvous Cook

Twinspires and Arkansas allow in state wagering on Oaklawn.  Done it for 10 years.

Maybe it was a YouBet account that I had when I lived in Arkansas.  YouBet was bought out by Twin Spires when I moved to Texas.  I know I couldn't bet Texas tracks ever with my Twin Spires account while I have lived here.  That's good to know.

"I couldn't bet Texas tracks ever with my Twin Spires account while I have lived here."

And that is ridiculous as well; thanks Texas legislature again.

I live here and it makes no sense as to why the legislature cut 10 million from schools in Texas last session, but allows many millions to go to other states in casino gambling. And they are worried about only getting 2% of the cut on internet bets for horseracing? Sure hope Twinspires wins the appeal.  Texas racing.... not a lot to be excited about at this point in time.

cbhawg03

Sorry, but I never thought there was any Texas racing that was ever worth getting excited about.

Only time was when Lone Star had the Breeders Cup. I went to that, but that track can't handle that many people.

Agreed, Assmussen owns Lone Star.  Payouts sucked when I actually went there and played.
