Wishing Bobby Petrino and Louisville nothing but the best this season

To some degree I believe the U of A owes Petrino a debt of gratitude for what he was able to accomplish here in a short period of time. Yes he is a jerk but so is Nick Saban, Petrino just hasn't won a national title yet. If he was still here we might've won a national title by now. Don't get it twisted though, I'm not saying he shouldn't have been fired. That's what he gets for being so careless, and frankly, so cheap. Basically he was just trying to pay off his jump off, which I understand, but you can't make the university foot the bill for that, you gotta reach into your own funds. Back to Petrino, because he brought us back to prominence he put us in a position to go after Bielema (if you believe in him- I'm still on the fence). The whole fiasco also brought attention to Jeff Long, and by extension the football program as well. So while I don't actively root for Louisville, I have no ill will towards Petrino, and neither should any Hog fan IMO. I wouldn't even be made if their QB won the Heisman, and unless they play us somewhere down the road, I'll be happy for them. On top of all that they're underdogs anyway, and I like to root for the little guy too.

But yeah. He did some good things for Arkansas. And probably helped us inch toward where we are today. I don't know. He's probably also responsible for the major dip we took with John L and those years. And made it infinitely harder for Bielema to rebuild the program.

Lets be honest.  Arkansas football has been in a tail spin ever since Frank fired Ken Hatfield!  There have been moments over the past 25 years but never anything sustained, nothing long term, nothing program building!  Frank thought he could do anything he wanted and when he fired Hatfield and then later Nolan, he screwed the pooch!  Now we all suffer all suffer because the great Frank Broyles, and he was a great coach,  couldn't get out of his own way long enough to let the other coaches have their own success!  Hatfields last 2 years at Arkansas 88-89 were the best back to back years in Arkansas football since the 1960's!  And Frank thought the answer was to FIRE the man who had put us back on the college football map!   We've been screwed ever since!  I hope Bielema is the Answer, and I hope they leave him alone long enough to actually build something worth having!

It's not like BP was left a bed of roses when he took the UL job the second time. Look at them today as they are completely rolling over a top 5 team.

Sure, we've improved our social media street cred and graduation rates under BB, but that's not the reason the UA fields a football team. It's to help market the school, make money, and win games. I still remain doubtful we'll ever reach the heights we were at just a few short years ago.
