Vicious rumor that Brandon Martin and Devwah Whaley were wrestling around and Whaley somehow tore a braid from Martin's head, which caused Martin to then punch Whaley and possibly break his jaw.  IF this is true, this is definitely not a good look, 2 days from a must-win game so early in the season.  Trey Schaap confirmed the scuffle on The Buzz this morning (103.7 in Little Rock), but was unsure as to whether Whaley's jaw was broken or not.  Anyone else hear of this today?

That's the point.   For now, its pretty well in the range of unsubstantiated rumor; even the fight itself is not well sourced--  though being generous and crediting the two people who have reported the altercation as being accurate in as much as it happened--  is not exactly the sort of vetting you expect of a major news story of any stripe.

Worse still, we have additional 'media members' piggybacking off of this, and it not being independently confirmed,  either in scope or impact.

Even being generous, this is an example of how bad Arkansas sports media really is.

I'm all for dogging Arkansas sports media but all they confirmed was that something happened between Whaley and Martin. Speculation after that is on the fanbase

The altercation is much farther along in being confirmed than the broken jaw;  at least there, we now seem to have two different reports that aren't repetitions of each other,  that a fight occurred.

Its a process; a good rule of thumb with any 'breaking news' story is that until there are three independent sources,  its a good thing to temper the expectation of it being gospel.
