I actually bet clemson yesterday like an idiot. I thought they would come out on fire after their poor performance week 1.  No clue what is going on over there.
Let's make some waves.

They have played better competition to start out the season than others have (namely Alabama, FSU, Michigan, and Ohio State).

I posted the following in a rankings thread over on MMQB.

The AP Voters are being short-sighted.

Clemson has won a true road game in a hostile environment against a SEC team, a SEC team that is better than people thought that SEC team would be going into the season.  Clemson's other opponent, Troy, may win their conference (Troy is good enough to win the Sun Belt).

Alabama's wins are against a vastly overrated Southern Cal, and while it was technically regarded as a neutral site game, it was essentially a home game for Alabama because of all of the Alabama fans who travelled to Arlington.  Alabama's other opponent, Western Kentucky, is not good.

Florida State's wins are against a SEC team at what was technically regarded as a neutral site game, but it was essentially a home game for Florida State because of all of the Florida State fans who were able to get ticket(s) to the game and who were able to travel the short distance to Orlando.  Also in that game, Florida State got down 22 points against a SEC team that basically only has a QB.  Clemson hasn't been behind by 22 points in any of their games.  Florida State's other opponent, Charleston Southern, suspended 14 players for their game with FSU, and suspended 16 others their first game, so those 16 were playing in their first game of the season against FSU, and 14 others were not even available.  FSU was essentially playing against a hollowed out "empty shell" team.

Michigan and Ohio State hasn't played any really quality competition, and both of them have played both of their games at home.

The bottom line is Clemson has played better competition than Alabama, FSU, Michigan, and Ohio State, and Clemson has won a true road game, which those other 4 teams have not.

Alabama opened up with USC.  I'm betting they will be better than auburn this year.  We don't know anything about Clemson until they face Louisville probably.
If a man speaks and no woman is around to hear him, is he still wrong?

Florida st played OLE Miss which is far better than Auburn . Bama played USC  who is far better than anyone Clemson has played . Auburn's team has no legit QB  and still could have won . just clueless

Clemson is basically a push button type of team.  When they get all of the buttons pushed, it is going to be devastating for their opponents (i.e., the 58-0 they did against Miami (FL) last season).

Replacing 7 starters on Defense is not an easy task, and despite returning a lot of offensive starters, Clemson is still a very young team.

so are most good teams . they all tend to lose their best every year . goes with the territory . they better hope that Qb doesn't get hurt or they go back to average at best

Auburn has a better Defensive Line than Ole Miss.  Really the only area where Ole Miss is better than Auburn is at the QB position.

Auburn may have a Top 5 in the nation Defensive Line.

ole miss will beat Auburn easily again this year . Ole miss has a good offense and decent defense. they just let the FSU game get away and couldn't find the right adjustments to make

They seem to be sleep walking so far.
If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

Clemson has won 39 straight games vs. unranked opponents, second only to Alabama.

Clemsoning? Really?

Troy BTW is not a bad team, and has given major conference teams fits over the years -- as have unranked teams like ULM, Akron, Appalachian State and others ....

Their issues so far this season can be attributed to 3 aspects.

1.  Have not been sharp all the time on Offense.  There has been some timing issues between Watson and the WRs.

2.  They have not had their most experienced and best edge rusher Defensive End, Austin Bryant, who is out with a foot injury.  Them not having Bryant is like for example if we did not have Deatrich Wise, Jr. (the effect it would have on us if we did not have Wise playing).

3.  Three new starters in their Secondary, with 2 of those 3 being not very experienced, and those 2 have made some coverage errors.  All three of the new Secondary starters (particularly the 2 of them that have very low experience) should improve with more game experience.

Troy may be winning the Sun Belt this season.  They are good enough on Offense and on Defense (particularly on Defense) to win the Sun Belt.

The National Media seems to be flipping out about the low margin of victory for Clemson against Troy.  What needs to be remembered is that if McCloud doesn't drop the ball before he crosses the goal line on the Punt return, that is another 7 points for Clemson.  Also, Troy got 2 TDs late in the game after the game was already decided.  If Troy gets only 1 of those TDs, and if Clemson has the other 7 points that did not happen because of McCloud making a bad decision, that game ends up at 37-17.

Another thing the National Media needs to remember is that Troy racked up over 700 total yards of offense (706 yards) in their first game.  Clemson held Troy to 386 total yards of offense (320 yards below what Troy got in their first game).

When all is said-and-done at the end of the regular season, Clemson's wins over Auburn and Troy will probably be viewed as good wins for Clemson.
