If Arkansas has to go the UP and COMER route.  Who would you take if all of the current head coaches (Malzahn, Norvell, Leach, etc) were to say NO?

My first thought would be Rick Jones at Greenwood HS.

No Power 5 team is hiring a High School coach for an HC position.

I think you might go back and look at his history.  He is one of the best around.  His age is the only draw back.

If Arkansas goes up and comer it's Norvell.

Silent

Rick will retire from Greenwood.  He's a walking God here.

Rudy Baylor

Spot on

Either Rick Jones or Gary Gibbs or Clint Conque

HC Rick Jones
OC Clint Conque
DC Gary Gibbs

JONAS

I want Norvell.  According to Memphis fans that I have talked to, they think he is staying.  Haha.

I respect Coach Jones in every way possible.  Arkansas would probably rather he stay where he is at as Greenwood HS has been dominant at the 6A Level and is a great feeder program.

This is the best part of the article.

On January 14, 2016, Wilson was hired as the new head coach of the UTSA Roadrunners. Wilson replaced Larry Coker, who resigned on January 5.

Coach Wilson lead UTSA to their first ever bowl game in his first season as coach. Following the season Wilson and his staff secured the #1 ranked recruiting class in C-USA according to the Rivals.com rankings. Wilson's first full class finished 69th in the nation. UTSA had never before finished higher than 103rd prior to this class.

I wouldn't really classify him as an up and comer.

Maybe not in the traditional sense, but he is an up and comer

I'd much rather have an up and comer like him that has worked out his personal and coaching kinks than some unknown.

People completely misunderstand Kiffin.

If by this you mean someone who's not currently a HC, I'd say Venables or, much longer reach, Spavital at WVU.

Gus Malzahn is not an up and comer. He has been there done that.

So for an up and comer to me would be a OC or DC or Assistant head coach or a head coach from a lower division or a lower rating conference. Not a head coach that has a winning record in the toughest conference in the country or the top five strongest conferences.

Please not Lame Kiffin or Nutt. Come on guys you want to win every year or just once in a while?

Yup, I wasn't trying to slight the Greenwood fella when I made the comment earlier. Only making a point that an AD/school is not going to roll the dice on an unproven commodity that hasn't worked/competed on that level. That would be like Ford promoting the owner of the #1 dealership in Little Rock to be the CEO of the entire company. To much risk for the reward.

First name I thought of when I opened this thread.  He used to coach the high school team close to where I live.   Knows the SEC (Ole Miss/Tenner/LSU) can recruit.

RockyMtnHog

I would look for a coach who has won the Broyles Award.  Not all of them are current head coaches.
