Arkansas’ shift to the 3-4 defense is going to require some big bodies to play nose tackle. Recruits who fit that description are beginning to take notice.

Parkway North (St. Louis) 2018 defensive tackle Michael Thompson recently told Land of 10’s Luke Srodulski the Razorbacks have his attention.

“They’ve got big D-linemen up front,”  Thompson said. “That would probably fit me a lot. I’m big.”

Thompson checks in at 6-foot-4, 290 pounds. And his assumption is correct.

Thompson is a 4-star recruit and the No. 75 overall prospect in his class.

Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma are also among his more than 20 offers.

Gavin Lewis is still awaiting an offer from one of the state's Big 2, but major programs from outside Alabama's borders are in pursuit of the Bob Jones 2018 defensive end.

The latest offer for the 6-foot-4, 265-pound Lewis came from Colorado over the weekend. The Buffaloes join a list of suitors that include Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Purdue, Troy and South Alabama.

Lewis doesn't currently have a star rating from any of the big recruiting services, but he's playing for a coach - Kevin Rose -

Gooden, 6-4, 320 pounds, of Independence Community College in Kansas has approximately 15 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi State, Missouri, Georgia, Missouri and Louisville.

Gooden was a 4-star prospect out of Haywood High School in Brownsville, Tenn. [Tony Delk], and committed to Mississippi State for the 2016 class, but had to make his way to junior college.

A four-star defensive tackle out of Nashville Christian School became the fifth in-state recruit to commit to Butch Jones in 30 days.

“I loved the atmosphere,” he told 247 Sports. “It was crazy that left a big impact as well. I’ve had the feeling for a real long time, just waiting to make the decision at the right time I’ve always felt that way about the school.”

Lawless is the eighth-ranked recruit in the state of Tennessee, and No. 25 in the nation at his position of defensive tackle. He chose Jones and the Volunteers over SEC rivals Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, and also spurned an offer from Ohio State, whom he had recently visited.

With Lawless on board, Tennessee now has the No. 2 ranked recruiting class for 2018, behind only LSU.

Ellis is 6-foot-2, 286 pounds and a rising sophomore at Georgia Military College. His offer sheet includes Colorado, East Carolina, Georgia State and North Carolina State. The entire Florida coaching staff now follows him on Twitter, so SEC offer No. 2 could soon be on the way.

For now, he lists South Carolina and North Carolina State as his favorites.

Cheney, a 4-star 2019 defensive tackle from Atlanta, Ga., has visited Columbia several times this year and he continues to list the Gamecocks present the biggest threat to the Dawgs [sic]. According to 247Sports, he’s ranked as the No. 9 defensive tackle in the Class o' '19.

Five-star defensive end K.J. Henry, who’s also Indianapolis bound, wasn’t in Columbia. His dad, Keith, was one of several coaches from Charlotte assisting at the Gamecocks camp.

4-star Ferriday defensive lineman Dare Rosenthal gave his verbal pledge to Ed Orgeron

Quote
6-foot-7, 327-pound lineman is a top-250 prospect. Rosenthal is the state’s No. 8 overall prospect and the No. 21 defensive tackle in the country. During LSU’s offensive-defensive lineman camp Saturday, he worked out at both end and tackle, and also has the ability to play offensive tackle, as well.

Rosenthal is a one-time Alabama pledge, but de-committed last spring.

Jamarcus Chatman, a 3-star defensive end from Georgia, opted to de-commit from LSU

Quote
Chatman, a standout defensive lineman from Rome (Ga.) High School, gave his verbal pledge to Ed Orgeron during the Tigers’ spring game in April along with high school teammates Adam Anderson and Ja’Quon Griffin. The Peach State trio was considered a package deal and all made their way to Baton Rouge with offers from LSU already in hand.

Chatman’s decision comes just hours removed from an unofficial visit to Tennessee on Saturday and the addition of two more defensive front-seven players for LSU.
