NCAA won't allow LSU's Ed Orgeron to speak at Phenix City event

Orgeron had been scheduled since February to speak at the annual Phenix City Mayor's Education and Charity Ball on Saturday. However, mayor Eddie Lowe said the NCAA recently ruled against the idea.

"Because we have 'education' in our name and we give scholarships, they said he could not go and speak," said Lowe, a former Alabama football star. "In their view, they think it's a platform for recruiting, so they will not allow him to do it."

Lowe said his office went through multiple appeals to the NCAA, but received final word last week that Orgeron would not be approved. Booger McFarland, a former LSU and NFL player and current ESPN analyst, will take Orgeron's place...
