How long has he been there?  I think most coaches have a four year honeymoon period to rotate in their own players.  I can't remember the date they transitioned from Sherrill.  Also, did he come into a situation where MSU was going on probation?  It could buy a new coach an extra year or two...not that we know anything about that.
