That's a pretty athletic roster. Worried about the OL though, no telling how that will turn out.. For all we know they might be an All American type group with Kurt Anderson out of the picture!

I think everyone that played DE in the 3-4 last year will be all inside guys other than Agim

And I say Foucha is our HoneyBadger, and will start at Nickel.

I believe that we had good and sometimes high SEC quality players on the roster last year. I also believe that we have a bunch of them back this year. What we lacked last year was a common goal or more bluntly good leadership.

Offense-
LT- Jackson, Wagoner
LG- Froholdt, Adcock
C-  Merrick, Hays
RG- Gibson, Clary
RT- Wallace, Clennin
I think the SEC experience will be hard for the younger guys to beat and with GOOD coaching towards a set system that forces the defense to actually read what the offense is doing the kids from last year could flourish. Putting Merrick at center gets another older guy in the lineup.

QB-  Kelley, Hyatt or Noland - I guess everyone thinks Storey is gone so I will play along.
RB- Whaley Hayden, Williams and Boyd - I think Hammonds moves to a slot position.

TE- O'Grady, Patton, Gragg

WR1- Martin, Jackson, Pettway
WR2- Jones, Nance, Cross
WR3- Cornelius, Hammonds, Stewart, Barnes

Defense-
DE- Agim, Smith, TaylorII
DT- Guidry,  Marshall
DT- Capps, Watts, Ferrell
DE- Gerald, Bell, Richardson
I think TJ drops weight and moves to the strong DE to back-up Agim while Bell fits more like Gerald(SPEED) Ramsey becomes more of a specialist.

WLB- Greenlaw, Morgan, Fischer
MLB- Harris, LaFrance
SLB- Jean-Baptiste, Henry, Walker

Nickel- Ramsey, Tutt, Munson

CB- Pulley, Calloway
CB- Curl, Tutt

SS- Ramirez, Miller, Foucha
FS- Brown, Edwards, Mason

I truly hope that Morris redshirts as many of his 1st class as he possibly can. If we see guys like Parker, Woods, Foucha or Mason in the rotation during late spring practices we will get a pretty darned good idea of positions that WILL have attrition.
We have to lose 5 scholarship players as of today. Having a signee in the 2-deep sends a VERY clear message.

hawginbigd1

My guesses different than lakecityhog:

C- Hays, Malone, or Adcock
RG- Merrick
Add Barkley to the RB depth
Add Gunter and possibly Kraus to TE depth
Move smith to DT, also there is not a NT in the 4-3
Ramsey is at SLB
Tutt or Curl at nickel
CB- Calloway
Mason or Brown start at FS
Ramirez has a short leash at SS, could become a nickel or dime LB, which I think he could do well.

Bubba's Bruisers

I'd just like to be in a position to RS some of our name freshmen...Noland, all the OL, Ferrell, Fulwider, Pool, Parker, Bishop, and 1 of the S's.

As long as his rehab goes well, I suspect Koilan Jackson is going to be a player for us.  I also think this staff finds a way to get Jarrod Barnes some touches out of the slot.

I hope Kendrick Jackson gets a look at LB. He was the 2nd ranked MLB in the state of La. per Scout in 2015. I went back and looked at his tape, he decleats people. I'm not sure how fb plays into this O, but seems like we could use him on the other side.

The_Iceman

Why is the hell do I see people putting Boyd ahead of Devwah Whaley? Whaley was the overall #3 running back coming out of high school. When this staff slims him up and gets his quickness back, he will be out lead back, or co-lead at worst.

East TN HAWG

I believe we will be surprised by some of the redshirts: Adcock, Clenin, Curtis, Fisher, Hernandez, Baptiste, LaFrance, Jackson, McCellion, Munson, Paul and Porter and Wagner.   Several of these were rated has high as some of the freshman we signed this year.

From what I read last year, I think Curtis will be above Foucha next season.  Also, I think Fisher may play as well.  Taylor may be good enough to move Agim inside.   Who knows until spring, but I bet Most of the freshman redshirt with so many veterans returning.  I don't think many play outside of the jucos.

Chavis has already spoken about Agim and said he would be an outside rusher. They may trim his weight down (most likely) to give him greater quickness and speed off the edge, but based on what has been said, I think he remains at DE and this is the scheme/philosophy and DC that he has been waiting for. Watch for him to be able to lay his ears back and apply pressure.

It will be interesting to see how baseball affects this. My understanding is he has huge pro prospects there. If so, you definitely do NOT redshirt him if he is needed. That said, I don't see him playing at QB year 1 so he very well redshirt by virtue of never seeing the field.

I wouldn't be surprised if Noland Redshirts this year and is one of Dave Van Horn's Diamond Hogs in the spring of 2019.

Curl is NO DOUBT a very good player and I cannot see a true freshman beating him out. He should be opposite of Pulley this year.

Most of Hogville is like a kid on Christmas, what is the newest toy? VERY FEW if any of the incoming class should start, period! Who in this class is rated higher than Brown? Who in this class has the coverage skills and experience of Pulley? Do you really believe that Boyd is a better RB than Whaley? EVERYONE wanted Whaley!

We have good players on the roster RIGHT NOW, play them and get the best out of them

Tim Harris

Some of these are tough to tell since the thread title is starting line up but then lists multiple people per position.  I'm not sure if that is the overall depth chart or what.  Here is my best guess without seeing how they do in the Spring.

Offense-
LT- Jackson
LG- Froholdt
C- Clennin
RG- Gibson
RT- Wallace
QB- Kelley
RB- Hayden
TE- Patton
WR1- Martin
WR2- Jones
WR3- Cornelius

Defense-
DE- Agim
DT- Guidry
DT - Marshall
DE- Gerald
WLB- Greenlaw
MLB- Harris
SLB - Ramsey
CB - Pulley,
CB - Calloway
SS- Ramirez
FS- Curl
Nickel- Foucha

I think we need more speed at the nickel, I could see Brown or Calloway there. I expect Foucha and Mason to be in the two deep at safety. I think the secondary should be better for sure.

Cinco de Hogo

Not gonna try adding to subtracting from anyone's post but I do have a question and my answer.

Who is going to call the plays on defense? (On the field)

My answer is Dre Greenlaw backed by Grant Morgan.  In fact I believe Morgan would be the best but on the other hand he may not see the field that much.   We have a lot of "good" players!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Grant Morgan see more of the field this year. From all appearances, the kid is a gamer. He seems to understand that if you grasp the defensive concept and you are aligned properly at the snap, you are given a chance to make a play and he is an aggressive pursuer of the ball. He is probably an undervalued defensive performer with less than the typical and ideal measureables for a player of his position. Still, the kid gets everyone lined up as they should be and he makes plays. It obviously goes without saying that I like him as a player.

Quickness back? It's been two years and I haven't seen quickness from Whaley. Maybe you saw him in HS.

In my original post, I put all RBs in no order because they all are good. I put Tutt over Curl because Tutt would've started last year if it wasn't for injury. Tutt is FAST!

Both should make each other better through competition. There isn't anything like bringing in a JC Transfer to your position to motivate you to be better. Whaley will probably drop some weight and become quicker at the snap. Who comes out on top remains to be seen but just remember that Hayden, Maleek Williams, Hammonds and Maleek Barkley will be in competition as well.

You haven't been watching, 2016 Whaley was much more agile and quick than the 2017 version, and he was still a very good back in a bad OL scheme, Williams had a little more juice because he wasn't here long enough for the Herb bulking treatment.

Competition is good. Too many players where penciled in as starters without competition when the last guy on the sidelines was here.

When I think of quick Im thinking Mcfadden, Jones and Talley. I apologize I remember when Arkansas had some quick backs.

Whaley was elusive in 2016 but I haven't seen the burst. I haven't seen the quickness. He's a solid back but just a bit overrated coming out of HS from what I've seen. Whaley running style should get him on the field. He's a downhill runner.

Knowledge, instinct and anticipation are the things needed other that sheer athletic ability and i'm convinced that Grant and Drew have a special gift in those departments.  I saw Grant almost 100% of the time alighn himself properly for were the ball was going and despite what he might lack in speed he closes fast and makes a sure tackle.  Now we might have another player that shows those abilities AND has superior athletic ability and if we do that person will be the guy but if it's Grant Morgan I won't be disappointed.

Elusive and that long run was vs UAB. I'm grading on a different scale. I've seen great and good backs at Arkansas. Whaley will play because he's a different runner. Solid back so far.
