retiring effective immediately according to multiple reports
People ask me what I do in winter when there is no baseball.  I will tell you what I do. I stare out the window, and I wait for spring.

WilsonHog

Yep, effective immediately per Bruce Feldman.

I bet Sooner fans are pissed. Smells like a set-up to get the guy in that Stoops and the AD want without benefit of the normal coaching search that would come after the season.

Joe Mixon situation finally coming to roost?

RazorPiggie

I think something is going to go down at OU soon! You don't leave during the summer.

Something smells fishy to me.

HoggieStyle

Is Stoops a habitual Harley rider?

Wildhog

WOW.

They should hire Bert.

Venables as interim?

Lincoln Riley is already being reported as the new head coach.  Doubt Venables would leave Clemson for an interim position.

Will be interesting to see if Riley is ready.  He's only 33-years-old.

Think more than likely to get Riley where they wanted him.  Doubt Sooner fans would be happy with that hire at the end of a coaching search.  Do it in the summer where there is no other choice and he has a season to prove himself to the fanbase.

That might keep him out of coaching for 50 years. Fifty!

I just heard from an OU guy, via sports radio, that it could be health related. But this tweet says otherwise. Guess we'll see.

The question is how will this help us with recruiting for this season.

Could be that he just wants to retire from head coaching and help his brother in Kentucky.

A job opening?!

Where?!

Currently has booster cables hooked up to his balls, trying to get his piss hot.

In with OU to the SEC rumor before it actually comes out.  ;)

Very unexpected but certainly looks orchestrated.  Saddling a program with an interm head coach in the Spring isn't a recipe for success

311Hog

is this retiring like how Urban Meyer retired from Florida?

Just naming your OC as full-time HC the same day your legendary coach retires?  I'd be burning down the OU message boards if I were a Sooners fan.

I do have a pair of OU gym shorts that I haven't burned.  My sick grandmother got them for me not long before she died.  She thought they were UA shorts and I didn't have the heart to tell her.

That's who Stoops wanted to replace him. That's why he resigned in June. Program has no other choice.

BS they have no other choice.  Bob Stoops isn't the AD.

I mean, naming him the interim I get.  IF they sign him to a long term contract, I won't understand that.

Barry Switzer was 35 when Chuck Fairbanks left OU for the Patriots.

I'm a grad student at OU currently. Most of the Sooner fans think Lincoln Riley is the second coming because they've put up some good offensive numbers (against Big 12 defenses...) since he got to town. I imagine he'll get a honeymoon period from them unless they have a Smiley-esque season this year.

Yeah, they were the same age but wasn't Frank Broyles already a head coach when Arkansas offered him the job??

Heck you and other irrational fans would burn it down if they named a ten time NC and a five time super bowl winning coach as the new coach......................................
If I'm going to cheer players and coaches in victory, I damn sure ought to be man enough to stand with them in defeat.
