Can this team beat a Saban coached Alabama team?

Your thoughts!

ErieHog

Yes.    It'll come down to not turning the ball over, though.    If we turn the ball over, it can be a long day.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

If we can do it by running the ball every play, yes. If we have to throw it any at all, no.

HamHands

YES, we have two weeks to get ready. Nathan Dick will get two more weeks of prep. We will be allright.
One day at a time.

I'm going to the game in Tuscaloosa. Likely my only game to see this year. Here's what I expect to see. DMc - 120 yds and 1 TD, Felix - 80 yds and 1 TD, Dick - 10-25 for 90 yds. and 0 TD; JPWilson - 320 yds and 4 TDS. Bama will stomp a mudhole in our a&* unless a miracle happens in our passing game and secondary.

We will beat bama. John Parker Wilson is not mobile and in my opinion not any better than Casey.  Tonight was just what we needed to see, a lot of passing.

GrumpyHog

I have a gut feeling were going to be in serious trouble. The defense gives up 20 to a Sun Belt team, how many will they give up to a SEC team on the road?

1highhog

I don't think Dick is the answer at QB, but I think we will do all right at Bama.  First game of the year folks, there was a big difference from the 1st to the 2nd halves, did anyone see the LSU-MSU game?  LSU looked bad to me, but I bet they'll be okay, as will the Hogs.  I'm not one who's saying we're looking at a 10 win season, especially the way we played tonight, but I'll gaurantee 9 if someone's willing to make a wager. ;)

hoglady

Yes - we can and will beat Alabama.
You'd think we just got beat when I look at the mindset on this board.
I guess Texas will lose every game they play this year cause A State played them so close.
I guess Michigan won't win any games this year cause Appl. State beat them.
We'll find out how good or bad we are when we play Bama.

How bad were we first game last year? How good were we after that? We will improve so all the darksiders can get over it

LOL, beat who? Troy will be the only win over an Alabama team this year, bank on it. 6-6 or 7-5 at best kids. Nutt hates us and he is a selfish little man who would rather lose 5-6 games HIS way than go undefeated someone else's way. :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

Troy is also alot better than I think most people thought they would be on here.  They'll win the SB again, even though I was sure pulling for A-State to beat Texas, maybe they will give Troy a run.

Now I'm generally more optimistic than average about our chances at Bama, but let's not go off the deep end.   JP Wilson is probably in the top 4 of SEC QBs right now (Woodson, Tebow, Nickson,  Wilson).

I wonder how fast Cox will be back and ready to play-- I hate to say it, but if he is out for our game with Auburn in Fayetteville, the early season is shaping up a little better than we might have hoped for, given tonight's performance.

Tonight was a C+  ;  to win regularly in the SEC, we need better.

I'll wait and see Bama against Vanderbilt.   I said the same thing last year after USC spanked us.  So I'll wait and see.

I'm going to watch Troy-Florida next week, to see if Troy does anything offensively;  I will feel marginally better if they put a few points on the board there.

I wonder if all of the good folks over in Alabama look at those rushing Arkansas rushing stats and wonder how their defense is going to stop Arkansas and get the ball back. Last time I looked, Sabin wasn't suiting up and playing defense. And since we weren't such a passing threat last year, I kind of think the Hogs have proved they can run against SEC defenses without much of a passing game. The Hogs have two weeks to get CD in a better place in the offense and Arkansas will roll the Tide! WPS!

Razorbackssports

No we won't if the defense comes out and plays like they did in the 1st Half of this game. They were leaving some of Troy's WR open down the field , allowing them to pass on us and gain momentum. Apparently, they made adjustments at half-time, or this game might have still been close at the end. But, I do think if the defense comes out at Alabama and does that same performance they did during the 1st half of this game then there will be some trouble. What do you all think?

The only flaw in your logic is that, at some point, "mighty" Casey will be asked to throw the ball; and when he does, God help us all.

Yeah, I think we can beat Alabama, but we can't line up and try to beat them with the rush every play. If we don't have a few successful passing plays then we will not win.

Well take a look at Auburn right now. I'd say they are aren't hitting on all cylinders - K State is ahead and Auburn's offense looks like crap - only 9 pts going into the 4th quarter.

I know they can. We have before and we'll do it again. Osabin been lyin doesn't change anything. We need to make some secondary adjustments and learn to catch a punt, but we have the talent to run all over the field on them. We need Harrison back on the line and Monk out wide and Reggie Fish on the bench where he belongs.

I have no idea. I don't know anything about it. I just click the first server on the list, follow some people around and stare in awe at the pets that look like He-Man's battle cat.

Arkansas Football, it's the players running through the "A", hog hats, it's more than 70,000 fans calling WOO PIG SOOIE. Arkansas football, it's the state of Arkansas banding together behind one team and a mascot like no other. Those select few who put on the jersey are chosen, they wear the colors, they pay the price, and they succeed. They are exceptional, they are Razorbacks. Together we stand as tall as the tower of Old Main. Our memories are etched in stone like names on Senior Walks and our blood flows Razorback Red. For 100 years, we've been Hog Wild and today we continue the tradition. We are Arkansas Razorbacks!

We've got Coach Lee and he is going pull a rabbit out of the hat against Bama. It's got to be worth at least 10 points having him on the side lines and another 7 for our HC. :)

I don't think K State could stop DMac or Felix

But Auburn and Alabama aren't all that this year - they are beatable.
Whether we win or not remains to be seen.

We gave up 360 yards to Troy. We also fumbled the balls 6 times and I think loss 2 of those. The Troy post game stated they were impressed with Arkansas and called our passing game sufficient, just enough to make our powerful running game effective. Those were their words.   I still don't think it will be sufficient against the upper SEC teams.

Felix Jones had 287 all purpose yards
DMAC had 200 all purpose yards

I thought Troy would beat us.  Nah, I'm probably thinking of someone else who said that.  Couldn't have been you.

Auburn's rushing attack has looked a little less than stellar.  Cox reminds me of a prepubescent teenager getting caught by his mother with his hands down his pants once a defender gets 6 inches of penetration beyond the LOS.  At least we have offensive weapons.  Auburn does not.

Maybe I'll predict an Arkansas loss every game.  At least when I'm right once or twice I can say, "I told you so."

Alabama has no shot of stopping our offense.  Our secondary probably won't slow their passing attack.  You can say bama will put 8 guys in the box, but who are these guys.  I played against bigger and faster guys in highschool than bama will be lining up around the line of scrimmage on Sept. 15th.  The game will come down to mistakes.  We can't drop punts.  We can't attempt to field punts inside the 10 yd line.  We must fair catch punts that stay in the air longer than the Goodyear blimp.  If we don't make stupid mistakes, we win this game easily dominating both lines of scrimmage.

If you hold your line, you will be able to say, "I told you so."  It just won't be against Alabama.

VandyHog

I've only seen the stats from the Alabama game, but it looks like Wilson did not complete any touchdown passes (not that they were needed). They head up to Nashville to play Vandy next week which should be a better test.

In a word...yes.

Bacon out...

Thank you for bringing common sense to this thread.

If Michigan can lose to a AA team, then of course Arkansas can win at Alabama.

turbo2000

I fully expect a win from Nutt & staff at Bama. Nutt has players who want to be Razorbacks and who love that helmet. He got rid of the high school coach. He has in place a NFL all pro caliber coach. He beat Alabama last year. And anything less than a win at Bama this year is unacceptable. Just because Broyles may not expect much from Nutt does not mean we fans should let him off the hook also. If we expect excellence from Nutt and he cannot deliver then we can demand change.
