QuoteMoglia suffers from a "bronchial asthmatic reaction to allergies" according to the report, but is not in immediate danger. The 68-year-old expects to return in time for 2018, with offensive coordinator Jamey Chadwell serving as interim coach this season. Moglia missed Sun Belt Conference Media Day earlier this week following a medical procedure to remove a precancerous nodule from his throat.

Moglia is 51-15 in five seasons with the Chanticleers, following a successful career in the business world. He was CEO of investment firm TD Ameritrade before returning to football.

Coastal Carolina joins the Sun Belt Conference this season after moving up from the FCS level.

Sports Illustrated: 3 SEC assistants among 'hottest names' for a head coaching gig

Quote"Interim" tag on Ole Miss coach Matt Luke should serve as a reminder that coaching jobs change, and sometimes they change both unexpectedly yet rapidly.

Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman released his list of the 30 hottest names for the upcoming coaching carousel. There were no SEC coaches on that list, but there were a few former SEC assistants turned head coaches, such as former LSU assistant Frank Wilson (UTSA) and former UGA offensive coordinator Mike Bobo (Colorado State).

Feldman identified the following SEC assistant coaches on his list:

2. Dave Aranda, LSU defensive coordinator: He's the highest-paid coordinator in our nation.

8. Jeremy Pruitt, Alabama defensive coordinator: Like Kirby Smart before him, Pruitt is looking to leverage coaching defense under Nick Saban into his first head coaching gig.

12. Matt Canada, LSU offensive coordinator: He has yet to coach a game as the LSU offensive coordinator, and Feldman already has him as a man that Ed Orgeron could lose from his staff in the next coaching carousel. Feldman calls Canada one of the most innovative minds in football, but also notes: "Canada, like his defensive counterpart Aranda, is making so much at LSU that he might not be an option for most non–Power 5 programs."

Sean Kugler's out as UTEP's head coach

1st FBS head coach to leave his job this regular season

The school called it a mutual decision

QuoteMiners are 0-5 this season after losing to Army on Saturday.

Kugler went 2-10 in 2013, his first season, before lodging a nice improvement in Year 2, when UTEP won seven games and played in the New Mexico Bowl. The Miners cratered after that, and Kugler's record sat at 18-31 over his first four years.

UTEP is an exceptionally hard place to win.

From 2010-12, Kugler was the Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive line coach. He's been coaching O-linemen for a long time.

USA Today's Dan Wolken reveals possible 'intriguing name' on coaching carousel, says 3 SEC teams should take a look

QuoteUSA Today analyst dropped UAB coach Bill Clark's name on Twitter as someone who could be a possibility if/when three SEC programs search for new leaders. Wolken mentioned Tennessee, Arkansas and Ole Miss as schools that "have to at least take a look" at Clark if the schools move past their current respective coaches after this season.

Georgia Southern fires football coach Tyson Summers, reports say

QuoteGeorgia Southern has fired football coach Tyson Summers after an 0-6 start to the season, according to multiple reports Sunday.

Summers, 37, was 5-13 as Georgia Southern's head coach. The Eagles lost 55-20 to previously winless UMass on Saturday.

Summers coached at UAB for four seasons, including a stint as co-special teams coordinator in 2011. He spent three seasons as Central Florida's defensive coordinator, then one year (2015) at Colorado State before taking over at Georgia Southern.

Summers scrapped the Eagles' famed triple-option offense in favor of a shotgun-based read-option attack in 2015...

Which SEC football coach has the largest contract buyout?  https://trib.al/SGZ4bn8

QuoteUSA Today released its annual college football coaches salary database on Wednesday, a list that always includes a number of fascinating facts and figures.

For the first time, the database includes buyout figures for nearly every coach. These buyout figures are what the school would owe the coach as of Dec. 1, 2017, if he were to be "fired without cause," that is, for not winning enough.

Here's what Florida should look for in its next football coach

QuoteGAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Jim McElwain who appeared at the postgame news conference Saturday night in Jacksonville, Fla., was a different guy.

At ease, calm, not combative in the face of tough questions or a tough situation. He took in everything, gave engaging responses, seemed sincere.

If only he had been that guy the whole time...

Report: Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen 'Not eyeing other opportunities'
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

STARKVILLE — It's almost November and when it comes to Mississippi State football, there are two traditions that can be expected to occur this time of year with almost as much consistency as Thanksgiving.

The Bulldogs will clinch a bowl game appearance, which happened on Saturday.

And Dan Mullen's name will be attached to a job opening, which happened on Sunday.

QuoteFlorida fired Jim McElwain Sunday afternoon, and by doing so, prompted many fans and media outlets to speculate that dominoes will continue to fall all the way over to Starkville.

To be clear, Mullen had not been contacted by Florida as of late Sunday afternoon, the Clarion Ledger learned, but those who are connecting the 46-year-old to the Gators are doing so with sound rationale.

Mullen was Florida's offensive coordinator from 2005-08 before he took the MSU head coaching job. Mullen's old boss Scott Stricklin is now Florida's athletic director after holding the same position at MSU. While some sources have said Stricklin would be reluctant to pluck an MSU person from his alma mater, consider: 1.) His own job depends on this hire and 2.) The decision isn't solely his to make.

Then there is this: Florida is an elite job, one that has won national and SEC championships under multiple coaches in the recent past.

There aren't a lot of those.

Get a dog? Lots of bark, lack of bite in SEC West as Sumlin era winds down at Texas A&M: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/aggies/article/Solid-start-not-enough-as-Texas-A-M-falls-to-12332425.php ... via @HoustonChron

QuoteCOLLEGE STATION - Kevin Sumlin said prior to ever coaching a game at Texas A&M that if anyone was scared of competing in the SEC West, it was time to "get a dog."

Ultimately, his program's lack of bite to go with his early bark - especially in the dog-eat-dog world of the SEC West -

Louisville coach Bobby Petrino responds to Tennessee coaching rumors

Quote"I've just got to focus on what I can do," Petrino told Jake Lourim of The Courier Journal. "(Director of football operations Andy Wagner) was asking me something earlier today, I said, 'I don't even know about that.' I don't get up in the morning, turn on talk radio. I just come here, and we get in that room and we try to get a first down. Try to find out what's going on on third-and-1."

Petrino, who previously coached at Arkansas, was named one of 15 top candidates at Tennessee by USA Today this week.

His high-powered offense could be attractive to SEC East teams like Tennessee and Florida that have struggled to put up points in recent years, particularly in big games.

At Louisville, Petrino is the only stable part of that athletic department.

ESPN's Booger McFarland says Gus Malzahn has a desire to be in Arkansas  #WPS http://sec.news/2zHOcfR

Gus Malzahn to Arkansas? Seriously? How about a new deal at Auburn?

QuoteScarblog: As Auburn decision-makers wrestle with whether to keep basketball coach Bruce Pearl and whom to hire to succeed Jay Jacobs as athletics director, another issue should be on their radar in the glow of the football team's 40-17 destruction of Georgia.

What are they going to do about Gus Malzahn's contract?

That subject has escaped public notice as the Tigers have moved squarely into the national championship discussion at No. 6 in the latest playoff committee rankings, but the industry is aware of one key fact about Malzahn's deal.

It has only three years remaining after this season. The last adjustment, which he signed in April of 2016, was a one-year extension through Dec. 31, 2020. He's making $4.725 million a year through the remainder of the deal.

That means Malzahn is under contract for three more seasons in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

...Long gone, Bielema appears to be on his way out as well.

Would Arkansas target Malzahn if/when it does fire Bielema? It would make sense. If offered the job, would Malzahn leave Auburn to restart his clock at a familiar place in the same division?

Seriously?
