Uhm. #1 player in the country decommitted from Washington. His father, former Missouri Women's b-ball coach, was let go from the Washington staff. Word is Cuonzo at Missouri is thinking about hiring his dad. Kid is originally from Missouri.

How 'bout we hire his dad and get 6'8" 5* swing man, eh?

Things worked out so well when we hired Marcus Monk a few years back, why not do it again?

Graduate Asst is much different than a normal Assistant. As a GA is still a student

You can't hire someone who isn't getting paid.

Mizzou is about to get some really good players. SEC isn't going to be a weak conference for much longer.

Cuonzo Martin has always been able to recruit but never able to coach or win. I'm not worried about him and Missouri.

mizzouman

If Mizzou gets him, and that's still up in the air, the flood gates will open in recruiting.  Jeremiah Tilmon a 5* commit to Illinois will be rethinking.  Potentially two 5* guys coming in, plus Illinois state player of the year in Mark Smith.  This class could go from signing one 4* guy to two 5* and three 4*.

But, all this really depends on MPJ.

2 tournement appearances in 9 years is nothing to write home about. But he isn't terrible

Tell us about California's recruiting classes under Martin.  I heard Ronnie Wingo might reconsider his career at Arkansas and switch to Missouri as well!

Agreed.  He is a decent coach.  Definitely a good hire for Missouri and a step up from their last guy.  But, hell, they beat us this year and we still should've made it to at least the Sweet 16.  We'll be ok.

I say Heck yeah.  But Mike would never do this.  His staff is too close to him.

Not officially and a lot of things can happen.  If he did, it won't be announced until after MPJ has been released from his NLI.

He had to beat Mercer to make it. Mike has had to beat UNC.

Cuonzo Martin beat Umass and Mercer to get to the Sweet 16. Talk about luck of the draw.

Meanwhile, Arkansas gets UNC their last two appearances. Wish Mike had Cuonzo's dumb luck.

Arkansas has had and been ousted by the Tar Heels their last THREE appearances, crazily enough.

The SEC hasn't been a weak conference in a while.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Michael Porter Jr's comparables in recruiting circles has been Kevin Durant. He's the Natl POY on the mythical Natl Champion that he played on with his younger brother. Mother and father both have big time ties to Mizzou. Dad was on the staff for Lorenzo Romar who is MPJr's Godfather. If CM pulls this off Mizzou will be an instant tournament possibility next year. Damn sure hope he goes to oklahoma where his buddy committed and not bring his buddy to Mizzou.
Just sitting on the deck with a cold beer and a hot tequila watching the razorbacks roam.

mizzouman

Looks like Porter Sr to be announced as assistant coach very soon.

Bacon_Bitz

New coach. New assistant coach hired just to land his son and his buddies. A few one and dones with one foot out the door. A bunch of leftover scrubs from a historically bad team. Actually sounds like a recipe for disaster.

songofthesword

nah he's not KD. he's not as fluid an athlete or as tall as KD or as good a shooter.   game reminds me more of Tim Thomas than KD which isn't a knock Tim Thomas had game and was the number 7 overall pick in the 97 draft

3kgthog

Hiring dad sounds even worse than us hiring Gus to get Mitch. At least they aren't trying to hide their intentions. I guess Mizzou finally got tired of losing.

Dads daughters play for Mizzou.  The kids grew up in Columbia. Aunt is the head coach of the women's team. Dad was an assistant there before.  Family wanted to move back. Apples and oranges.

Yeah I kinda agree with this. It's not like the guy is some HS coach they are asking to be an assistant. He's been a college assistant for awhile now.

He's not that elite of a player to instantly turn Mizzou into a tournament team.

I expect him to have the "instant impact" that Ben Simmons had for LSU.

I saw the Porter kid play on tv and even though he had good skills for a 6'9 guy he looked soft to me.

Goes back at least as far as Danny Manning's dad leaving a truck driving job in NC to take a spot on the KU coaching staff.
I am a Hog fan. I was long before my name was etched, twice, on the sidewalks on the Hill. I will be long after Sam Pittman and Eric Mussleman are coaches, and Hunter Yuracheck is AD. I am a Hog fan when we win, when we lose and when we don't play. I love hearing the UA band play the National Anthem on game day, but I sing along to the Alma Mater. The guy has been a collegiate basketball coach for years. Yeah if he didn't have a son that was a top recruit I doubt Mizzou would bring him in but dude has still been coaching for awhile.

Porter is good. I expect him to have a bigger impact than Simmons just because Porter's game translates better to college Bball. That being said. Mizz is till not good around him and he will only be there one year

He was already a coach at Mizzou in the past. It's not like the guy doesn't already have ties to the school. It makes plenty of sense.

HawgnCorona

He most likely will only be there 1 yr. Then Mizzou will be back to bottom feeders. Not that Porter will cause all boats to rise with the tide. Stay tuned...
