He's very athletic for a 5.  He's utterly outmatched by the top end 4s, and will struggle while trying to hold his own against the rest, especially in a league that is putting more pressure on 4's to be able to run the floor and shoot from up to 18 feet.

The thing is that he's 7 foot, and many NBA players at that height are expected to also spell some minutes at PF, which to be frank, Hill doesn't have the athleticism to do.   He needs another year to work on his game, establish himself as an all-around center working on defensive rebounding and a few low post moves in particular  -- I'd love to see a baby hook and the drop step.

No offense my man, but Steven Hill appears to be very athletic. Not many 7 feet people can run the floor and jump like he can. I will agree that his ball handling (incl. passing) could improve along with maybe a better understanding of court awareness could improve. But I really think that he has alot of "it" which you can't teach.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Just remember Andrew Lang. Long NBA career & never much of a scorer.
Yeah, Andrew Lang played 11 or 12 years in the NBA. His offense was not stellar, but he could block shots. Steven Hill has similar skills.
I think Andrew still works for the Hawks (chaplain or something like that).

Lang was a miserable offensive player and was no where close to Hill on defense.  He was easily faked off his feet and never learned to play (while at the UofA) without fouling.

If Lang was miserable on offense what is Hill? Lang could and did hang 20 on folks and averaged double figures.

He was a much better post position defender than Hill and had better end to end speed and quickness than Hill.

Hill's only two NBA assets at this point in his career are his length and his athleticism. His lack of rebounding is a huge problem for him as well.

I know he will get his shot at the next level but he has a lot of work to do if he wants to stick around the league. There isn't a shortage of athletic 7 footers in the NBA these days.
Bless your heart

Unless he has changed his mind. The last thing I heard out of his hometown is that he didn't want to play pro basketball. He was starting to get burnt-out but maybe this year will change his mind.

i bet he'll come to his senses when he sees a 6 or 7 figure salary looking straight at him. heck, if your like me, just play for 4 or 5 years - live off of that money forever - and pursue whatever it is that you love from there on out. a couple million in the bank for safety plus whatever your dream job will pay you is "the good life"  to me.

if he keeps this up then they might start looking at him.  you gotta show me this isn't just a good couple of games.

last i heard he was thinking about going after this year before they year started, so now he might for sure.

He can't go pro after this year. His lack of offensive game is just disheartening. If he could come up with any sort of decent jumper or signature shot, his stock would skyrocket.

Whoa whoa whoa!  Steven has NEVER suggested leaving after this year...EVER!  And he's never been burned out...wanting to play Pro is a new goal since he came to college but that's it!!!  I don't know where you guys getting your information from (a friend of a friend who thinks they know him really well??)!  And, get off the offensive thing people...he RARELY touches the ball...if he did have a "jumper" or "signature shot" as you say, you wouldn't know it because last game he touched the ball MAYBE 4 times!  Goodness, you guys need to do some research...you're killing me.

bump for basketball -- tommorrow is gameday!

Obviously, Hill has improved by leaps and bounds(no pun intended), but another season of college ball would benefit his game tremendously.  Hill will be able to play in the NBA just on his defense alone, and if he can improve on the offense, do even more, his NBA success will depend a lot on the team he goes to.  In the right situation, he could really flourish.  I think he'll stay for another season, then go on to have a solid pro career.

I have read this entire thread and all i can say is WOW.

Some of you guys actually think SH is going to play in the NBDL. Joe Kleine thinks he is NBA material. The question in is only a matter of when.

One of the things that excites the NBA about Stevenis his willingness to run the floor as a 5. Those of you that say he can't play offense, can you imagine him making the other teams center hustle back on D. Defensively, Steven can play on the next level already. Steven can rebound, but you cant block and alter everything in the paint and rebound too, the guy who got beat is supposed to go get the board and the shot you altered. That is how it is designed so dont blame steven for that.

If Hill can develop a dropstep next year, he will be a lottery pick. That is why he should stay and learn and then get  paid for REAL, as a lottery pick.
